  1. I've been considering getting a compact 9mm, and had narrowed it down to a Ruger LC9. From what I have heard/read they have gotten very good reviews. The only gripe I have heard about them is the long, deliberate trigger pull, but that's pretty minor to me. However, I saw the SCCY CPX2 9mm on the AIM website today. I've never even heard of this gun, much less the company who makes it. It's a nice looking pistol, but that is pretty much all I know about it. It comes with 2 mags, the LC9 1 mag. Anyone here who owns or has shot both of these pistols. Help me decide. Thanks in advance.
  2. -Disassemble mags -Slowly, but liberally, pour boiling hot water over all mag parts. Cosmo will melt off like butter. -Thoroughly dry all mag parts with paper towel -Reassemble mags
  3. I have an SGL-20. Aren't these supposed to be the same rifles the Russian military currently issues their troops, only in fully-auto and 5.45 instead of 7.62 ? (SGL-31) I would think if they are using these guns for full-auto fire, they should plenty robust for civilian semi-auto fire. Still, I don't like the idea of thinner receivers/barrels to reduce weight and production costs at the risk of them not holding up or wearing out faster. That's just plain stupid if you ask me. I don't mind if the rifles are a little heavier, who cares.
  4. Not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, but here goes..... I'm just curious why some of the newer AK variants (AK-103,Saigas,etc.) use skinnier barrels than the original AK-47/AKM ? Is it to lower production costs by using less steel ? (AK are already cheap to produce) I mean what other purpose could using a skinnier barrel serve ? (kind of seems like a negative to me) Random question, I know, just wondering. Thanks in advance.
  5. Have you tried any 7.62x39 ? I imagine the results would be similar to the .308, just with less punch of course. Is that 1/4" steel ?
  6. Anybody use Google Checkout ? Not as widely accepted as PP, just a thought.
  7. I have being using PP for a while now. I use them exclusvely for Ebay, well, because that's the only option.(almost anyway) My account with them has always been linked to just a credit/debit card and not my actual bank account that they ask you for in order to become "verified". Well, now my "sending limit" is going down with each purchase I make through them. I'm just not comfortable at all giving them my bank account info. IIRC, PP has been hacked in the past and that certainly doesn't help set my mind at ease one bit. Suggestions ? Thanks in advance.
  8. Does anyone here know if the Hogue AK overmolded handguard will fit or if it can modded to fit an S-12 ? I'm thinking of ordering one for my AK rifle, might order one for my S-12 if it will work. Thanks in advance.
  9. Remember also that .308 ammo cost considerably more than 7.62x39. If it was closer to the same price, I would be all over a S-308.
  10. Did some trimming on the retaining plate, and a bit more on the BHO and FINALLY got the bleepity bleep thing to go in.
  11. I ordered some stuff for my S-12 from him. Good communication and received items quickly. Great guy to do business with. Of course, everyone here alreadly knows that.
  12. I've tried and tried and for the life of me I just cannot get this thing to go in. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, I don't know. I installed the hammer and spring first, then the FCG, and the selector last. I put the selector leg (?) through the right side of the receiver.( I cut a notch in the BHO to make this easier) I get the selector leg through the hole in the retaining plate, but can't get it through the one in the receiver because it sits slightly lower. So I push down on the selector leg as hard as I can while at same time pushing inward on the selector from the opposite side of the rece
  13. I'd wait until I had access to a drill press and vice. While conversions aren't all that difficult, a drill press would definitely make things go much smoother. Just my .02
  14. The 74 brakes are quite effective at reducing muzzle climb, so long as it's a real 74 brake and not a 74 style brake. The former having offset port holes, the latter having inline ones.(Dinzag's website explains this) As far as reducing recoil, it doesn't really reduce it as much as it "redirects" it, from up and back to down and back, into your shoulder. Hope this helps.
  15. Update - I did some more scrubbing - it appears that most of that was indeed just residue that needed harder scrubbing to remove. I still see a spot that looks a little off in color compared to the rest of the barrel, but, it's definitely not as bad as it looked before. It was probably just lead fouling from the slugs. Sometimes you got give the barrel a thorough scrubbing after using them, buckshot aren't so bad. I would try what TARE mentioned.
  16. I have a converted IZ-109 with a K-VAR Warsaw buttstock and was wondering if anyone can recommend an effective recoil pad that would fit that stock. I was looking at the ones made by FSE USA and No Kick. Anybody ever use these recoil pads ? They look like they would be effective, but might add a little too much to the LOP for my taste, I don't know. Here is the pad made by FSE, the No Kick one is basically the same design. Thanks in advance for any input.
  17. I've got an IZ-109 and I'm considering getting a Polychoke for it. Just wondering if you guys think one is necessary for a HD/SHTF gun. I might also be doing some hunting with it here and there, but not much. Thanks in advance for any input.
  18. For all the things you mentioned you would use it for, I would go 7.62.
  19. That is scary. France (government) has no one but themselves to blame for allowing BS like this to happen. The same thing is slowly but surely happening on U.S. soil as well.
  20. Nice work, looks great ! Another AK has been freed from it's sporterized prison.
  21. KC913, You're going to love the way the M57 shoots. It's has some pop for sure, but the recoil is not unpleasant at all, and it's also quite accurate. Please keep us posted on how you manage to change out the recoil spring. I tried locking the slide back and punching out the top pin on the guide rod like you mentioned, but it too looks like it's peened in. I gave it several good whacks, but it wouldn't budge. I didn't want to bang on it too much and risk bending/breaking the guide rod. I might just have to drill it out, install the new recoil spring, then re-peen it.
