imarangemaster 315
From what I have been reading, all of the current production Saigas 7.62x39s have round trunnions and pinned rather than dimpled FSBs like mine (8-2013 production, RWS import). Are these weapons coming with threaded barrels under the shroud or not? I have had both threaded and un-threaded in the older production ones. Sometime you can tell by catching the very front edge of the thread by the crown, but mine, the shroud protrudes a tiny bit too far. What have people been running into? I want to put a Tri-Delta break on mine (flash hiders area no-no in Kalifornistan). I had one on my 300 BLK M4gery, and it worked awesome. It also decreased the flash somewhat, even though it was only classified as a break. Thanks in advance Edited July 30, 2014 by imarangemaster
Spacehog 2,218
That is interesting. My 2009 saiga 7.62 x 39 had the factory threaded barrel under the shroud. The one I just got last week and still need to covert, I didn't even think to check. It was my understanding that the last batch was due to the Plant running out of sporter barrels and having to replace them with military prepped barrels. I am going downstairs now to check. Spacehog 2,218
Negative on threads. Mine was certified on 11-15-13. Still...it had a 76 mm on spread during test fire...not too bad for a typical Saiga.
NickWhite 7
I don't think mine had threads. 09/13 mfg. the guy at the shop said new saigas arnt threaded like the old saigas.
poak 0
Mine's a 9/13 rifle, and looks like the attached photo from ZombTac. Am I to expect its not threaded under there? Edited July 30, 2014 by poak
imarangemaster 315
Mine is 8-2013. The certificate says 137mm. I'm not worried. I think Ivan had too much Stoli the night before. Most Saigas I have do 3" or better at 100. Best was a 223 that shot 1.5" at 100 after restoring it. Doesn't look threaded. You can take a needle or thin knife blade and see if you can catch a thread where the shroud meets the barrel at the muzzle end.
Protectandserve 6
Mines an 08/2013, had a 102mm spread, round trunnion and it doesn't look like there are threads.
ChileRelleno 7,071
There is only one way to tell... Cut the damned shroud or unpin and remove shroud. Except for one limited run, it is a true crap shoot.

Except for one limited run, it is a true crap shoot. This is exactly what I did to check it. The barrel is getting threaded one way or another, factory or not, so might as cut the shroud back 5/8" and check.
paprotective 362
I got 3 coming into the shop today..hoping one will be... if not I will be threading the one with the least 'spread' for myself.. the other 2 are for the shop..
Bigtwin 219
Mine is an 09 production and no signs of threads. It is a flat trunion and dimpled. Also Flash hiders are fine in CA....with a bullet button! But yeah for featureless like you are doing.....well it is a feature!
paprotective 362
All 3 of the ones we just got in don't appear to have threading.. MFG dates in 11/2013. Cut one end already.. no glory.. :/
