Bad engines? Bad transmission? Bad welds? All of the above? Can you be more specific?

I was #1 Chevy guy, until my trans went out twice within 100k miles. Have you seen the impala interior? Top quality interior, for 1982.

Now I buy american, I own a Honda that employs american workers but doesnt have a union that funds gun control.

the one chevy made in the US lol funny how most "imports" these days are more domestic then domestic brands.

as for me my Baby is a japanese car but its built by me for me now i tore her down and shes getting a new heart and drivetrain its going to be my fastest car yet my target weight is 2800lbs with me in it sounds a bit heavy but not so much considering im a very big guy and i do plan on making 800-900whp AWD

I also got off the Chevy train after a long list of complete BS problems.

I think I'm going to start stacking Ford Escorts up outback like Taxis... Best cars I've ever had!

I could say so much....

This is what I will say. I too, was a supporter of GM/Chevrolet up until I figured out that the union was killing an American institution. However, I can't be so blind as to not acknowledge an incredible effort that resulted in an outstanding result. Be happy with your Honda by all means, but if you seriously think anything they make could compete with a Corvette performance wise, I would have to say you're delusional.

I only give credit where it is due, and it is in this case.

BTW, somewhat belatedly, the Impala will have a competitive interior next year. Not that it matters to you, I'm sure.

Rice is nice, no doubt. I've done it myself. So with your setup you should be expecting sub 3 seconds in 0 to 60? Just curious. How many Gs? With that featherweight platform and AWD, I would expect 1.3 unless you chintz out on the tires. You might possibly have the world's fastest accelerating, best handling car. That's awesome!

Ferrari will be knocking on your door.

In 1953 the FIRST true American Sports car was born.

Up to the early 70s they were great cars, then things went bad, the guberment

went after smog, speed and coolness.

NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT.

You've got to keep up on the industry a bit more... Today's cars are far and away the most powerful vehicles ever produced. The ZR-1 makes what, 630hp?

You can order a 660hp Mustang from the dealer with a warranty.

It's a great time to be a gear head if you've got the cash!

Imports never appealed to me. I'll take my '78 F150 and be happy, and actually be able to work on it. lol.

Well Cap, I just can't understand the multitude of negative comments, especially since they pertain to other, older GM models. Have they made more than their fair share of mistakes? Hell yes! Is this a world class car? The jury is still out, but the verdict could be favorable. Perhaps anyone that wants to rag on the car should wait until they compare it's specs to their favorite Japanese car before cavalierly condemning it as inferior. Of course that is the easiest path to take.

It looks like a fun car, but I just can't get over the Government Motors thing, to hell with GM and the unions that ran that company into the ground!

Me neither, but that has nothing to do with the car in question. It was built by qualified enthusiasts, period.

BTW, GM never should have taken taxpayer money, but at least they are trying to get out from under it now. We can always hope.

Except when you shove boost down its throat!

To the op, I'm just glad they aren't going with another concept I've seen floating around. The C7 Vette would have actually been uglier than the new Camaros

ah well the car was already fast to begin with i was making 598whp rwd but honestly its a bit much to drive in the street but im keeping the same chassis and using a r33 GT-R drive train and engine but everything is getting built i dont want that front diff exploding when i launch it with the anti-lag set up.

either way rice or what ever someone calls it, it wont be cheap to finish but hey this is my hobby. i do plan to spend over $100k im not sugar coating it but it will be a beast and for me there is also the satisfaction of knowing that i built it nothing you can buy will give you that satisfaction.

That's until you see how bad the goobment rapes you on it. Bud bought a tricked out Charger when they first came out. He starts checking the sticker later that evening.......$7,700 "Gas Guzzler Tax". No lie, it's on the sticker.

Da, I've heard of GT-Rs puking drivetrain components. With the power you plan on running through it, that could be a real concern.

When I called it rice I admitted I had run it myself. Not overly derogatory, I would think. I agree that building it yourself allows more satisfaction. No doubt about that. I've built a few in my distant past, myself. However, your 100 grand budget on a single vehicle won't allow you to even come close to attaining the refinement the millions spent on R&D by the majors will.

My main problem here is people ragging on and condemning a car they know nothing about. How could they? It only came out today.

Mine in a month or so...

Now that I could see maybe getting interested in. Depends on price, and other variables as well.

Its ok Tim. I think a lot of it is just bias, personal taste. People will criticize anything for whatever reason. Its human nature, and people are strange. While I do like a lot of these new cars and trucks, I always have and will prefer the old ones. If I could afford one of these new ones, Id prolly have one though, maybe. lol.

And that just further illustrates the intrusive, hypocritical nature of government. Those asswipes can think up taxes for just about anything. Except for the taxpayer provided and fueled, armored Suburbans that they ride around in.

BTW, the Corvette might escape the guzzler tax.

i dont in anyway plan on competing with refinement like i said earlier this car is built for me and really from the outside it wont look all that different my baby is all about performance. but like i said its for me im not trying to compete with any manufactures

I know what you're saying Captain, but will admit a bit of frustration. People should be proud of what Americans have done on this particular vehicle but seem unwilling to let it stand on it's own merits or even give it a chance to. Believe me, the people who pushed this thing past the bean counters at GM aren't overpaid, under worked union guys like some have intimated. These guys put everything they have into making this car as good as it can be and are rightly proud of it.

Also, I've been a car guy all my life and am perplexed by the scorn heaped on pushrod engines by all the magazines. I really believe they are outraged that a low tech, obsolete engine continues to hang with all the latest double overhead cam wonder motors. I would take the lighter, less complex powerplant every time myself. They like to gush about a 4.0 liter putting out more power than a 5.7 but that's all smoke and mirrors. The only accurate, valid comparison is weight versus fuel efficiency and power, period. Anyone saying different has an agenda they are pushing.

I'll stop now. I haven't been in the best of moods as of late and was excited about the new Corvette. Obviously, it's a piece of shit. My bad.

'Vettes are far from shit. I dont care what anyone says. Over the years Chevy and every othe manufacturer, had some pretty poor examples, but most '80s cars werent that great, in both looks and performance, but got much better in the mid '90's and up. And like any mass produced product, cars can be just as problematic as guns, electornics and any other motorized products.

Being a Chey man (and I'm talking about when they WERE Chevys,)I will give you prompts!"76-"79 Ford P/Ups were the Best BODY STYLE ever!! Not that they need to, but bring back that body style and I would buy a new one hands down!! Being an old mechanic, those were the heyday of Ford's trucks!

Yeah I have a few old trucks. I drive my car the most, as its much better on gas for going back and forth to work. I love my '78 though. Its my favorite body style of trucks for the period. They look damn good. I dont have pics, but its a non 4x4 long bed with 31" tires and a rattle can paint job. lol. She leaks when it rains, dont have a gas gauge, and the floor shifter is loose, but she runs like a top. lol.
