  1. Well, he almost got it right. I'll take a Saiga over a WASR any day as I have owed both. After conversion the parts commonality and availability is very good. Any prepper worth his salt has a stash of spare parts already. People who would recoil at the sight of an AK also recoil at the sight of an AR, their scared of guns. Professional shooters know the AK for what it is, a reliable 2-3MOA weapon that they will use themselves if they need to. Just like some of our guys do today. As a prepper myself, I follow the maxim "prepare for the worst, hope for the best"
  2. Welcome to the CCW club. If my child was getting shot at there is no law that will stop me from protecting them. That is a right that I was born with and is not one that any person or any organization can grant or revoke. Seems like simple common sense to me.
  3. I put a Magpul stock with a CAA tube adapter on my S12 just a temporary measure, and found that it gave me a good check weld and the adjustments let me set it up the LOP like I wanted. I have a tendency to crawl up the stock a bit and be nose to receiver. While I'm not one to put AR stuff on AK's I found it to work on the S12. The TAPCO I put on there at first was a POS. Magpul makes quality kit, I could see that stock on my .308 DMR build.
  4. In various training classes I've done it's been shown over and over that the average guy can cover 20+ feet in a couple of seconds. With the adrenaline dump the bad guy is going to get from committing a crime you cannot hesitate at across the room distances. He had his gun with him and the guy took it away and shot him with it=FAIL.
  5. Hey, I call 'em as I see 'em. I was CRO on a shotgun stage at the SMM3G this year. I saw several shotguns barf on my stage, including two Saiga12s. In speaking to other ROs, those Saiga12s that did not barf on my stages did so on at least one other stage. Now these may have been highly tuned match guns (mag well, big mags, light ammo, whatever), but these were seasoned competitors who obviously thought they had rung out their guns pretty well... evidently not well enough. I also know a handful of guys who run Saiga 12s in our local 3-gun matches (for which I am a match director). Of the tw
  6. I've tried multiple styles and settled on this one. http://www.vikingtactics.com/pop1b.html The reason is that I can extend it to use as a shooting platform, or if I need to use my hands I can, with a quick pull of the tab, pull the weapon in tight. The biggest advantage of a single point is in transitions to your weak side. But it's not worth the ball banging you'll get if you have to run with it, or if you do a transition to your sidearm while on the move.
  7. Well, I do 3gun, as many here do, and I have not witnessed "vast majority failure". So I'm going to have to call bullshit, with all due respect. Perhaps it's operator failure? My focus is on gunfighting more than gaming and if the S12 failed repeatedly on me the only time "selective memory" would come into play is when I sold it and forgot about it. I just did a match in Michigan and there were two S12's in my squad. Both ran perfect and kicked everyone's else ass. They cycle faster. have mild recoil, and on the blind stage where you had to breach a door and there were 18 targets
  8. The OP is discussing ultraviolet lights as a more suitable option than "230 lumens" of white light for a variety of reasons. Yes, my reading comprehension is still intact Nalioth. You must have missed the part of my post that said I have a 4 lumen mode which makes my reply more sensible than just the 230 lumen part you quoted. The point he was making as I understand it, was with the UV you did not disrupt your night vision. I responded that with a low setting on a LED you can accomplish the same thing, while not giving up the ability to use a high power white light as a fo
  9. Sounds interesting. I have a Fenix TA20 mounted on my goto. One of the reasons I picked it over another Surefire is that it has multiple modes. You can turn it down as low as 4 lumens so you don't destroy your night vision while reading maps or navigating a trail. However, with a simple twist of the bezel you have a 230 lumen strope that is VERY blinding.
  10. Obviously the bashers are just not that knowledgeable. Go to any competition or tactical training class and see how well pump shotguns fair against S12's. It's not even close, you can deliver more rounds, more accurately. If you have to reload the performance gap is even more obvious. Only a fool would take a 6 shot pump gun over a 8 shot semiauto in a gunfight. The better autoloaders out there are fine weapons. However, reloading is still a weak point and my S12 has a simple, robust action as opposed to some that have o-rings, or complicated mechanisms. Reliability
  11. That sucks, hopefully you'll fully recover soon.
  12. I follow a don't ask, don't tell policy. I make sure my gun is legal and don't try to explain anything to people who just don't know or understand. If they allow full auto, then they sure don't need anything from you concerning your weapon which does not require any documentation. Again, don't try to explain anything. They may, just out of ignorance and wanting to cover their ass, say you can't shoot it there.
  13. Just received mine. Nice looking piece, instructions look straight forward. I'll add my field report when I get it installed and tested. I know at least one guy who's waiting to see how mine works before he takes the plunge.
  14. What was different between the instructions and what Jack told you? From what I know it's a matter of scribing the holes from the magwell and then punching/drilling operation. ?? I already have an extended mag release, can't wait to pair it up with the magwell.
  15. Great to hear....just got the shipping notice on mine. I have been waiting for JT's to become more vetted. I think the jury is in on this mod. It works.
  16. The stock X39 with 16" barrel weighs about 7.5lbs IIRC. I just weighed mine (converted) with an ACE ultra light stock, Ultimak tube rail, Houge grip, Fast Fire, Fenix TA20/LaRue mount. and it came in at 7lbs. 15oz. It was weighed on a percision scale that measures to 1/8oz.
  17. That cracks me up. This is a 5 year old picture of a S12 and it has a magwell, extended safety & mag release. The same shit we are putting on our guns now!
  18. Haven't got to the post office yet, will on Friday. I'll get the shipping quote to you then.
