gremlinx 20
What in the world do you answer back when the CLEO/Sheriff ask " why do you need a SBS/SBR/Suppressor? I'm not looking forward to having him sign the Form 1. The last Sheriff was awesome. He wanted to see what I built!
Klassy Kalashnikov 1,393
"All Lawful Purposes" is the standard answer.
Shandlanos 1,470
Depends on your sheriff. Chances are, if you have a sheriff who asks that question, he isn't too likely to sign. Best answer is none, because you went with a trust.
mgconnor13 206
"All lawful purposes" is good. They didn't ask when I turned mine in to get signed. How ever they did apologize for taking so long to get it back to me. Apparently 3 business days is slow for them

I just walk in, hand it to the Sheriffs secritery and she hands it back 2 minutes later...signed! Besides "all lawfull purposes" try "investment" On my form 4 I put "all lawfull purposes, Investment, target practice". The guy I bought it from Put "because I want to" on his form 1 and it went through. Edited January 3, 2011 by Arik

I believe the only way the ATF can deny you for your answer to that question is if you do not fill out an answer, or you list an unlawful purpose. I've seen a form 1 with the reason "zombies!!!" come back approved.
MCASgt New River 10,036
In NC for everything but Machineguns I put down "For All Lawfull Purposes a per NCGS 14-288.8" or for machineguns in NC "For All Lawfull Purposes a per NCGS 14-288.8 & 14-409." Just depends in what state & county your in I suppose.
USP40 1
My County Sheriff office ran a back ground check on me before the Sheriff signed my form1.
mgconnor13 206
Sheriff was out of town so I had to wait for him to get back to sign it. They didn't ask me any question other then my # they could call when he was back and had signed it. The one clerk was a little confused but the other one knew exactly what it was and was very nice. scoutjoe 277
I put "collection and investment" on mine, the sheriff and I couldn't seem to be in the same place during the week so he actually told me to stop by his house on a Saturday morning. frick 3
I like investment purposes as well, as it gives some meat to a denial, IE, his decision is going to threaten me financially. However, we had a case to go the PA supremes, and ultimately they ruled that no Sheriff, must sign anything pertaining to the guys asking for clearance to get a few MG's, as he was worried about liability for himself. In other words, there is no legal compulsion for them to sign, if they don't want to.
