Venomous 1
Just bought one of the new Salem 6 hand guards today. They use a shorter guide rod that eliminates the end cap that always comes loose.. I will post a review when I get it installed.
Yeeb 3
Just got my shipping notification. Should be here in a few days. I am 2 parts closer to doing my stock chop.
Tankin 1
It's too bad it won't work with the XN models, or I would pick one up.
Mr.BlahX3 12
The website says they will have a rod for the XN in April. Would like to see review.
Mr.BlahX3 12
What effect does a shorter guide rod have on the gun?
Venomous 1
What effect does a shorter guide rod have on the gun? They said it is the same. You are using the internal nut on the end of the guide rod in the same place it was.On the original, after the internal nut the guide rod was longer and then had the end cap. 12elentless 1
I've got an Xn and I ordered one. Hopefully I can make it work
Venomous 1
Got my hand guard today. Build quality seems good. I should have thought ahead and bought three more rails so I would have everything today. Oh well, I will put it on after I get the rails.

VERY nice and I agree on the build quality. Guess I will see how the fitment is this weekend. BTW this is my FIRST post (been lurking for a while though). moc 1
When you guys finish could you post pics of the install including the rails you used and macros of the rail attachment points?
Sphy1005 0
Just got mine too. Finished the install in about 20 min. Very easy. Fits nice and tight. The actual rail is a polymer and the end caps are metal. I'm very happy with it especially for the price. I'll get some day time pics tomorrow

Tankin 1
Just looked on their website...doesn't say anything about not fitting on an XN model anymore. Anyone with an XN try it yet?
SHOTGUN MESIAH 855
I do like this fore guard the best. I like how it is big and round on the bottom for a good grip. I'll get me one when they have it ready for the XN model. But these guys seem to take forever to get a product out. They need to take some lessons from tooth and nail on how to get a product out quick. Edited March 30, 2013 by SHOTGUN MESIAH
Mr.BlahX3 12
The XN version is no longer listed, it was next to the hand guard for pre-XN guns
Sphy1005 0
The bottom is very comfortable to hold. I Like the larger size. I ll probably be able to shoot it Monday.
Venomous 1
Trying to find 3 - 9" rails for this hand guard. I can find them.... But they are all sold out.....
Mr.BlahX3 12
Will this install on stock op rod? I know there will be a few inches sticking out. I don't want to void the warranty just yet. Edited March 30, 2013 by Mr.BlahX3
12elentless 1
Ok. Mine is in. I'm gonn try a few things then ill let you guys know. Mine is an Xn model.
12elentless 1
So far not so bad. The operating rod is an absolute bastard though. There won't be any cutting. it's tapered and threaded three times. I wish the ad had mentioned this. However I will attempt it without shortening the rod.. As soon as I can get it out of the receiver.
12elentless 1
Is there a trick to this? I've used penetrating oil and I haven't even pissed the thing off yet. Help?

I think tooth and nail had a video where he removed it with an automotive tool. I will look for the video. Here is the video. What you want starts at about 4:25.... Anubis 38
Heat it with a torch long enough to kill the lock-tite, lock the op rod in a vise and you should be able to turn the receiver off by hand.
12elentless 1
So this thing isn't coming off by hand? REALLY wished the ad had mentioned you need a machine shop to install this thing and i would've saved my money. Would NOT recommend this to someone else. $85 down the drain. Mr.BlahX3 12
Salem 6 just emailed me. DO NOT CUT OP ROD ON XN MODELS!!!! Check your email from them

If I have to cut, chop, drill, burn, smash, grate, file, weld or anything else to my gun, I am not interested. I didn't buy a $700 dollar gun to play Mr. Mechanic on it. That is why my MKA is still stock and will remain that way. and guess what, my stock gun shoots just as good as your guys $1000.00 in upgrades guns do. MKAVinny 4
are you trying to get the nut off the rod? If so it is left hand thread
12elentless 1
No. I'm trying to get the rod out of the upper. And since salem kindly forgot to tell me I need to open a gunsmith shop to replace the handguard, I'm having no luck. I won't be a return shopper with them.
snwbrdrcr 17
12elentless You don't need a gunsmith you need some patience. I don't see how Salem 6 is the bad guy in this situation. I don't believe they market the forearm as a full on 'drop in' replacement. Most aftermarket ( if not all ) need the op rod removed for installation. A vise is how I removed mine, so if you don't have one you need to find someone who does. Compared to an AR 15 the MKA is pretty easy to build / work on and in reality does require a bunch of specialized tools (like the AR).
