AK-OD 0
Putting together my parts list for conversion. Is the BG necesary to do if I only use factory magazines and the surefire mags? Will there be feeding issues with these two type of mags if I don't do the BG?
TO THE FLOOR IN A 63 121
I don't think it's necessary unless you want to use standard ak magazines...Probably will pay for itself quickly though.
thehun 20
I just use surefire mags in my Saiga...great clip 20 rounder...plus it has a BHO feature so that is a plus
chevyman097 2,579
I think the surefire mags dont require the BG, but I would recommend it. It will pay for itself then some. You will be able to use any mags with a little filieing of the mag catch.
Schneiderman 2
I live in NY so I don't have a choice, if I want to use 30rd mags I need prebans so I need a bullet guide. Regardless, even if I could use newer mags, I would still install the bullet guide for a number of reasons. Mainly because surplus mags are cheap, and also so that if I ever had to I would have no problem running surplus mags or any other regular AK mags in my rifle. It's good to have options. rob-cubed 74
Install it! With a bullet guide come many more (and cheaper) mag options. It's not hard to do.
swells08 128
Your factory and surefires will work fine without the bg, however as many have pointed out a bg expands your options in a more affordable direction. The $10 difference on each mag quickly adds up...but to answer you original question again no you do not need a bg for factory, surefires or modified promags...congrats on the rifle and have fun making it yours with the conversion. csspecs 1,987
The bullet guide is a good mod. But if you don't have the tools and are happy with surefires then go with that.
Big Boss 21
It is TOTALLY WORTH IT. Think of it this way. Say you want 10 30 round magazines. If you want SureFires, you're gonna be paying $20-30 apiece, if not more, for them. So let's say they cost $30 apiece at 10, that's $300. Now, for the $20 for the feed ramp, you can use surplus AK mags that cost anywhere from $9-15 a pop, so even 10 30 rounders at $15 is $150 + the $20, you saved over $100 and you've got much more reliable mags. Seems like an easy choice to me. Edited March 4, 2010 by Big Boss

I was wondering if it would be worth it or not, I guess after reading a couple of threads on here a few ppl have had trouble installing the BG, just didn't want to mess anything up....but thats alot of savings on the mags.....guess i will give it a shot...BHO added to list
