  1. For what it'll cost you to build an Upright Drum Smoker (UDS) it seems kind of a waste of funds to buy anything store bought. Here is a pretty good walk through of what it takes to make one...The only place where I see he did something kind of wrong was paying 100 bucks to have that fire basket fabricated, with a little yankee know how you shouldn't pay more than a few bucks to get your fire basket done. http://howtobbqright.com/udssmoker.html Here is a nice youtube video walking you through a build, what I like is how he did his fire basket; not bad for a guy without a welder.
  2. It's just the nature of the powder, plenty of power and tons of muzzle flash without going over pressure. I use H110 for my 357 magnum "fun loads" when I just want to play with my big kids toy. I use a Ruger GP100 with a 6" barrel like a little kid uses a pellet gun. A full load of H110 and some jacketed hollow points had absolutely ruined the day of some tad poles that were just sitting there in that mud puddle minding their own business...
  3. oh is that why they put that little shell extractor on the side of the gun you know that little knob that smacks the jammed shell out comes standard on all ar15,s gee guess they knew they jammed when they built them!!! oh and toyotas suck!!lol Punisher, I am not familiar with a "shell extractor" being anywhere but on the bolt or a "little knob that smacks the jammed shell out" WTF are you talking about? Maybe you thinking of the Forward Assist?
  4. My suggestions for a home defence S-12 are.... Start with an 18" S-12 Convert to the origional configuration with a pistol grip. I think it would be ideal to go to a gun show and handle every style grip on the market and choose what you like. I like this one http://store.carolin...r-Pistol/Detail Pick out a nice comfy stock. The NATO length stock with a limb saver butt pad would work nice and would work well for the "tucked under the arm" maneuver, if you need to roll like that. http://store.carolin...AR-Stock/Detail Use a forearm that allows you to mount a light on it
  5. I have been doing a lot of research into finishes and this is what I have learned so far....hope this helps. For quick and easy store bought locally go with the BBQ paint. It will chip, and you will be touching it up a lot. It is cheap in every sence of the word, but it will get you by if you don't want to put much money and time into the finish. Middle of the road is most any of the spray and bake (a few air cure over several weeks) finishes you can buy. The spray finish Gibbles linked to is a perfect example of what I mean by spray and bake. It will hold up a whole hell of a lot bett
  6. Crusader is the member that did the install useing XSs' rear tritium insert sight for a 1911. I don't remember what he used for his front sight. I have installed the same rear sight on one of my S-12s and used a tritium AK front sight post (made by Trijicon) that I modified to fit in a WECSOG hooded front sight (HK knock off) that welds onto the gas block. I am happy with my first go at a front sight for proof of concept. I am going to fab. a final product sometime this spring and install these sights on all my S-12s. With the front sight set-up I have my sights sit higher than the st
  7. Well now, this puts your actions in a whole new light. Fuck 'em Mike. Fuck 'em good and hard. I am going to purchase as many of your drums as I can fit in my budget, please use the money I send you to keep on pounding Promag good and hard.
  8. My first thought when I saw the title was "Does a bear shit in the woods".....I like how you tweaked it better.
  9. So this is to make it easier for people to get it in the hole? I just put a 'lil hair 'round it and I'm good to go. I can even find it in the dark now......
  10. I just wrote a nice thank you letter to the competitor who entered the market, causing the price drop from MD Arms. I wrote: "Thank you, Sir, for entering into competition with MD Arms for the drum market. Their reaction to your entrance into the drum market was to drop the price on the drum they manufacture. I can now afford to buy one of their drums. Again, thank you for competing with MD Arms."
  11. That is very interesting. Thanks bullturkey
  12. I am shopping for pouches to hold the factory five round mags. Does anyone have a favorite/recommendation? I prefer MOLLE style, but can work with most anything. Thanks
  13. The only thing that comes to mind is to take a fairly long, about 3 or 4 foot, length of tubeing that is threaded to screw onto the barrel....and screw it on. Then use some sort of fairly long straight edge to visualy check that it is in line with your barrel. I don't know of any other method to check the alighment of a thread pattern, but machinists may. Do a search of machinists forums etc. and see if they discuss ways to check the alignment of threads. Good luck
  14. I like your thinking, Mike. I have not had the pleasure to own one of your drums yet, but you can be sure it is right on the top of my list of "must haves".

    Bayonet

Thanks for those links, Gas Giant. I am going to stay with the Swiss bayonet. I can fabricate everything at home like ML Roak did, who was I kidding to think I was the first to put that bayonet on a S-12? lol Thanks for all those other suggestions guys, but I really don't like the looks of the AK bayonet and all those modern jobs also look less than sexy. I like how the stainless bayonet and mounting hardware stands out against the black S-12, pretty sexy in my opinion. I am going to see what it would take to fabricate a stainless handle to replace that plastic one the bayonet comes
