  1. Thanks for the continued input guys. I'm still working on really making sure the chamber is clean - I generally just run a boresnake through it and call it a day, so, I'll need to get an appropriate chamber brush to do that. Tony: I'll pick up some headspace gauges to check to see if it's good or not. I think this is something I'd feel more comfortable having a pro fix for me if it's off though. Can headspace change over time? It's so strange to me that it used to have no issues with tearing the brass like this. I'll keep my fingers crossed! Time to buy more brass ammo too and see if t
  2. Yeah, in both cases it appeared that the brass was old or worn, so perhaps that is it. I'll pay extra attention to the chamber when I clean it tomorrow as well. Thanks!
  3. Another post for the "bonus" pics: First is a spot on the right hand side rail that looks and feels raised/rough where the knife is pointing. Rather hard to make out in the picture, unfortunately. Second is the rear trunnion, because I have no earthly clue what kind of wear is normal for a .223 in this area.
  4. No, not the badass actor Rip-Torn! Rather, I seem to have developed an interesting issue with my Saiga .223. It's converted, and I'm the third owner (that I know of). I've owned it for around three years now - no clue how long the previous owners had it, or the round count they had on it. I converted it myself and I've put around 1,500 through in in my ownership of it, which is only an estimation. It's always ran like a champ for me with no issues. Recently though, I've encounter two issues that have me concerned. Most of the time I shoot steel case through it (Monarch .223 Steel, 55gr to
  5. I must reiterate - I'm just curious about this happening on an S12. Call it personal preference or what not, I just like seeing the envelopes being pushed and a variety of different mods being done by different people. I just think it would be neat to see it done. No offense to anyone who has the skill to make it happen, or has made something similar happen in the past. You've pushed the envelope too at one point or another, and that's awesome. I just think there is a lot of freedom for invention with the S12 and AK's in general, a lot of one off style of things if you will (a few members of t
  6. Indeed, the shelf is concerning. I'm also not sure what keeps the CH forward either. At any rate, I'm mostly just curious to see these run on a 12 somehow. With that said, realistically, I dont have the budget to pick one of these up any time soon. I'm mostly just thinking 'out loud' in case someone else was curious about modifying one to fit an S12.
  7. Just for giggles, I pulled the top cover off of my 223 and compared it to the one on my S12. A once over, and some - rough - measurements tell me that they are pretty similar. More or less the same length, height and width (I can't tell if the 223 cover is slightly bent or just a tad bit different in size). The ribs and angles are almost a match, with the main differences coming from the ejection port cutaway which is relieved A LOT more and the raised area the rear of the safety lever butts up against (IE: the end closer to the pivot point of the safety). On the 12, that portion is set farthe
  8. I've also been wondering what it would take to adapt too. Eventually I really want to get one to put on my S223 - it'd be awesome to be able to swap it back and forth from it to my S12. I think it's a pretty sweet idea.
  9. That is a pretty slick looking stock. What type of AR adapter are you using on it? I noticed that the AK version doesn't follow the lines of the receiver, and visually that is a deal breaker for me, but in your pics the stock seems to flow perfectly with the slant of the receiver. Looks really slick thus far - keep us posted! This could make for some really interesting looking S12's in combination with the MP5 style hand guards that Red Jacket has retrofitted in the past, in addition to HK sights. Slick!
  10. Using a chest rig is not about running around in your backyard "playing soldier" - it's just a method to readily carry spare ammunition for the weapon.
  11. To be honest, it looks more like a Butler Creek Folding stock chopped or converted to fit. The frame looks a lot thinner and bent differently than the Beryl stock. To me at least. The buttpad looks nearly identical too. I have one one on my Mini-14.
  12. JT Engineering has a Magwell that will accept Drums and Sticks. According to what I've read on his sub-forum here, he isn't sure if he is going to market it or not. I know I'd pick one up!
  13. Agreed that it was a bad representation of the S-12. We've all seen the videos of someone who has practice and knowledge of the gun dump 20 rounds quickly and not deviate from the target. Just because he doesn't know how to keep the thing on target does not mean that it's somehow outclassed by the AA-12. Also, most of us can't, and never will be able to own the AA. Also... I agree, why the heck would he only use 5 rounders? >_< His lax attitude of safety did finally get someone hurt... I hope it's the last time.
  14. Mine has treated me fine, other than the same cleaning kit binding issue. It'll get stuck every now and then. If it does get stuck, banging the butt of the stock down onto the floor unsticks it with no issue.
  15. Curiosity begs the question: Where is the safety on this thing? Is it some kind of push button modification, left side mounted AR thumb switch style, completely removed, or what?
