AK-308 2
Other than the steel hull shells, are there any defensive 12 ga rounds that stand out in this regard?
cbear 0
Just a guess, but the european style that use a disk plug instead of a crimp may resist deformation better. I've seen S&B and Dynamit Noble/Noble Sport made like that.
THE_HUNTER 2
Remington Premier Buckshot in the green and gold 5 round box.Heavy duty crimp sealed with sealant.12 OO buckshot, nickel plated.Good stuff! My top round in my S-12 for home defense.Sellier and Bellot will deform as top round, use them after your first. jhereg 0
The Federal Flight Control loads shoot tight patterns in my experience which should indicate little deformation in the pellets. Hornady's TAP load does pretty well also.
mapper 0
Other than the steel hull shells, are there any defensive 12 ga rounds that stand out in this regard? I've tried remington, winchester, federal, fiochi, and nobel the nobel, which has the clear disk in the end, is at the bottom of the list for this.. Fiochi seems to deform the least. the shot is better supported in a plastic holder.. (the #4 buck is at least) as far as remington, add a drop of candle wax to the end to seal it better.. the shot is surrounded by a granulated filler that gets all over the place when the end come open a little.. while I've used winchester & federal, I can't rember how they compared to remington..other than they were sealed on the ends a little better.. look for a shell that has a more rigid plastic case and a good sealed crimp on the ends..that seems to work the best. so in order I'd call it 1) fiochi 2) Remington 3) Nobel your milage may vary
THE_HUNTER 2
My Remington shells already had a sealant applied at the factory.Older ones do not though,as before I used clear nail polish to keep the buffer from leaking.
AK-308 2
Anybody put Silver Bear steel birdshot shells on the top of the mag to try and minimize this? does it work?
GTwannabe 1
I've had the same 5 rounds of Remington Express 00 buckshot stored against a closed bolt for over 2 years. I hand cycle them every so often, but they always slide in and out of the chamber perfectly.

waltham_41 52
Anybody put Silver Bear steel birdshot shells on the top of the mag to try and minimize this? does it work? I had a reloader make me some brass case shotgun shells, #00 buck. They do not deform at all. That is the top shell in any mag I put in my S12 Edited April 25, 2008 by waltham_41
