If you live in a no-high cap state, why are asking about using m-14 mags?

You can get the 8-rounders from http://www.fbmginc.com.

The carriers in them can be modified to allow for 10 rounds btw - do a search and you'll see how.

I was hoping to find a way that was cheaper than $35 per mag and more readily available. FBMG doesn't have any last I checked. Since I can get M-14 10 rounders for $9 each I thought I might be able to tinker a little and save some money and have a nice stock of mags. I tried to do the search and kept getting erros - I have it figured out now so I will read what is posted.

By the time you get done modifying the magazines or the mag well (or both), you will probably have more than $35 each (or $45 for whole mags) in the magazines in terms of parts and labor alone. There is also the "headache" factor to consider. Tromix played with the M14 mag idea, but he had to fit them individually and never got them to run reliably. About a year or more ago, I think that he said the customer cost to fit M14 mags would run around $65 - $70 each. BattleRifleG3 had been working an an adaptor to let you use "slightly" modified G3 mags and it would require significantly modifying your mag well area. I think the only one out there is the one he made for himself. Others have played with FAL mags and Galil ($$$) .308 mags with mixed results. I tried using a PE-57 mag, but that basic mag was $50 before I even started cutting and, after I got it to fit in the rifle, I never got it to feed correctly.

Having said all that, the FBMG mags are the way to go.

I decided to go this route with my S-308:

http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=13650

I already own two Red Jacket AKs and am quite sure I will be happy with their work. It's expensive but worth it to me since I intend to buy an M-14 this year and will enjoy the benefit of interchangeable magazines... steel magazines that come in a variety of capacities from 5 to 30 rounds.

I guess when my mags arrive from FBMG(not wanting a discussion on this)I'll stick with these in my S-308.My Vepr-308 was converted by Marc Krebs to use unmodified M14 mags.44mag.com has them $23.99 each or less when you buy 10+ free shipping over $100.00.I bought 5 mags and each functioned perfectly unlike the knock off mags. Good price for M14 mags!http://www.44mag.com/prodinfo.asp?number=CM20

http://www.44mag.com/products.asp?dept=1318 All M14 mags and parts link.

edit: I bought Springfield Armory mags for the $23.99 price now those are $44.00 each.

If you want some 10 rounder M-14 OEM Mags cheap ($9.97) check out:

I bought a bunch hoping I could adapt them to my Saiga 308. Still hoping someone has a brilliant idea for an adaptor.

If I wanted an AK that took M14 mags I would go for a converted rifle that took the mags unmolested.

I would only use real genuine verified Checkmate mags. There are too many out-of-spec fakes out there to fool with anything else.

The 'OEM' mags at CTD are probably not really OEM. Checkmate makes the mags for Springfield and I have never seen real genuine verified Checkmate mags sell for about $10.

Many guns that use an M14 mag have had problems with the FAKE after-market supposed OEM and supposed USGI mags. You are better off to pay more and make sure you get the real thing.

Many many many fine guns were turned into 'jam-o'matics' while using bogus mags. M14 mags are not like AK mags. AK mags are pretty much reliable no matter what the third world source. This is simply NOT the case with M14 mags. Get the real thing...or nothing.

Checkmate is the ONLY US manufacturer of M14 mags being sent to our fighting men in harm's way. And they have been for years.

This guy sells real genuine verified Checkmate mags.

Thanks Oswald2001 - I haven't seen these yet but they did get good reviews from one source. Since I don't have a M14 - hard for me to check them. I just am having a hard time paying $35 for mags - trying to figure something out. I can't imagine that cost more than a a couple of bucks for the Rusky's to squirt plastic into a mold and make them so it gauls me to give them that kind of profit. AKs are cheap right? I hate to spend half the cost of the gun for 4 stupid 10 round mags. Oh to be high cap ban free.

And I dont kniow when the last time you checked was, but we have the mags in stock.

Thanks PvtPyle. Still tying to find a solution to the spotty supply and high cost. As this is my SHTF weapon I would like to have a ready supply of replacements in all situations.

If you're defending yourself against zombies the cops aren't gonna give you a hard time about 20 round mags.
