I made this jig for bending spring wire to make a good, easy to install retaining wire (shepard's crook) in my Saiga conversions.
This retainer can be installed and removed easily with no tools.
First I put the straight part of the factory spring in a vice and stick a steel rod thru the coils.
Then grab the rod with both hands and pull to staighten out the wire.

Make a loop on one end and put that over the stud on the jig.

Tighten wingnut to hold in place.
Wrap wire around the next screw and put a bend in it.
Wrap around the next screw to complete the retainer shape.

Wrap around one more time to make a loop for the next one.

Cut it and start over.

There should be enough left for another retainer.

It installs like this, but on the left inside of the receiver.

Front loop on the floor, wire under hammer pin groove, then over trigger pin groove.
Push down on the top loop, flexing the wire and insert the end of the safety selector axle thru the loop and into it's hole in the left side of receiver.
Lock it down and your done. :smoke:

Very cool. Or, just leave the factory wire where it is on its own little axis pin (see other thread response for tech details).

Cobra,

Would it be easier to use the Tapco retaining plate coz I really hate fooling with the spring  . I want to use something better for my S-12. gonna try to order from Pvt. Pyle when I get back to NY. Also, thanks for the Sauces, they got there today sometime :super: . I'll let you know how it is when I try them :nuke:

I'm gonna try to construct the same jig and let you know how it is.

Thanks again,

nyclu3
