  1. yes they are. get one it's only money so you might as well enjoy life with the things you want. well, that's my philosophy anyways. and now chambered in 9mm, it's not dependent on foreign ammo imports!!!!!!! which is a SUPER PLUS!!!!!!!!! the next best thing is it isn't all that hard or very difficult to make the stock functional after getting the ATF approval. it took me like 1/2 hour or less when I did my 7.62x25 PPS 43. with a stock it makes the gun A LOT MORE pleasurable and enjoyable to shoot
  2. hey guys, I picked up the 9mm PPS43 from my FFL yesterday, (100 percent made at the RADOM factory in Poland) the only issue I had with it was when I opened up the accessory box, it had a oiler and the cleaning rod, the handle of it is a elevation tool for the front sight, but no mags, suppose to come with 2, which are modified by adding a spacer inside to take up the extra space for the 9x19. oh well, stuff happens, just gave a call to IO and the customer service guy apologized and said they will be sending me the mags it's nicely blue, nicely riveted and parts are all new, has the
  3. the only thing I can come up with that might need to be replaced on a SAIGA rifle would be the barrel, bolt, extractor, firing pin and possibly the carrier, from being worn out after few 10,000s of thousands of rounds. all the other components, unless you go and fiddle them, ie hacking on them to "improve" it or break them unintentional by hacking on them to "improve" it, they will out last you
  4. that makes sense what you said there, but no matter how you slice it he won't be fondling, shooting etc... for about a year and a half. and I'm not counting the time how long it will take the SOT to get around to it. he might get it by next christmas S12 is one of the easiest things to SBS, providing you don't go making the barrel so short that you have to move the sight block back drill new ports etc.. it took me a whole 4 minutes to do mine, everything else was already in place, jI just cut the barrel to 13 inches
  5. boy oh boy, the way you did that it's like going from PA. to W.Va. by way of Ca. you've made it a lot, lot longer for yourself and a bit more expensive what you should have did was Form 1 to make it a SBS, wait the 9 or so months for the approval send then it off to have it made into a SBS and it would be sent direct back to you. the route you took, you sent a shotgun to a SOT to make it a SBS, when he completes that he has to transfer the SBS on a form 3 (tax free transfer) to a "class 3" dealer near you, which could take 4, 5 or more months for the transfer approval. then when the
  6. the politics of guns swings so wildly here in this country, that I don't blame them one bit for not opening a factory here. what could be good to go one year ( selling "evil guns") in a few years may not be. then where will they be? a factory with products they won't be able to sell. unlike other gun manufacturers here who can fall back on selling their products to LE, Gov't entities, etc... none of those agencies will be buying AKs.
  7. ah, boys you do realize that TULA, manufacturer of WOLF .... isn't just a ammunition manufacturer, at least I hope you didn't , but they also make small arms etc.... what's that mean boys? lets hear it, let the panic buying begin
  8. most all the 74 mags that came into this country were East Germany, that country no longer exist, now it could be they're isn't any more left I bought so many of those mags because they were 5 bucks a pop, that I was surprised how much I bought. I can sell like 3 or 4, at todays "market price" and get all my money back of what I spent on them
  9. well, not really phonebooks, but it's about as exciting. the mail man just dropped off my SUMOI drums and some PPS43 stick mags. now to go down to my basement, because that's where all the magic happens and make some 9mm PPS 43 drums
  10. well yeah, that is no surprise for anyone that the surplus 7n6 is expensive, it's because they put a ban on any further importation. so what is in the country is all there is, and has been point out, it's supply and demand. however, you can still find WOLF and other brands of 5.45, ATLANTIC has 1200 rounds of WOLF for 325 shipped! that break down to 27 cents a round.
  11. thanks the LULA and the PRO-MAG BETA CO style loader are alright, but it's still a one at a time tedious method. like I said most all my 5.56 is on stripper clips, have to get more stripper clips to load the rest . I wanted to have something where I could use them on my 5.56 AK mags, I modified another BETA speed loader for my HK33 mags, so there was no reason why I couldn't try my hand on the AK. no such things like that exist in the market, HK and AK 5.56 stripper clip loaders, so I figured I'll see if I can modify a BETA speed loader. you know that saying, nothing ventured
  12. here are a few pictures of the modified base of the loader, the back notch and the cutting out of the front is easy. what takes the most time, and well worth the time IMO,is shaving the inside of the base. I would say that about 1/2 of the thickness has to shaved off on all 3 inside sides, as well as you will have to "flatten" the top part so that the AK mag sits flush there, if you get one and look inside you'll know what I mean, the top inside is rounded over. theAK mag has to sit flush up there with the stripper clip ledge. if you look at the bottom picture and left, you will see
  13. BETA CO. has them for $19.50 plus shipping. here is a the un-linked website, it's the 3rd one down. www.betaco.com/cmag_product_details.asp now the Chinese company NcStar makes a copy of that, and I believe it's cheaper, but I decided to spend my money on a US made product
  14. man, I hate loading rounds one at a time in a mag. and those loading gizmos are no better, to me anyways, it's still one at a time, but now you're manipulating some lever. when I go to the range I want to spend a good percentage of my time shooting rather then loading magazine. well, having just about all my 5.56 on stripper clips for my AR15, I was eyeballing the BETA CO. AR15 speed loader and see what I could do to this where it will fit over a 5.56 AK mag, I have a Bulgarian SLR 106 so that is a Bulgarian 5.56 mag. well, a lot of shaving of the inside of base to thin it out an
  15. well here is my 2 cents, buy what you like, not what anyone says you should or shouldn't. asking for a consensus on what you should or shouldn't buy is never the way to go.
  16. best way to attach a muzzle device is one of two ways, 1) thread the barrel 2) have it silver solder or blind pined on. both of those methods you can be absolutely certain without any degree of doubt the muzzle device will stay on the barrel. those gimmicky set screw ones is just a projectile waiting to be launched you can if you want thread the barrel yourself, using the tools that was linked. but unless you plan to do several barrels where you would need them every time, it's simply not financially viable. send it off to have the barrel threaded or find a local gunsmith
  17. OK, lets be realistic here, for you guys that are commenting on the durability of surplus mags in a conflict vs. the TAPCO mags that were made for the average shooter that owns a "AKM wannabe", that means all of us here on the board. you're trying to stuff a elephant in a grocery bag with that. not one of you will never, and I mean NEVER, be in any position in your life or your children's life where you will subject that magazine to the rigors and abuse of a combat zone the most abuse that TAPCO mag will ever see, or for that matter your surplus mag, in any abusive situation,
  18. it has the same effect as peeing on yourself wearing dark pants; it will give you a warm feeling but nobody will notice.
  19. oppps, "my bad" boy, did I "step on it", thought it was about mags. only person on this thread that is confused; is me , carry on. yes I am a little high on my luck. it happens so few, few times that if I have any good luck I'm stupefied
  20. factory HK33 25 round mags (5.56mm) sell at the low end 50-60 bucks ea. in the condition I bought those to 80-85 bucks for new ones. why so expensive? well they're HK, show me anything that is factory HK; firearms, parts, pistol mags, accessories, posters, calendars, etc.... besides the HK91 mag, that isn't expensive and stupidity priced. just for shits and giggles go to HKPARTS.COM and just look at the prices on HK stuff. BTW, just to give you a historical lesson; back in 97 or so those aluminum HK91 mags were going for around 50-60 bucks a pop, yeah hard to believe since you can buy t
  21. I help a friend at the local gunshows, after uncovering the tables this morning we do what all vedors/dealers do before the show opens to the public we wander around. I do it mostly for socializing and catching up on what everybodys been doing. today was no exception as I was walking by a "junk table", you know the guy who has bits an pieces of firearm parts, military accouterments etc... something caught my eye near the back of the table, so I stopped to look, it was 2 steel HK mags. so I picked one up and it was a steel 25 round HK33 mag. curious I asked what he is asking for it, fig
  22. if they are, they will be for commercial sales only, unless they designed the aluminum mag to be as sturdy as the current production M16 mag, I really don't see the Russian military issuing these to troops. they tried it with the aluminum AKM "waffle" mag in the 80s in Afghanistan, and it was a resounding failure, mag was easily dented. dented mag bodies are not conducive for feed rounds. of course to be fair, the aluminum AKM mag was really, really thin. about the same thickness as the HK33 40 rounder, which was a resounding failure for the Germans, same problem, easily dented. we also h
