  1. Rangemaster..Given the shaky state of our society, I am giving my carry and home defense handguns some second thoughts....1911`s and double action revolvers are what I am familiar with. I will be 62 this spring, and slowing reflexes coupled with not enough trigger time, make me realize that maybe I need to rethink some things...Would I be safe in assuming that a Glock or XD is as close to a double action revolver in function as a semi-auto is going to get? I guess i am old fashioned enough that i will never care much for the looks of the new guns, but "function" comes first. Are there other
  2. Replacing the trigger group gives you three American made parts for 922 compliance, and also gives you a better trigger.
  3. Hey Damaged...I have an unused internal block for a 223. (I assume it will work on x39 also). Since Ace sent me the wrong stock (AR15), I either have to exchange the stock or buy something else and eat the block. They charged me 40 for it, and I willl sell it to you for the same price..Let me know if interested.
  4. Thanks for the help guys..I emailed Dinzag last night at the same time I posted this message...As busy as he is right now I had no idea when he might get a chance to check his email..I had already tried removing the die from the frame and tightening the spreader..no go..thing wouldnt budge....Got an email late last night from Dinzag and his solution took about 20 seconds..there is a small 'set screw" in the side of the die itself..I ran that in and the TAT turned easily...Finished threading, and the brake is installed!
  5. Ok..I give up!..I got four threads on my barrel with Dinzags threading tool..The instructions say " after four to six threads, loosen the tightening screws and tighten the "spreading" screw and take the TAT out of the die"....So after getting started and that first four going smoothly I am at a complete standstill..I have tried everything I can think of and the TAT wont budge. Has anyone else had this problem?..Any suggestions? If I clamp the shaft of the TAT in a vise it may be damaged so I am avoiding that...so far.
  6. Im going to blast mine with aluminum oxide in the next few days..Then rust blue..Ill post pics of the results.
  7. Just an update...Finally got my Ace order day before yesterday..and they sent an AR15 stock! Sent them an email asking for return instructions..No reply...They have the last money they will get from me.
  8. Thanks for the response and photo Lumox...Im thinkin I may do one of these.
  9. I dont know about the "angles" on a Tromix..but I can tell you I have bought my last Ace product..After accepting the fact that they do not notify you when your purchase ships, I finally received my internal block and skeleton stock a few minutes ago..Yup..got the block right..Yup, included the sling "upgrade"..and..DAMN! sent the wrong damn stock! The invoice is clearly marked "AKFX"..and they sent an ARFX (complete with install instructions)...Any further purchases I make will be from Tromix and Dinzag. Your mileage may vary.
  10. Thanks for the info!..I appreciate it.

    Drill bit

For what its worth..I recently drilled my trigger plate and guard..I had read on another thread about using "beeswax" as a lubricant for drilling hard steel..I used regular hi speed bits and some home made bullet lube I had on hand (that was 50 % beeswax) and was very surprised at how easily they drilled out.
  12. I havent found a thread that specifically addresses the question..If I buy an AMD 65 kit..Can I use the existing trunnions with a laser cut flat and..can I replace the barrel with a Romy X39?..If I can..Is there a specific barrel required? Also are there any major issues i would have to overcome? Thanks.
  13. With no comment as to the suitability of oak for gun stocks..Something to consider..Most oak shrinks..a lot..You might want to let it shrink awhile before finishing it.
  14. Sixty years ago, those who hunt turkeys with a pistol gripped, or thumbhole stocked, 12 gauge auto would have been sneered at by THAT generations "gun snobs" who were raised on nose breaking single barrels (polk stocks), and double barrels. Some time ago I got rid of a Franchi 3 1/2 auto for two reasons..It gave me a concussion with 3 1/2 turkey loads, and it wasnt dependable under EVERY circumstance...My $250 dollar Mossberg is! Dependability in a shotgun is as important as its pattern...The Saiga 12 is the Mossberg of shotguns...Buy yourself a box of turkey loads and the tightest choke
  15. Thanks Tritium..Does it require a different kind of "blaster" or nozzle to use alum. oxide?
  16. Im hoping someone has done this..I ordered a bottle of Laurel Mountain Forge Rust Brown/Blue solution. I would like to avoid using lung busting strippers on the old finish if possible..Both Laurel Mountains instructions and a gent on another site used 120 grit aluminum oxide to blast off the old finish...I am not finding anyone who has a bead blaster, but have found a sand blaster I can use..has anyone used a sand blaster to remove the factory finish?.. If so what were the results?..Thanks
  17. I fear that once again gun owners are going to wait till the horse has left the barn. Gun owners in Britain and Australia trusted their politicians to "do the right thing" and we know what happened there. They have been trying "passive" disobedience in an effort to get their rights back..How much luck are THEY having? We can post on here about "my cold dead fingers" all we want..but when reality comes knocking..When we look at our wife and kids and grand kids and have to decide between turning our firearms in..or twenty years to life in the pen...How many of us are going to make a stand? Wh
  18. Wish I had seen this post before I ordered!..I just logged in on the Ace site..Under the shopping cart it showed order placed 01/02..Then "received" 01/05...Three days to figure out I really wanted it??..I also looked under the heading "my previous orders" and it has "shipped to" and my name.."Shipped" as in past tense..as in a done deal...yet the order only shows..received..If this JT outfit is running the show now they need to hire a pro to redo that website....At the least it should show availability and notify the customer when their order ships.
  19. Is "Flying off the handle"..and "Jumping to conclusions" considered exercise?
  20. I know this is the kind of question that drives the mods over the edge, but I have used search, and gone through the tech sections and can not find a thread I read recently..I THINK it was possibly "Valmet"..or a name something like that who posted instructions and photos of a build he did and used the old rust blue method. If someone could steer me to that thread I would really appreciate it...Is there a way to "bookmark" threads you would like to refer back to?
