  1. Tony Rumore(TROMIX) made custom bayonet lugs for Saiga-12s but for the rifle's I am thinking you might have to come up with something on your own. I have thought of putting an M16 bayonet lug on my 308 bacause I have a bipod that uses the bayonet to attach but I can't decide if I want to weld it on the gas block or just buy a clamp on adapter just ahead of the gas block. The clamp on would be easier but would look like an afterthought
  2. What Lower HG did you use? K-Var US made clone of AK100 forend. The rear of the heat shield buts up against the edge of the RSB's barrel ring while the front does not protrude all the way out the front. I had use coarse sandpaper taped to a fat dowel to sand a rounded pocket for the RSB ring and Chamber area so they would fit correctly but it looks top notch now that it's finished.
  3. I just did an AK100 forend this afternoon and the heatshield needs to be moved forward a tiny bit but it fits around the 308 barrel on an older Kalashnikov USA(non BHO) 308-1.I did have to sand the interior to get the forend to clear the rear sight base ring around the barrel though. I'll need one of those cool clamp pn handguard retainers though.
  4. Dude, that is some tight work you did on that handguard retainer!! Great Job.
  5. I am looking high and low for a Saiga 308 bolt.I have a carrier but I need a bolt but I'm not having any luck finding one.I suppose I could try to make one from another bolt but without the 3rd lug I'd worry about the strength when firing full house commercial 308. Any ideas? www.assaultweaponwatch.com/
  6. Here's a lousy pic. There is a step and a weird taper at the muzzle but nothing you colnd solve with a sleeve or muzzle break of some sort.
  7. My buddy is waiting for 10 mags being shipped to Spring Texas and I may have to pony up for another 20+ myself and run the Saiga 308 as my primary "Go To" rifle now that there are mags in the pipeline. How many would I have to order to get a price break?
  8. I do whatever makes me more than $1K per week depending on what time of year it is. I am a construction inspector(sometimes superintendent in my specialty) during the construction season.I deliver 5 and 11 ton Stewart Stevenson trucks when the profit margin breaks .50-.70 per mile.I drive a semi truck when there is a container backlog or need to haul support materials/equipment for disaster relief. I have been a tour bus driver and bodyguard, titty bar bouncer, bar tender, horse trainer and a debt collector, karate instructor and range officer/trainer for a Class 3 machinegun rental range.
  9. That's beautiful.Well that tears it I need to get a forend kit from BRG3 for my 16" when it finally arrives:D
  10. I imagine it would work but to get it perfectly straight would require making a mandrel to align it or the exiting projeectiles would whack the inside of the break. Most NATO muzzle devices will be 22mm outer diameter so whatever the OD of the FSB around the barrel needs to be less than say 20mm or less? Then the depth of the threadd area of this brake or adapter needs to be at least from the muzzle to a couple of mm behind the rearmost pin on the Saiga FSB? This could easily be done but I think your brake exit port diameter would have to be opened up a lot to prevent alignment
  11. That's what they are supposed to cost if they are ,marked up 100% from the importer. I bought my first non BHO Saiga 12 for $199 from the importer at the big Tulsa Gunshow
  12. The whole point is the heat and pressing stresses never touch the barrel if you remove the front sight and attach the sleeve and thread couple to it (not the barrel). Pressing out the barrel and turning it down is the easiest solution for those of us who have the tools but I had a barrel bend last time I pressed it and it was turning in 1.13" groups before I pressed it and 3" groups after pressing it off. Making an FSB with a thread coupler will also be easier and cheaper than the obvious method for th people who don't have the skill or experience to work on their rifle but could ea
  13. The USMC has been testing DMR rifles with 16" barrels and they can hit consistently at 900 yards.
  14. I knew that much, since the magazine itself will technically only hold like a 2.85" shell or something. I've measured it before and it's not a full 3" if I remember. Like you said, any 3" refers to the hull at what I would imagine is the length after it's fired and unloaded. Are you saying that with a steel hull, they actually label them at what they are AFTER they're all loaded and folded? As in a box of 2.75" Barnaul 00 Buck would actually be a length of 2.75" all folded, crimped, and ready to go? If that's the case I'll just gunbroker a box of that or Wolf or something and be good t
  15. Thank you for making this thread less gay

  17. C'mon, don't sugarcoat it. Tell us how you really feel. I'm sorry for holding back but spending so much time around the gentile membership of Saiga-12.com has caused me to become a little soft
  18. People who criticize Glocks have certainly not been in an armed conflict in the last 20 years and probably not ever for that matter but if you need to feel better about your Glock then go here and be prepared to have your eyeballs pop right out of your damned head http://www.ccfraceframes.com/

  20. It cause me to have a probloem with my favorite winchester turkey loads but I have since switched to leaving brass cased ammo in the loaded magazine. I think that taking out one shell would probably alleviate the problem as well but those squashed oval shotgun shells don't inspire confidence do they?
  21. Extractor surface area, big chambers and a heavy reciprocating bolt/carrier mass make Kalashnikovs more reliable than regular rifles. The lever moment of the carrier against the bolt and the metal on metal smack at the front and rear trunnions at the beginning and end of the cycling stroke are the same as whacking a stuck part with a hammer to free them so Kalashnikovs rarely get stuck in either position!! That same whack also causes all of the rounds in a Kalashnikov magazine to reseat themselves if they were even slightly askew it get's corrected before the bolt come back for a fresh
  22. Don't be fooled by the finished product!! Those welds looked like the Himalayas before I went after them with the die grinder.I slowly added 8620 rod until it was way more than I needed then ground the excess off and then die grinding to shape finished with a set of diamond files to make the flats flat and the curves round. Total time invested was about 4 hours meaning that essentially ther is $100 worth of my labor in it
  23. That's not the AK that had the barrel pressing issue, that is my first attempt at a solution. It is the original fron sight cut at the exact angle to weld it to the original gas block.I clamped them together, welded them and then cleaned up the welds with a dremel and a rounded diamond file.
  24. This used to be my solution but the last time I pressed a barrel on what was an extrememly accurate rifle I noticed my group sizes opened up from just under an inch to almost 3 inches so I have been leary of pressing barrels on and off of anyrthing but short stiff krinkov type barrels since then. Besides I think I enjoy the longer sight radius enough to do some experimenting with the FS/AK74 thread adapter thing and worse case scenario I replace it or salvage the top portion of the sight and weld it to the GB like I did on my shorty. I wonder about the thread adapter though I have s
