  1. probably not, the 74 is a different caliber than the 47. I would expect the mag wells to be different dimensions, and the followers are probably a bit different.
  2. If you look like you know whats going on and don't act suspicious you can get away with lots of shit. Like moving the cunstruction barricades during the middle of the day to drive through a construction site because you don't want to take the 20 mile detour! Or just grab a clipboard and walk like you have somewhere you need to be and your late, and you can get into places you otherwise shouldn't. But seriously, don't you guys think the chineese could just as eaisily find pics on the web?
  3. I used the Arsenal US made Ak-47 piston from K-var in both of the rifles i did. the AK-47 piston is 1/2 inch or so longer than the stock one, but i have noticed no difference in function. I think the Saiga uses an AK74 piston
  4. 922r compliance, that way along with the G2, i can use any stock, handguard, pg combo i feel like. also works good if you want to do just a hicap mod and not the whole conversion. us piston + 3 part magazine = 922r satisfaction. Of course nowadays you could just use a tapco handuard, helluva lot easier, and looks pretty slick to boot!
  5. I've done this on 2 saigas, and it's pretty straight forward. I drilled the dimples out, removed the old gas piston, put in the new one, and then i drilled through the piston and slightly enlarged the holes in the carrier, and used a piece of steel rod to secure the piston. I made the holes in the carrier wider so i could "mash" the steel rod smooth with the carrier so it cant fall out.
  6. If you are doing a conversion, drill out the old pins, and drift them out of the receiver. Use the FCG retaining plate (available at blackjack buffers among other places) to hold the new pins in place, it works better than reusing the spring, and then just plug the receiver holes with nylon or steel hole plugs.
  7. If the Rib Mountain/Wausau WI dunhams had an S-12 and i had the cash, I wouldn't be here typing this.
  8. Any idea how much the Bars 4-1 in 7.62 x 39 would cost? I'm the only one who seems to want a bolt action in that caliber.
  9. Yep, thats normal, did on my conversion, and my buddys conversion, his hangs up firmly, and he uses it as a psuedo BHO.
  10. I picked some up today at Gander on my way to the range, it's ok stuff. The brass was kindy spotty and felt grimy, I had one round wich must have had too much powder in it, as the recoils was very heavy, and the recoil rod and carrier failed to return from therear of the reciver to chamber the next round. Other than that, it was good stuff.
  11. I've got a 1943 No. 4 Mk.4, and really like it. I plan to leave the wood stock on, and get a no gunsmith scope mount. CadTeknic and a few othe companies make some good ones that dont ruin the rifles value. If you have the time. you could buy a replacement stock set, and cut it down, and have a real slick sporter with a wood stock.
  12. www.k-var.com, has everything you need, you will need to get a lower handguardretianer as well, and figure out a way to put it on, someone with more experienced than i in that department will be along shortly.
  13. Cool, some bolt action rifles chambered for 7.62x39, wonder how much they plan on charging.
  14. you have to make the feed ramp, which is quite possibly the hardest part of the conversion, almost as hard as pumping gas!
  15. I vote the next project has no handguards! it'll go from the rear sight block, tho the gasblockto the front site, all in the space of 3/4 of an inch! youll have to use the magazine as a vertical grip.
  16. Ha Ha I love it!, any pics with the stock unfolded? and did you buy the handguards or cut a set down?
  17. It really irks me when people convert a mag and sell it as an original saiga mag.
  18. thats missing alot of something. there should be a sling stud on the front, and alarge tab on the back with a captive nut in it.
  19. this should help you with the trigger binding in the hole http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=7802
  20. That is a slick looking gun, migh have to put that on my airsoft gun projects list.
  21. Ok, this is the internals of the gun, as if you have just fired a shot, and didn't let go of the trigger, the disconnector is grabing the hammer, and the hook isn't doing anything yet. here is a video of the proper function. we are assuming the shooter has just fired a shot, and didn't let go of the trigger, the disconnector is grabing the hammer, and the hook isn't doing anything yet. the first thing that will happen is that the shooter releases the trigger, this is when the disconnector lets go, and the hook grabs the hammer, the next step is the gun is fired. http://media.putfile.
  22. I knew I should have taken pics of this when it happened!! the disconnector grabs the hammer if you are still holding the trigger down after the next round has been chambered. this keeps the rifle from going full auto. as yuo release the trigger, the hammerslides out from under the disconnector, and is then grabbed by the trigger hook. That "tab" that hits the hole in the receiver is preventing the trigger from going all the way into the un fired position. this prevents the disconnector from releasing the hammer to get caught by the trigger hook. I'll see if i can make a video to show
