  1. very nice... I feel Saiga Envy coming on...lol
  2. I believe that is the wood furniture that came stock on his .308 I know from the shape of it that is stock Saiga furniture
  3. just thought of something... am I still S.O.L. using this method because mine is a .308 2nd gunman told me I wouldnt be able to swap out to Bulgarian threaded FSB because it is too small for a Saiga 308. The Bulgarian FSB is 14.5mm ID vs. 16mm ID (Saiga 308). There's not enough material to ream/hone it out.
  4. I carry an FEG PA-63 that I picked up for $125. When I first got it, the trigger pull was horrible. I have since switched out the springs & it is one of the nicest firing pistols I have ever seen. Granted not to accurate over 20 yards, but I figure if SHTF it will be closer than 20 yards.
  5. I probably would have done the same thing. A blowtorch has come in handy numerous times. If a BFH doesnt work, take a blowtorch to it.
  6. great minds think (or almost remember posts) alike.
  7. Awesome post. This is the kind of stuff I need to read (and see pictures of) to fully understand what needs to be done. Thank you for taking the time to document this.
  8. I believe you are right. I think the straight pull is just when they are imported to the UK. Has to do with their laws. Just like when imported here the trigger is moved & no pistol grip.
  9. wasn't there a post somewhere on this forum where someone had problems with their gas piston after using lock tite, because it did not have enough play? Or is my memory failing me again......
  10. I agree with Cobra. I like it here because I do not feel "afraid" to ask questions. This is the first time I have ever "modified" a rifle. Up to this point my rifle knowledge consisted of knowing what they were, their history, how to fire, and how to clean them. Big Thanks to everyone here.
  11. hehe... the blowtorch comments are all over this forum... That will never be lived down.....
  12. I fully agree with you. If I get another rifle & want the bolt carrier polished, it will definitely be bead blasted....
  13. I saw those stocks for sale in the FAC (guns-n-stuff) catalog. It would be nice to buy the Saiga with all the toys already on it.
  14. thanks for the info. I knew I could count on the people here. 2nd Gunman - Thanks for the size comparison between Bulgarian & .308 Saiga
  15. I just wanted to make sure the opening in the muzzle break was large enough for the bullet to pass thru. Pointer - did you have to trim the barrel sleeve at all, or change the front sight??
  16. here is some tools that are suppose to help in threading a barrel. http://dynasystems-ltd.com/threadingkits.htm Pistonring - does this mean you are not going to be doing the pin on break? I was hoping I could follow your lead.....
  17. I have thought about replacing the FSB with a Bulgarian one that has the muzzle threads. But I have also thought about doing a pin on one the way Pistonring described, by cutting 1 inch off the sleeve. Either way I still need to know if a regular AK 47 or 74 muzzle break has the correct size opening in it for a .308 The way I am thinking is it should be the same. I think the .308 & the 7.62x39 bullet "projectile" is the same size around. But I am not sure of this. Figured it is better to ask then find out the hard way.
  18. Here is where I found my info on polishing the bolt http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/chrome.htm
  19. What is the correct muzzle break to put on a .308 when converting? Is the ones listed for 7.62 the right size? I don't want to guess, or go with what I think is correct & screw it up.
  20. thats is great news on you posting those pics. This is something I have been thinking about trying. I don't feel comfortable doing the threading myself, but I will do the cut & pin.
  21. that is what i thought... thank you... got some ideas running thru my mind & that made me wonder about the length
  22. is the 22 inch barrel lower handguard the same length as the 16 inch? i think it would be, but just want to check....
  23. Chuck, Where in Florida are you? Im real close to Tampa and have already done the .308 conversion. If you need some help let me know. -Vulcan762 Vulcan - If you do not mind me asking where near Tampa? I live in Port Charlotte.
  24. i thought using the mineral spirits would act like paint stripper. It did on one of my mosins. Also I have always seen blue & rust remover take paint off easily. The paint on the bolt carrier was really on there. Halfway thru my removal process I was regretting using the process I had chosen. But as soon as I was finished I was happy with I had done it.
