  1. Thanks for the continued input guys. I'm still working on really making sure the chamber is clean - I generally just run a boresnake through it and call it a day, so, I'll need to get an appropriate chamber brush to do that. Tony: I'll pick up some headspace gauges to check to see if it's good or not. I think this is something I'd feel more comfortable having a pro fix for me if it's off though. Can headspace change over time? It's so strange to me that it used to have no issues with tearing the brass like this. I'll keep my fingers crossed! Time to buy more brass ammo too and see if t
  2. Yeah, in both cases it appeared that the brass was old or worn, so perhaps that is it. I'll pay extra attention to the chamber when I clean it tomorrow as well. Thanks!
  3. Another post for the "bonus" pics: First is a spot on the right hand side rail that looks and feels raised/rough where the knife is pointing. Rather hard to make out in the picture, unfortunately. Second is the rear trunnion, because I have no earthly clue what kind of wear is normal for a .223 in this area.
  4. No, not the badass actor Rip-Torn! Rather, I seem to have developed an interesting issue with my Saiga .223. It's converted, and I'm the third owner (that I know of). I've owned it for around three years now - no clue how long the previous owners had it, or the round count they had on it. I converted it myself and I've put around 1,500 through in in my ownership of it, which is only an estimation. It's always ran like a champ for me with no issues. Recently though, I've encounter two issues that have me concerned. Most of the time I shoot steel case through it (Monarch .223 Steel, 55gr to
  5. I must reiterate - I'm just curious about this happening on an S12. Call it personal preference or what not, I just like seeing the envelopes being pushed and a variety of different mods being done by different people. I just think it would be neat to see it done. No offense to anyone who has the skill to make it happen, or has made something similar happen in the past. You've pushed the envelope too at one point or another, and that's awesome. I just think there is a lot of freedom for invention with the S12 and AK's in general, a lot of one off style of things if you will (a few members of t
  6. Indeed, the shelf is concerning. I'm also not sure what keeps the CH forward either. At any rate, I'm mostly just curious to see these run on a 12 somehow. With that said, realistically, I dont have the budget to pick one of these up any time soon. I'm mostly just thinking 'out loud' in case someone else was curious about modifying one to fit an S12.
  7. Just for giggles, I pulled the top cover off of my 223 and compared it to the one on my S12. A once over, and some - rough - measurements tell me that they are pretty similar. More or less the same length, height and width (I can't tell if the 223 cover is slightly bent or just a tad bit different in size). The ribs and angles are almost a match, with the main differences coming from the ejection port cutaway which is relieved A LOT more and the raised area the rear of the safety lever butts up against (IE: the end closer to the pivot point of the safety). On the 12, that portion is set farthe
  8. I've also been wondering what it would take to adapt too. Eventually I really want to get one to put on my S223 - it'd be awesome to be able to swap it back and forth from it to my S12. I think it's a pretty sweet idea.
  9. That is a pretty slick looking stock. What type of AR adapter are you using on it? I noticed that the AK version doesn't follow the lines of the receiver, and visually that is a deal breaker for me, but in your pics the stock seems to flow perfectly with the slant of the receiver. Looks really slick thus far - keep us posted! This could make for some really interesting looking S12's in combination with the MP5 style hand guards that Red Jacket has retrofitted in the past, in addition to HK sights. Slick!
  10. Using a chest rig is not about running around in your backyard "playing soldier" - it's just a method to readily carry spare ammunition for the weapon.
  11. To be honest, it looks more like a Butler Creek Folding stock chopped or converted to fit. The frame looks a lot thinner and bent differently than the Beryl stock. To me at least. The buttpad looks nearly identical too. I have one one on my Mini-14.
  12. JT Engineering has a Magwell that will accept Drums and Sticks. According to what I've read on his sub-forum here, he isn't sure if he is going to market it or not. I know I'd pick one up!
  13. Agreed that it was a bad representation of the S-12. We've all seen the videos of someone who has practice and knowledge of the gun dump 20 rounds quickly and not deviate from the target. Just because he doesn't know how to keep the thing on target does not mean that it's somehow outclassed by the AA-12. Also, most of us can't, and never will be able to own the AA. Also... I agree, why the heck would he only use 5 rounders? >_< His lax attitude of safety did finally get someone hurt... I hope it's the last time.
  14. Mine has treated me fine, other than the same cleaning kit binding issue. It'll get stuck every now and then. If it does get stuck, banging the butt of the stock down onto the floor unsticks it with no issue.
  15. Curiosity begs the question: Where is the safety on this thing? Is it some kind of push button modification, left side mounted AR thumb switch style, completely removed, or what?
  16. @DK Thanks for the video. What optic mount is that? Almost looks like the top of a quad rail... IMHO the lack of a trigger guard isn't much of an issue. The AUG, FAMAS G2, KH2002, Tavor, and SAR 21 use a hand guard instead of the trigger guard and don't seem to have suffered any ill effect.
  17. I've entertained the idea of a magwell before, and may still go that route to gain some of its advantages. Honestly though, while it just takes practive, I've never really had any issues attempting to load mine on a closed bolt. It's tough, but remember that this thing is built like a brick and sometimes you just need to be rough with it to get it to do what you want. It is, 'Strong, like bull' /cheesy russian accent. Welcome to the forum! You'll find all you need here!
  18. Totally understand that the guy must be busy as hell. With that said tho... I'm sure it would make A LOT of folks feel better to see him post a tiny bit of a update here so we could know what's been going on with MD Arms! Wish the best for him, and want to see all of his future products come to market. Just hope things are well for him.
  19. I honeslty don't think I've spent more than $325 on mine for mags, and conversion parts. Then again my S12 is plane jane utilitarian - no neat doodads or tacticoolness. Thats not to say I don't want any of that cool stuff, but I don't have the cash to sink into it yet and I've had it since '09. I totally would have dropped $500 on this thing by now If I had the funds! Sooo want a Chaos Tri, krebs sights, a muzzle device, a new stock, a weapon mounted light, maybe a magwell, an autoplug, AFG, pauly's glass bolt treatment, and and and....Well, the list goes on, LOL. I think the S12 is attra
  20. Yeah, it seems like there will be no shortage of Quadstacks in the market - now there are options for the AR and the AK. Pretty neat. Of course, Mike's will probably blow away the competion.
  21. Oh god, I would LOVE a Bizon. I hope someone eventually can assemble them from a demilled parts kit or something. That would be be beautiful!
  22. Eh, the whole "FFL" thing was just posted on another forum I frequent. A lot of folks there don't care for SOG, so a lot of "I wish the FCC would revoke them from the Air! blah blah blah" comments were made. The bottomline to me is that any "information" obtained from TMZ should not be used as the end all be all of truth, . Keep up the good work Will. While some folks of the firearm community might not support you, I think you're doing a good thing for us!
  23. If you have the T6 non-conversion stock: the STOCK will work afterwards still, but the pistol grip will not without modification(I have not modified the grip, but have heard of folks doing it). I had the T6 stock before I converted, and it's still wearing it now. It's not fancy and the LOP can be ridiculously long if you extend it all the way out (I guess that could be a plus for some folks), but it works OK if you can't drop the coin for an new stock.
  24. I dig the $99 price point you have set for the glass bolt. When I save up the cash, I definitely want to send my parts out for the service. On the other hand though, I don't really feel like I want or need work done to the trigger on my S12, so wouldn't really dig the service including that (Even if it is at a nice price). In my situaiton (unemployed and money is tight), when I get cash and can afford something at a specific price point I go for it. I definitely say offer the service for the additional cost - while I wouldn't really want the service on my S12, I have a crunchy and downrigh
  25. I've never had any issues with my 223. It does dent the hell out of the cases, but I normally shoot cheap steel cased Monarch out of it anyway. If you don't replace the stock handguard, it gets HOT very quickly. If there are specific issues folks are starting to see more, I'd like to hear what they are (just so I can look out for them!). I hear you about having the same manual of arms with the S12, thats why I dig my 223.
