  1. Well besides the fact that there is no comparison as far as looks go, it's all about the ergonomics. If you handle one that has been reverted back to it's original configuration, you'd understand.
  2. You are NOT 922r compliant if you are using a factory mag. You only have 3 countable parts there. The stock, PG and piston each count as one. There are no countable springs.
  3. I didn't realize that it had been moved forward. Now that you mention it though, I suppose it would have been further back from the factory before they put on the aftermarket pistol grip/stock. I'd be curious to hear the advantages of repositioning it rearward again. He means you need to move it forward. In other words, convert it. Your fire control group is still in the factory position. It hasn't been altered. The benefits of converting the S12 back to its intended AK configuration are a much smoother trigger pull and obscenely good balance. Precisely. Move it forward, back
  4. At least that's what we're ASSUMING, since the ATF has never issued a definitive answer on what they consider to be the piston. I know that logically the puck would be considered the piston. But when dealing with the ATF you can throw logic right out the window. The part that makes me wonder, is why the carrier extension (which is the countable part in rifles) is not counted as an op rod (as in a SKS) if it is not counted as the piston. I avoided the whole mess by using a US made forearm and PG along with the FCG to give me enough countable parts.
  5. Correct, It will only fit if the trigger is moved back to it's original configuration.

  7. Looks good. All you need to do now is move the trigger back where it belongs.
  8. Ever since I discovered during a conversion a while back that the S-12 pins were slightly longer, I have been trying to find a source for them. I have an AK built off of a bent blank that was off dimensionally ever so slightly. A normal AK axis pin is just a hair short for this rifle and the S-12 pins would be perfect for it. I have thus far been unable to locate any. If anyone finds a source for them please let me know.
  9. It's a snug fit for sure. But it's rock solid once installed.
  10. You can get a trigger guard and selector stop from AK-Builder for @ $20 http://ak-builder.com/modules.php?name=Con...age&pid=135
  11. The smiley you chose seems quite appropriate. After reading your reply, it is obvious that you are smoking something. We are talking specifically about saiga shotguns. There has never been a official determination as to which part is considered the piston. Several vendors are/were selling the pucks as a 922r countable part. (although it appears that some are now backing away from that claim. Tromix/MAA no longer even list the pucks for sale.) Then Tapco releases, what I would refer to as the op rod in a Saiga shotty, but what is considered the piston on a regular AK (rightly so) and they s
  12. MAA's revised listing. On AK's and on Saiga rifles, the steel shaft extending off of the bolt carrier is the gas piston. In the Russian American Armory factory manual, the puck-shaped disc located in the gas block is defined as the gas piston. ATF has not issued any special ruling on this. There has been no known disseminated ATF statements to indicate that the "puck" is not the piston. The TAPCO piston is made in the United States and if the traditional steel shaft extending off the bolt is determined to be the piston, the part will counts as 1 US part for 922r compliance. So if th
  13. It would be pretty hard to screw up the hammer while doing the small amount fitting required. You are not going to be working on any critical areas.
  14. Have you given any thought to offering them without the breach feature, as discussed in this thread? It seemed that there were quite a few that were hoping for that option. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=34637
  15. The G-2 is a replacement for the original AK FCG to be used in the original location. It will fit (with a slight hammer mod) if you put it where it belongs. As far as trying to use it with that mickey mouse linkage system, I believe only the hammer can be used. I'm not positive since I've never tried it. Why do you not want to restore it to it's original configuration?
  16. You are correct. That stupid gunwiki thing is wrong. (as far as shotguns go) That thing just confuses people even more. I'm not sure why an electronic aid is required to count to 10. I had that mastered by 1st grade. The S-12 trunnion is not a countable part (I don't know why, since it is in everything else) The ATF's ruling on the gas piston is strange also. I don't know why they don't count the carrier extension as an op rod or why MAA lists it as a countable part, adding even more confusion.
  17. I think it is damn irresponsible for MAA to continue to list that as a 922r countable part. I wonder how many others they've sucked into buying one? I know that the chance of getting picked up on a 922r violation is slim, but what happens if somebody is counting on that part to be legal?
  18. I think it is damn irresponsible for Tapco and/or MAA to call the bolt carrier extension a 922r countable part. It clearly is not and could end somebody up in prison. If the part was countable, it would be listed as an op rod by the ATF and it isn't. The only other way it could count was if the ATF was counting it as the piston, which would mean that the puck was not countable.
  19. Those are what's left of the 2nd run. They have not started shipping the 2nd run yet. When they do, they will be starting with the orders received back in September. Shipping is supposed to be starting soon.
  20. Do you know of a book, or internet site where I can find the design specs relating to this? I've searched, but with no luck. I spoke to a mechanical engineer about this, and he was sceptical (to put it mildly). I'd like to be able to point him towards the source where you got this information, if it's alright. That absolutely happened. It was all over the gun forums (including documentation) The two biggest shockers were that he wasn't even the owner of the rifle, he was the one shooting it, and the ATF could not even replicate the malfunction. I think I have a link on my work comp
  21. The MD drum is only $230. That's only going to get you 4-1/2 of the 12 round mags. Besides the jury is still out on them. There have been reports of breakage on the 12 rounders. I would not even order one until they have a proven track record.
