jwulf 179
Seriously need to start a petition to get the factory to switch from rivets to something easier to remove... working on my conversion now and the rivets on the trigger guard are being obstinate... glad I'm only doing one...though if I were doing more it would be a good excuse to get a drill press. Well, back to the battery charger to see if I can start drilling again. Other than the rivets, the directions from CSS are very good and are making it pretty easy. Nemo61066 10
Do you have a good quality drill bit?
timy 1,185
I haven't drilled a rivet in years. I just grind them flush and knock them out with a punch.
jwulf 179
Yeah, tried 3 different drill bits, all good. But the 4th had the pilot tip and that chewed through them pretty good. thankfully got it all done tonight. Just need my autoplug to arrive hopefully tomorrow and i can go test it. evlblkwpnz 3,418
The weapon is not designed to be taken apart easily. It is designed to stay together and last. Buy some quality drill bits.
gunfun 3,931
FYI, when they say "quality," they mean go to an industrial tool supply and spend around $2 on a cobalt bit. (not to be confused with a certain store's house brand)There are other types on par, but these will chew through metal slowly that quickly chews up other bits.
Matthew Hopkins 1,065
like was stated above, these rifles were never designed to be taken apart. and why on earth are you using a drill? the easiest and simple way to remove the rivets is to grind the head flush and then knock the rivet out.
jwulf 179
I didn't trust myself grinding the heads off. Usually end up grinding where I don't want to. But the pilot tip cobalt one I found in my tool box chewed through them fairly quickly.
horatio 515
also. if you don't trust a grinder, a center punch work great. even an old drill bit will suffice, but i've always had good luck with a sharp center punch when it comes to precision, one shot drilling
American Capitalist 7
Get a better drillbit. Ones made for wood don't work. Ones for concrete and metal do.
Big John! 2,062
Grind a little... look. Grind a little... look. I'm finally getting ready to do my trigger and my grinder will see it's way through this job very quickly.
