  1. het dieseler, ive been thinkin about a project involving cars myself. how about a 1977 corona with an offenhauser 20r motor and tri power cylinder head? i have no idea what i am getting myself into but its because of the challange. i think 1500 horsies would be really fun, thats why im thinkin about doin it. about the saiga----i could do the conversion really easily, but i love it how it is. no modding for me(unless i get another 308)
  2. Actually there is an AK in 308. its the Yugo AKM90. Unfortunately, the mag well and trunion are way different from saigas so the mags arent interchangeable.
  3. the 308 is way longer than the standard AK round. it will not fit in the magazine. also, even if you could get a .308 to fit into a regular ak mag(which isnt possible), the magwell on the 308 rifle is also larger than the standard AK.
  4. i never heard anything about the reciever twisting during pg conversion. the ammo is most likely your problem. i asked a wholesale ammo dealer about the argentine ammo. "its nice and shiny." thats what he had to say, and told me that aussie, south african, and portuguese are 100 times better. Argentine is like the indian ammo, except it doesnt explode in your gun. griz
  5. yeah it is. what do you mean? this is the 308 forum, and i think chris meant that on this forum, by searching the different topics, you can read about other peoples' mag solutions. hope this helps griz
  6. it cannot use standard AK magazines because: 308 is 7.62x51mm-----standard AK is 7.62x39. it is a lot longer, so naturally, regular AK mags wont fit. some guys have ways to modify mags instead of the gun to make it work. Some of the guys on this forum have converted galil mags, some have swapped out galil mag parts to make the factory mags hold 12 rounds instead of 8. A guy named rick-16 was working on g3 mags a while ago. He was trying to modify them so that all you would need to do to the gun was widen out the reciever a tiny bit with a dremel. BattleRifleG3 has a mag adapter th
  7. http://catalog.jgsales.com/ they have some of both. click on "ammo for rifles" on the left side, and then click ".308 nato". its excellent stuff, and they sell at wholesale prices(but you dont have to buy wholesale) hope this helps--- griz
  8. i had the same experience. australian is excellent stuff, but i got the same results at 100 with portuguese with open sights. the portuguese will get me 1/4 inch at 100 yards out of my remington 700. thanks for the report. at least we have proof that the surlpus(most) is really excellent stuff.
  9. also, if its pics of the adapter you really want, you should pay attention to the links that brg3 has at the beginning of this topic. he has one out on display and has had one for a since January. Also, i was mistaken about this idea---battlerifleG3's project started nearly 1 year ago, and daewoo's venture started only 6 months ago. brg3 did not all of a sudden get the idea to do this when daewoo didnt come through
  10. actually battlerifleG3 didnt jump in with this when he found out about the hoax/delay. His idea and prototype came out at the same time as daewoo's idea for the mags. the part of the reciever hes talking about modding isnt endangering any part/function of the firearm. that is why he wanted to avoid cutting the trunion.
  11. good call on that one g3. if you dont want to do the work, then you dont have to criticize others on how they do the conversion. if you dont want to mod your rifle, then you dont even need to paya attention to this topic. nx468--just what is your definition of "afro engineering"
  12. he did a pin-on type flash hider and a thread adapter that could also pin on. he does really great work
  13. i heard of a trick with ak's--someone showed me how to lock the bolt open while pulling the trigger, but i didnt see how he got it indone. looked like an easy fix.
  14. hey someone needs to do a night-shoot/photo session with one of rick-16's vortex hiders. i would do it myself, but dont have any places where i can readily shoot at night.
  15. well from daewoo's posts, his mags will be enginnered and constructed better than the factory mags...ill wait for him, unless of course the factory mags come out and get very good field reports.
  16. yeah that looks like a stock for a milled reciever to me. notice that on your basic saiga stock , there are screw holes to screw the stock into the trunion from the top. there arent any holes or such extension on your thumbhole stock because milled reicevers have a completely different trunion.
  17. nice shooting! try it at 100m at a nice bright target. i was surprised that my 16" saiga 308 got me 1.75 inch groups with open sights...musta done somethin right
  18. plus, indian ammo has terrible groups--even for milsurp. portuguese, out of my remington 700 pss aics will get me .25 inch groups at 100meters. indian ammo out of the same gun gets me about a 3 1/2" to 4" at 100meters

    Help

if your rifle is already converted to PG, and you have us furniture, and you used the hammer and disconnecter from the trigger assembly, just use the old hammer. you already have more than enough US parts replaced. if not pg, and youre looking for correct parts count to use hi-caps, all you need to do is switch out one part--the easiest one is the disconnector.
  20. thanks for the tip tokageko--i didnt know about the powder coating. Ill stick to not using ammo that sticks. But anyways, wouldnt the powder thing not make sense with military ammo?? Because the ammo is gonna be shaking and moving around all th time in the field, or any kind of transport. Recoil could especially do that--bad news with an automatic weapon maybe??? i dunno...
  21. yeah south african sticks in my remington 700 but it works fine in my saiga. it was really bad in the 700--and with a short bolt you can get almost no leverage to get it out. it didnt stick as much when i tumbled the cases with a whole bunch of empty 45's, jsut so that they rubbed into eachother more and got some of the oils off. also, south african i think has softer brass, so it expands more causing it to stick in some tighter chamber rifles. try austrailian or, if you can find it, portuguese. <---really good stuff. 1/4 MOA out of my 700.
  22. yeah he did because in the pic the fcg has been moved foreward
  23. a friend of mine has a similar kalashnikov pic with his son, except the gun is a VIRGIN UNFIRED polytec legend underfolder with 100 round chinese drum.
