  1. My Makarov is Way more accurate than my Saiga in rapid fire, and works with only one hand. In the end, how much damage you do is secondary to whether you hit the target in a timely manner.
  2. k dawg: In a car. The rifle only works (well) when you get out of the car (like your hurricane experiance). They weren't going to a hurricane or riot. They were carring a rifle in the car with the intention to (what else?) take it out at the party. It will be hard for their lawyer to say that that was not their intention and therefore malice aforethought. If they had only intended to menace the other group the SKS could have been unloaded. On the other hand, I have considered carrying my Saiga in the truck once I put the side folder on it. It could make for a convincing road-rage de
  3. I grew up in upstate New York. Beautiful forrests, rolling hills, lakes with no dams. I moved to Texas in the '70s. Never looked back. There's something about Texas' 'can-do' attitude and big horizons that gets into the blood. I visit and appreciate other places, but I always come home.
  4. All we can do is try to be a good influence, try to set a good example. Often the very people you Don't want to have a weapon are the same people that are most adamant about getting one. I wish we could at least require gun purchasers to take some kind of handeling and safety course... Of course, that will never happen. And people that have it in thier heart to do bad things Will find a way to do bad things... Nobody carries an SKS in the car for self defense (or, if they do, they're dim)
  5. I shot bricks and bricks of 22LR as a kid. We didn't need no stinkin' ear muffs! Didn't do me no harm. But I do wonder why all the keys on the right side of a piano keyboard just go "tink, tink."
  6. Is it just that extra notch? I might get that anyway
  7. I finally ordered my FCG from Tapco and they're backordered till March! Anybody know where to get 'em?
  8. Thanks guys, now I'll have to put on my 'Haggeling Boots" I'll let you know if I'm lucky.
  9. It's the layers of control from top to bottom. There's so much centralized control that nobody's really responsible for individual behavior. When Right and Left go far enough, they meet in anarchy.
  10. Many years ago I had the oppertunity and connections to do business in Russia, when it was the Soviet Union... barely. Somehow Divine Providence steped in and prevented me from squandering my savings on crooked deals, I managed to do that on my own ;-) It is very difficult to do any kind of business in the East where contracts are "fluid" and unexpected barriers can pop up overnight. I can't blame the russians for wanting to make a buck but the grey market system left in place by the soviet dictators works to their disadvantage. Someone else may take over the Saiga line. I hope so.
  11. So I found a 22" Saiga .308 NIB. How much should I be willing to pay... Nah... It's too easy for you to spend MY money... What would YOU pay?
  12. Fastenal caries a wide variety of fasteners. Ask for a really hard annodized one. You usually have to buy several or a small bag. Get a good grade. http://www.fastenal.com/web/locations.ex
  13. I, for one, would be very interested to see how the trimmed FSB works out. I was thinking of using a sleeve to attach one. I DO NOT want to press the FSB off.
  14. I've heard that about US floorplates before. What part of it doesn't fit?
  15. Gas welding=Old Skool welding Acetylene and oxygen, a lovely blue 6000 degree flame. I don't have a TIG welder but one would have worked. I have a MIG (wire) welder but it would have been too messy for such a small job, I guess. I like using gas for stuff like this because you can really control where the metal flows. You can get welding gear at pawn shops and gas at a welders supply. It would be expensive for this one project but it's a fun hobby. Odorless and explosive acetylene needs to be handled carefully but training is readily available.
  16. I don't think he's talking about cash. I worry for you Bvamp. Keep us posted as you are able.
  17. That's why I'm trying to make these "Saiga" mags from AK mags. I'm converting mine but I had hoped that others could use it on their unconverted Saigas. Eric, if you haven't yet, see the recent high cap mag thread.
  18. Saul, one of your links is garbeled. Could you repost it? A phone call to my local ATF said I could do this but they have been wrong before... more than once. Sent an email to them asking for a written answer. Damn
  19. What I welded was a spacer in the notch at the front of the mag. The spacer takes the place of the feed ramp lifting the bullet towards the chamber. without it the bullet nose struck the end of the barrel not the chamber.
  20. Me to, TX that is. I'll post more info once I see what it's going to take to make some.
  21. Was that a new Saiga? When did you get it? I thought that Saiga might start adding a feed ramp with the end of the AWB.
  22. That's the point. This modification of an AK mag makes it fit and function in a Saiga. Saiga made slight changes in the mag release and feed ramp in the gun so that it would comply with the AWB (ie: no hi cap mags) AWB is gone. There is no national ban on the use of hi caps. If it's legal in your state go for it.
  23. Better photos 3 I'll get it cleaned up and primered today and take it to the range tomorrow. If all goes well I'll pick up a handfull this weekend to convert.
