  1. Does the poly choke create any flash hiding qualities to it? I'm asking because it has those side vents and I don't know if that is for choking benefit or flash hiding.
  2. The S12 is built on the AK action, so it's really the same "east vs west" argument that's been ongoing. You know, how the west has hardware that is precisely engineered and manufactured, and the east's is designed to be cheap to produce as long as it's functional and effective. And those stories of AK's being assembled using a rock and a hammer don't help it's reputation. So westerners will not be comfortable with something that is not Italian, Belgian, British or American made etc. And we like to pay more for it.
  3. You could probably get by with just the thin front window. Very cool. Nice work Cobra and SaigaShooter.
  4. If you are going to have Tromix do the work, then you've got no worries. Just ask Tony what he would do. In fact, the slogan on this board should be WWTD (what would Tony do)
  5. It is alleged that the Russians have developed it already, and it is one of the new features of the current production SWAT model. What would be ideal, is if one of the forum members in an eastern bloc country could get his hands on one and post a diagram of it. (shop drawings? ) Or even just a photo looking in the receiver. You can assume that if the Russians did it, it works.
  6. There are many companies in the U.S. that manufacture AK's. Some are small like KREBS CUSTOM and PIECE OF HISTORY FIREARMS LLC and some are bigger like ARSENAL INC. and AK USA. http://www.arsenalinc.com/about.htm http://www.ak-103.com/ Arsenal makes the SLR-103 which is really a Bulgarian SLR-95 but made in Nevada. AK USA is in Florida. Either of these companies could produce the S12 in the U.S. easily.
  7. The only thing keeping them from the U.S. is politics, mostly U.S. politics. The factory, the importers, and the distributors are all making good enough money to be motivated to supply them. It costs the Russians under $30 to produce an AK and you know what they sell for here so you can do the math. Also, you know that the Venezuelans aren't paying no $350 for one like we do.
  8. You guys might not realize that the profits on making this kind of stuff are minuscule if you are lucky. At what they are charging, they are probably just breaking even. I'm just guessing here, but they probably make the parts that they want for their hobby, and sell some over-runs to recoup some of their cost. Also (guessing) that they make actual money doing runs of other things as a sub-contractor, probably not even gun-related. So anyway, rather than criticize them, why not thank them for making something for the S12 platform.
  9. That's a good deal. I don't know what's wrong with that other guy. If acca47 is selling 8 rounders for $95 shipped, and 5 rounders go for $45 to $50, then it really should even be 2 to 1.
  10. The follower wouldn't be able stop the bolt more than a few times withoug breaking. It must trip some linkage that stops the bolt. Also, with regard to the manual and automatic BHO's on the same gun, it would not be unusual to have them both because there are times that you would want to lock the bolt back manually, independant of what you've got in the mag.
  11. The problem is, and it is not always obvious, is that there really is not a lot of money to be made from a specialized accessory for a non-ubiqutous weapon system like the S12. Something like a picanny rail thing for an AR15 can be sold to potentially thousands of people, but something for the S12 can only be sold to hundreds of people or maybe even tens of people. So in this case there are 3 outcomes. 1) You spend a lot of start-up money for tooling and produce a run of them which don't sell as well as you thought so you take the loss and give up. 2) You make them by hand one at a time
  12. My take on it is that it will bolt (rivet/pin) right on and work fine. I don't think that they would mess with the feed angle. The only possible incompatibility would be with the last round BHO that the swat S12 has (allegedly). This would explain why the follower on the new mag comes up higher. If there is a different bolt or carrier, it would have something to do with this. Perhaps the new bolt/carrier is not a necessity for the new mag to work. One more thing is that the mag and magwell are being sold as a set, which leads me to believe that it is intended to be a retrofit kit for
  13. If you don't have the AK scope rail, then I would go ahead and mount one on the left so you would have the authentic set-up and be able to mount all of the standard AK stuff on it. If your rifle does have the AK scope rail on the left, then you wouldn't want to put this B Square thing on the right, unless you were crazy.
  14. Is that 2 mags put together with black duct tape? And a +4 and a Magpul for good measure?
  15. The fact that the follower of the swat mag comes up higher does not indicate a different feed angle, presumably it is like that to activate the BHO. Regarding the question of how the swat mag locks in, it is with the same lever as a regular S12 because you can see the slot in the magwell for it and the same pivot point is used. My guess is that you could use the magwell and the swat mag in a regular S12, the only thing missing being the BHO. If the bolt carrier is different, it would be to accomodate the BHO and not have anything to do with the mag or follower. As far as the bolt
  16. I know that you want to duplicate the SWAT sight/block but then you wouldn't have the #1 and #2 gas setting thing. I think it would be better to weld or screw on to the top of the gas block the upper peice of a sight. I think that Tromix does this and another guy on here did this one (forgot who):
  17. Isn't it possible that the follower on the new style mag comes up higher to activate the last round BHO in the swat model? Or does anyone know if it has such a BHO? If so, then to use the new mag and megwell, you would also have to add the BHO parts. But changing out the bolt and carrier - would that be necessary too?
  18. More pictures added to the auction. It looks like it is the real SWAT magwell and made of the same material as the mag. And it does pin on thru the mag release pivot pin at the rear and is rivetted in the front. http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=40205249
  19. The switch that prevents it from firing when folded is in the mind of the user. It is called "fear." (This is a joke by the way - I don't know how it works)
  20. I think it has to do with the slots. If you look at the slots on the SWAT flash hider, it has more of the look that you see on HK 91, FAL or M16 flash hiders and others, where the metal is thick and the slots are a "V" shape. S12 SWAT Flash Hider
  21. That looks pretty good even with the rough sanding. Hey, you're not building a piano. Is it as squishy as the strap on one because it looks firmer. Did I just say 'firmer strap-on'?
