I know a few of you have or have seen these, but I never got to even handle one. The thing is so compact, pretty neat. Another one to add to the peculiar/tactical/combat shotty collection. Trigger is a bit long and mushy though. Cant wait to shoot her tomorrow... Please excuse my toes.

Mossbergs rule the pumpgun world. I've never got my hands on one of those but I've owned my 500 since the early eighties I just love it. I was shooting in a trap league and owned two Rem 870s. I broke the ejector springs on both of them and decided to sell one of them in favor of a Mossberg. Nothing has ever broken on that gun after I couldn't even begin to guess how many rounds. I gave the other 870 to friend as a gift. Some friend. Anyway I bet you can smooth up that trigger and I have no doubt that it will never let you down. I couldn't say the same about a Remy. I don't know why cops use those things. What a waste of taxpayer money.

Yeah I own a couple other Mossie's, they are great. I have the Hs410, a 590 and a 595 and 695 as well. There is an article about Mossberg military shotguns in the Rifleman this month. The most widely issued shotguns in Afghanistan and Iraq are Mossberg's.

The Bullpup has always fascinated me and it is pretty handy in terms of size and balance, we'll see how she does.....

Well got out there yesterday afternoon, put about 40 rounds through her. The fitment and balance are very nice. I am a fairly tall guy, with long monkey arms and this gun is very comfortable for me. The LOP is about 15". I think this baby may be flashlight worthy.

I tried some mini shells in it, with moderate success, the tube will hold 14 of them, but I had some FTE's with them.

Recoil overall was far less punishing than on my 590 with the A2 stock setup. The stock sights on the handle had me hitting lower than point of aim, I was shooting at about 25 yards though, we'll have to see how she does at 35 to 50. I may just file down the front sight or mount a red dot. My only complaints would be the location of the slide release, which because of the receiver being encased in the buttstock is impossible to actuate from a shooting position, and the grip safety, which is a bit awkward. Its a shame Mossberg didnt do more with this, by addressing the aforementioned complaints. I am not sure if they just werent popular or what. It would have been neat to see a 9200 bullpup.

All in all, I think this is a fun and handy little 12 gauge, I am gonna get out to the real range today and give her hell...

Brg3, Whatever became of that "mannlicher" style full stocked (1100?) shotgun I think it was? Forgive me if I have this all wrong, but it was a very old traditional style stock fit to a modern full length shotty, I think. I thought it was pretty damn cool for some reason.

I'm a huge fan of Mossberg over Remington as well. I have a novel idea for a pumpgun bullpup, but it's nowhere near reality yet.

Mossberg Porn Time !

I also have a 500a but the pictures arn't as good as this one

The full length 1100 stock is still there, I'm not sure what I'll be doing with it in the future. I wasn't impressed with the shotgun but maybe that'll change as I learn how to take care of it better. I also don't think I'll be adorning that sasafrass furniture with a brass buttplate. I'll probably be making another stock on the same concept out of better quality wood.

Scoutjoe, very nice, is that the 590a1 or the standard?

Looks like I am gonna have to fork up some more porn, let me get some pics up

BRG3, I thought it was an 1100, definitely different, thought it was kind of neat looking. I like weird stuff.

OK I made it back out again with the Bullpup, the sights are definitely horrible, they are built into the handle, so the radius is very short. Hit better with both eyes open, and just pointing. I am going to get a HK claw mount and put a cheap red dot on, maybe just a Barska 42mm or something. This is a fun little gun, and I compared it to my 590 and its about 10" shorter, and the LOP is almost identical.

I could live without the grip safety and the slide release situation sucks, but this is no "tactical masterpiece". A neat and fun 12 gauge though, without a doubt. An optic will make it that much better. As for the long trigger pull, I honestly dont notice it much when I am shooting, its not a rifle so I'm not lining up and squeezing out that 100 yard bullseye (yeah right), so for what it is, I suppose it is adequate.

I'll get some Mossberg porn up soon.....

All right, here's my Mossberg collection

From top:

Model 695 slug gun According to ISAYERET, these are used by the IDF for remote bomb detonation.

Model 500 Bullpup

Model 590 with mesa tactical stock adapter and top rail, AR-15 A2 buttstock and Bushmaster flip ups.

Model 595 These were supposedly for police departments on a budget, and then I read elsewhere they were aimed at Australian PD"s, who had to comply with firearm restrictions.

Model HS 410 Home defense rig, el cheapo red dot, and convert-a-mount that I re-fit for the 410 receiver and of course el cheapo shell carrier------Thank you wal-mart. Home defense is a long shot around here, really it was just an excuse to set up and buy another gun.

Chris I was told that mine was the "mil-spec" version, but all the other research I've done into it says mine isn't the offical mil-spec since I have the ghost ring sights and not the barrel shroud.

Also it does not have 590A1 on the side of the reciever

I thought the official one had the sights but no guard with the speed feed, like yours. Hmmmmm..... In any event the A1's are marked as such. I think they've been issued in almost every configuration anyway. If you're in the NRA check out this month's "American Rifleman".

Its funny this new gunshop I have been going to (but no more) had been telling me that Mossbergs were junk because of the alloy receiver. He says "I've got a buddy who's an armorer over in Iraq...". When I went to pick up the Bullpup, some fat asshole was sittin in the shop, givin me a hard time about the gun "I hope you didnt pay more than $10 for that....Ha, Ha, Ha,...." Yeah, fuck you asshole. you dont know shit! :killer:

Gun assholes, they're everywhere.

The 4 round mag I only have one of that I swapped for the different photos. It is the correct mag for that version of the 595, which it came with . I have not found another 4 rounder ever, despite extensive searching. I also have a 2 round mag that came with the 695. They both work in the 695 but only the 4 round mag fits the 595. They are almost identical and everyone lists the 2 round mag as fitting the 595 and 695, but there is just a minor fitment issue, kinda strange.

"Model 595 These were supposedly for police departments on a budget, and then I read elsewhere they were aimed at Australian PD"s, who had to comply with firearm restrictions." I'll have to dig up the sources for the above statement but it would seem to make sense, a detachable 4 round mag with an 18" barrel isnt the norm for hunting.

I guess according to the blue book, all the 595's came with the 4 rounder, I thought the long barrel ones had the 2 rounder, I must be mistaken. The blue book says: "special police stock", for what its worth.

This is off WIKI

"Bolt-action shotguns, whilst rare, do exist. One of the best known examples is a 12 gauge bolt-action shotgun manufactured by Mossberg featuring a 3-round magazine, and marketed in Australia just after changes to the gun laws in 1997 heavily restricted the ownership and use of pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns. The shotguns were not a huge success, as the bolts were somewhat slow and awkward, and the rate of fire from these shotguns was noticeably slower (on average) than a double-barrel shotgun. The Ishapore Arsenal in India also manufactured a single-shot .410 gauge shotgun based on the SMLE Mk III* rifle."

i've seen mausers adapted to .410

can't say it was pretty though. :s

I have an Ishapore Enfield converted to 410, single shot. originally these were for Indian police and prison guards, later many were converted for sporting uses in the UK.

  • 4 weeks later...

I really miss mine. I waited since 1995 to buy one...finally got it in 2004. Man that thing was heavy. And really only comfortable from the hip with that pistol grip forend. I had a sweet ass duckbill on the barrel. Never saw anyone with one either

But It did lead me to the Saiga World. Sold it Jan 2005 when I saw this forum. Thanks RicardoMagana!

Look at me now.....can't leave Saigas alone!

Bolt action Mossbergs show up at gunshows occasionally. They are worth about $60, and sell for $100 or less at shows around here. I payed $90 for mine, because I wanted a 12ga. bolt to go with the S-12. I just like to pair a bolt with each autoloader.

Mine is an older 2 3/4" shell version. I have a couple 3" mags to trade if anyone has extra 2 3/4" mags.
