I have ammo, and if you are local and want some to shoot, come see me. If you want to sell it, piss off. If you want some for your shelf, we can talk. That's my opinion, I've got stuff from .05-.10 per round. Lane county oregon, let me know. No shipping. It's a pain and I got stiffed five bucks last time. I've got just over 8k rounds last 3500 were lucky accident.

Too bad there are not more people like you out there! Especially when you stop and think about the number of kids that are not able to spend an afternoon with a brick of ammo, some "reactive" targets, and all kinds of imagination!

I am on the board of a small Conservation Club, who's annual fundraising banquet is next weekend (2-22-14). We raise a lot of money to promote hunting and fishing to local youth, sponsor kids to take the Hunter Safety Course, and donate to various causes that benefit youth.

We have a huge turn out because we generally have about 12-13 guns that we raffle, auction, and make available to "win" in various games. One "give-away" that has always been a HUGE hit with both adults and the children is the .22 we draw for, and give to some lucky kid - no purchase required - just sign up. But sadly the prize has a big let down hiding.... NO AMMO!!! I really feel sorry for the poor kid who won last year's gun, and the one who will win this years (and for how many more years to come?) - who will not be able to buy ammo to use their new treasure.

I certainly hope things change for the better sometime in the near future, but I am not very optimistic when I see people hoarding ammunition.

Exactly how much ammo would one have to own to be "hording"?

I used to buy a case (5000 rounds) of match ammo per season when I was competing in smallbore matches, and would try and have 1000-2000 rounds of hunting/plinking ammo on hand in case my daughter wanted to take the GSG-5 out for the afternoon. I had 2000 rounds of bulk pack hollow points on hand when the shortage hit, and have not bought any more because I refuse to pay $90 for a brick of crappy ammo (when and if I can find it)! I put traveling to matches on hold, and the GSG-5 has stayed in the rack. I hunt small game with a Winchester 1885 single shot, - so I am not using what I have very fast. Years ago I bought a boatload of 5.45X39 at a very good price, and use my '74 to "plink" with. Not sure if this really answers you question, but I think it is up to the individual to leave a little for others, and not buy it up and gouge people on GB!

Sounds like a free market, amazing it only exists in black and grey markets.

My question was my point, one man's horde is another's pittance.

It is a very dangerous path to begin walking down.

More than a few boxers of ammo = hording.

More than few days of food = hording.

More than a few weeks of savings = hording.

That's part of why I buy it when I see it!

I want it for myself and my children, but I feel bad when I'm taking it from someone else. I also know there is a 50/50 chance that the guy behind me was gonna go gouge the crap out of someone else. So right now I am investing, the problem is that people are willing to pay $90 a brick. I think that will be the norm until two things happen, when two lines cross, when the people who have ammo have enough, and when people who want ammo to go out and shoot give up. The market will crash and we might level out in the middle.

I have a pellet gun now, I have a bow now, I have reloading stuff now.

I will sell my .22 shoot I will give it away to the right person! Bring your recoil sensitive child with you, a gun for him, your gun and ammo for you and I will give you 50 rounds of .22 one time per person. My 6yr old shoots my 9mm and my s12 and SHE is tiny so don't bring anyone over 10 expecting free ammo :P

There is a big difference between having what you need, the need to have more than anybody else, and being an opportunist that takes advantage of a situation for profit.

I was in San Francisco in 1989 when a earthquake shut down all services for a few days. There were shop owners that thought they needed to charge people outrageous prices for candles, water, and basic necessities - free market? - I guess you could call it that, but those business owners soon found themselves without customers afterwards when people refused to support them any longer because of their greed.

It may be three years out but eventually things have to level out.  If .22 lr ammo stays as expensive as the larger calibers the .22 lr rifles will be safe queens and sales will go the way of the dodo (sp?).

I was going to buy a HK .22 rifle but forget that noise for now.

That's how it's been for me since I can make 9mm for less than I can buy .22lr

This is why I'm glad that my only 22 is a MKIII. If I want to plink, I grab my S5.45. I recently picked up a Huldra 5.45 upper so I can plink with an AR. I was going to build a 22 upper but the 5.45 makes more sense since I can get tins of the stuff any time I want. (And for much less per round than 22)

Your best bet is to find someone here or there that is willing to trade or sell a bit of ammo at a profit price... I put the call out to trade some ,45acp for some .22LR. A forum member come through at $.13/rd at his cost w/shipping . It wasn't cheap (nor was it cheap for him to buy it) but I've got 1k rounds of ,22 JHP now because someone took pity on me and made me an honest deal. $130 for 1000 rounds is A-OK with me and I count myself darn lucky that someone helped me out.

My suggestion would be to barter with other gun folks and see if you can come up with a reasonable deal. What I bought wasn't cheap, but I've got it now. I still haven't fired any of it and I absolutely owe the seller (who is a well respected forum member whose identity I won't share) the first round of brass out of my 10/22... I just haven't had a good chance to go shoot it.

Point blank: ,22LR is expensive right now in traditional terms... Offer a nice price or a trade on the forum and see what happens. 9mm was unobtainium for quite awhile too but I managed to stock up 1000rds at "ok" prices just by patience.

Of course there is that but let me tell you another view.

Back when hurricane Fredrick hit Mobile AL people would load up trucks with ice take it down there and sell it for a very large premium.

In the outrage that followed such "greed" the practice was made illegal.

Now one is hard pressed to find ice for any price after such an event.

Sure charity orgs will give it away but I can attest from personal experience the results are marginal and inadequate.

Which is better?

There is no "need" associated with 22LR it is a desire.

All in all it has the ring of sour grapes and scapegoating.

When Barry the President King leaves it should get better

You forget... he will be replaced by EMPRESS Clinton...

It will NOT GET BETTER...

.22 LR will not be coming "back" anytime in the forseeable future... SORRY to inform you...

As I said before - I have enough for my hunting and pest control needs to get by without feeling like I have to go out and buy up all I can lay my hands on to stack it in the corner, or make a huge profit on. I have plenty of other guns I can shoot with either ammo that is available or reloaded with components that are available. Would I like to have more? Sure - because it would be fun to take my daughter out and turn her loose with a brick for the afternoon, or be able to compete in a few smallbore matches in the summer. And again, as I have said - it is that group I feel sorry for... The kids that used to be able to save up $20 and have a great day plinking! One can only hope this ends sooner than later, then people can move on and complain about something else.
