  1. Matte Black. Looks very similar to the factory finish.
  2. Thought this photo might help some of the newer guys. I will be doing a basic conversion and I am slowly but surely gathering the parts. Still a couple more I would like but I think I have all I need to begin as soon as time allows. Wish me luck.

    WTF!!!!!

I am glad someone said this. Being new to the shotty world I had envisioned my S12 as a HD weapon/Sporting Clays/Small or Large game/Pretty much anything gun. Don't get me wrong. I love this gun. but I have also come to the conclusion that I need to get an 870 or something similar to do the other more sporting activities. I will still give it a try with the Saiga but I agree with myndseye about this being a purpose driven weapon. You don't use a sledgehammer to drive tacks.
  4. I just went with the simplest option, which was the recoil pad the Russians originally came up with to use on AKs fitted with the under barrel GP-25 and GP-30 grenade launchers (you can see a picture on Max Popenker's website at http://world.guns.ru/grenade/gl05-e.htm ). An interesting feature of this pad is that it can be used on any type of standard AK stock, be it a solid fixed type, an underfolder, a triangular-side folder, or a solid side-folder (it won't work on the various incarnations of thumbhole stocks or the solid fixed Yugoslavian stocks, and I don't believe it can be used on an R
  5. Thanks for the heads up on the article. You mentioned a recoil pad for a standard AK stock. I am setting my s12 up with that stock and have been looking for an add on recoil pad. Do you have a recommendation? Thanks.
  6. $1,200.00? Is it gold plated?
  7. FCG is fire control group... i got the whole tapco fcg for both of my saigas from Dinzag... he modifies them so they clear the BHO.... in regards to 992 i wont make a big deal or drag it out.. but heres the issue... we all love to shoot for different reasons.. and we love being able to shoot military style rifles... we also like owning them... EVERY TIME someone makes a gun that is out of spec.. you run the risk of drawing negative attention to our hobby... 992 compliance is EASY to achieve.. so i ask you.. why add fuel to the gun control fire by making anything illegal.... i mean seri
  8. Thanks for the input. I have only been doing this on my primary SD weapons. S12 for HD and Glock 27 for CC. I have a few mags for the each. I have heard various opinions on this and wanted to ask some experts in the field. Thanks again for the reply.
  9. I would like to get an opinion on rotating full magazines to relive spring tension. I have gotten into the habit of emptying loaded mags periodically and reloading empty mags. to relive the tension on the Mag springs. Give them a rest so to speak. Is this a good practice or unnecessary?
  10. I am pretty new to this also but there is an excellent tech section that will answer a lot if not all of your question. The vendors web sites represented here are a wealth of information also. I recommend checking out MAA's conversion section. It spells out the basics of conversion and parts available very clearly. Welcome aboard.
  11. Nice post. Great article. Maybe this will finally put the buffer question to an end.
  12. Only if you can get your hands on a Russian 8 rounder. Other than that, you will need to convert to use the "high-cap" mags. Could you please tell us why Thought that only the wraithmaker required mods to the gun to function. You are probably fine, since you are in Iceland and more than likely, you don't have bullshit legislation like we do here in the States. Didn't notice the Iceland location. my eyes are failing me

  14. +1 to what TR said Take it from someone who went down that road. Many more possibilities with the Saiga.
  15. I am pretty new as a member but lurked around for months before signing up. I am really glad I did. Got an S12 back in early December after researching tactical shotguns for weeks. That is how I discovered the Saiga. I have learned so much here it is remarkable. I now have all the parts needed for my first restoration/conversion on the S12 and the seed of an idea to get an 7.62 next. (got to work on the wife a bit, long range capability an all that.) Thanks for this sight and all its contributors.
  16. Damn man. I am doing my restoration myself but I just want to find some work to give you more business after that post. Not that you need it. Excellent post.
  17. love the avatar. Oddball. Kelly's Hero's was one of the best WW2 movie's ever. I loved the T34 dressed up as Tiger 1's.
  18. That is what I thought I was seeing. Just needed some confirmation. I will be ordering one next week. Just to stir things up. Muzzle device or not? Also, what load would you recommend?
  19. Would either of you gentleman recommend the Poly Choke for this activity. I too have an interest in shooting clays with this gun.
  20. Thanks again to all those who responded. Especially those in included photo's! I decided to go with the shepherds crook for now. I have come to the realization that this weapons platform is designed to be maintained and repaired easily (ie. in the field) and there are several ways to achieve the same results (a functioning gun). Although I am sure there are some techniques that are superior to others. I hope you gentleman will not mind my periodic questions once the weather changes and I am ready to begin my restoration. My best wishes to all at this forum.
