  1. Thanks all. I will go test fire it this afternoon if the weather holds. Right now it is cool with mild sun burning through the marine cloud haze. Not sure what it is doing in the mountains where the range is yet. I figure I will go and see if the sights are set OK, the test target looked good but you never know. Will take a few other mags with me too to test compatibility. Hope to have a range report soon. BTW, I no longer post photos, so don't ask.
  2. By wobbly I mean that is does not screw on tight and has a very mild jiggle. I know that bullets hitting a brake are B-A-D, had a badly mounted AMD-65 brake on my AMD-65 build that I had to return to the smith for correction as they the last guy did a piss poor job of it. It is a little slop but not sure if it will cause the path of the projectile into coincidence with the bullet tunnel. Guess I can push a cleaning rod rod down the bore and see. Are the openings in the muzzle brake over sized compared to the bore?
  3. I shoot both. I tend to shoot steel trough comblock stuff but have been know to put Wolf through my ARs and handguns. Never had a failure. Handguns usually get WWB or other brass too as I reload a lot. With a shooting volume of 30K+ handgun rounds a year I have to reload. BTW, the S&B Range Safe stuff with the brass washed steel case did accidentally wind up in my brass a while ago, and it reloads fine too, using a Dillon 500 and Lee dyes. I am weeding it out with a magnet now but I did a couple of hundred before I realized it was mixed in my brass. Just FYI for those interested. I
  4. So I picked up a new Arsenal Saiga SGL-21 yesterday afternoon. Do they qualify for this area of the forum? I know that the original sporting guns and conversions used to but now sure about the new Arsenal imported stuff. Anyway, looks like a well built gun, only came with a 5 round magazine but that is OK, I have tons of others. Right now am using a USPALM mag as those have been very satisfactory for me. I have not fired it yet and I have one concern, the muzzle brake is a bit wobbly even screwed all the way down. Is this a problem I should take up with the manufacturer or is this normal?
  5. That's right, Saigas only have 15 parts don't they. I keep forgetting, keep thinking regular AK. But adding pistol grip increase part count, hmm. Ah, US made mags won't hurt if I can find reliable ones. Will see, still have to get the gun first. AM only in the planning stages right now. I am thinking of OD green as far as the furniture goes, already have too many coyote tan and black rifles. It will be a fun project for the dank and dark winter months.
  6. Thanks. Yeah, I figured on the bullet guide. Will have to go through the videos and FAQs again to refresh my memory. Probably have to get a new safety too, or get my neighbor to weld up the one on the gun to make it safe. Luckily I have one conversion under the belt already.
  7. So I have been gone a while. I am thinking of buying and converting a Saiga 7.62x39 carbine which is for sale NIB for about $400 locally. I did a conversion on a Saiga .308 a couple of years ago and that was pretty easy. My main question is are there any new things to worry about with a 7.62x39 rifle? Do I have to do feed ramps (remember seeing something about that long ago) ? Does anyone have any experience with the polymer magazines offered for sale at Centerfire Systems and are they compliant? I already know about 922r and figure to change out butt stock, trigger group and add pistol gri
  8. As Norseman said. Also Berdan cases have an integral anvil built into the case primer pocket, you would need to machine that down flat. Boxer cases do not have this feature and the primer contains the anvil. Further the size of the Berdan case primer pocket is bigger then boxer primers (probably a safeguard against stupidity) so the primer would fall out even if you did all the preceeding stuff, would need to crimp[ed in or something. I looked into the possibility of reloading Berdan primed military 308 a few years ago, hated to waste good brass, but found the technical challenges to expensiv
  9. Media reported another AK used in a shooting in Miami last night. Here is the story. "MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Miami police issued a plea for information Saturday after at least one person with an assault rifle opened fire on a crowd of people on a streetcorner Friday night, killing two teens and wounding seven other people. Miami police cordon off the area where a crowd of people was fired upon Friday night. Miami police cordon off the area where a crowd of people was fired upon Friday night. "We need the community to come together, someone come forward and give us a tip,"
  10. Never had any problem with Wolf ammo myself. Members at my rifle range go through tons of it every year and that is in a heavily wooded forest area. I mainly stock pile it as SHTF supplies for my AKs and SKS. To each his own I guess.
  11. So what? That is what should have been done all along. Physical coercion just leads to bad intelligence data. People will lie and make anything up rather then get tortured some more. Besides, it takes away the moral high ground and invites reprisals on your own people. Justice should not have double standards.
  12. Got the catalog yesterday. For those who shoot a PSL, the have 149 gr 7.62x54 for ~ $170/880 rounds (two sealed cans). It is supposedly 1980's Bulgarian stuff. Don't know how good it is but just in case anyone is interested.
  13. Hell yes you can trust a XD!!! I got several. Take care of it and it wil take care of you. Went 3000 rounds (yes 3K rounds) in one weekend training session without a hiccup. Ergonomics are great and it points very naturally. Accuracy is better then any Block (read Glock) I ever ran into and unlike a Block (read Glock) you can shoot lead bullets without worries (Glock polygonal barrels are susceptible to major fouling with unjacketed rounds and can cause pressure problems and even failure if you use them). Even better, no slide bite with a XD, can't say the samefor Block (read Glock). Also Gl
  14. Thanks guys, especially those that PMed me. I will go with the concensus here and keep everything, just will be locked tight. I am not having any "bad" thoughts of doing away with myself, just lost the desire to shoot right now. I appreciate the concern some of you have voiced. I guess all of you are right, if I sell it all off I will regret it later as I am sure some (if not all) of it will be irreplaceable. I have been collecting for the better part of a decade now and the last year or so weeded out a lot of stuff to get hard to get and soon to be banned stuff. The worst that will happen
  15. Ever since my friend died by her own hands I have not gone shooting. Something is gone. I just do not feel like shooting anymore. I go out of my way to make excuses to avoid the range. I already sold several guns that we used together when I was training her, but now I am thinking of giving up the whole thing. The current political situation does not help. I figure everything I own will be illegal soon anyway. Should I just hang tough or should I let it all go? My heart just does not seem to be in it anymore.
  16. I think you are thinking of insulin. Most modern drugs are now using genetically modified yeast cultures. Even insulin is made that way now, Humulin is human insulin grown by genetic engineered micro organisms. The pig based stuff is still made for those with allergies only.
  17. Kinda reminds me of the US gov't in the 1800's giving smallpox-infected blankets to the native American indians. Not a new idea. During the middle ages they would toss sick and dead into enemy strongholds to spread disease. Probably goes further then that. Instead of rocks put bodies into catapults. Instant germ warfare. It also had a great psych-war effect.
  18. You sure you're not thinking about hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS)? I think it (and the plague) are two different kinds of oranges. Actually plague does exist in the south west US. I lived in NM for a while and there were a few cases each year. It is easily treated with antibiotics. Yes, Hanta virus is a different thing, a virus. Both occur in the south west but Hanta has been found even further up north up into New England states. Neither is a fun thing, but there is a cure for the plague, namely anti-biotics. Treatment is usually pretty aggressive. I don't think there is a
  19. It really helps with reloads. I usually get a Smith & Alexander for my 1911s.
  20. Under what conditions (range, stance) were those targets shot? Just curious. The worst things about Glocks is the bad ergonomics leading to slide bite. Or maybe the fact that they are Glocks.
  21. The plague occurs naturally everywhere there are rodents. You are a doctor, you should know It even occurs in the south west regions of the US. I know, I lived there for a few years. There are better biowar weapons available in that region. Plague is very treatable with modern antibiotics. In an agricultural area like that I would go for something else.
  22. Oh well, I was going to suggest a CZ-527 carbine in 7.62x39. As far as I know it is the only bolt gun in that caliber and it is a nice handy brush gun. I got one in my safe, Christmas present to myself. I was going to suggest staying away from the VZ-58 due to cost of extra mags and lack of replacement parts on the market but you jumped the gun. By all means enjoy.
  23. $1000 would buy a lot of survival supplies but then you would be missing your #1 tool. I know that a WASR-10 sold at a gun show here for $800 in December . I was there talking to the table owner when someone bought it.
  24. WOW!! Talk about BOHICA. Last Saiga-308 I saw was going for $500-600 range. I got my 16" for $340 or so. Glad I got one early.
