  1. When I want my money to go somewhere useful, I write a check to the 2nd Amendment Foundation. NRA leaves us New Jerseyans out to dry. If you are in an anti-gun state, they don't bother with you.
  2. Even if all this crap dies down and the ATF does nothing, prices will never go back down to the $500 range. And the manufacturer saw the prices people are willing to pay, and upped it's price to distributors. There isn't enough inventory out there for the market to be flooded and allow the hoarders/gougers to take the bath they deserve. It's hard to swallow that $650 is a good price for a Saiga12 now.

    Patternmaster

I know this isn't the brand/model you mentioned, but I don't know if you are aware of it. I put on the Polychoke II on my uncoverted (because I live in retarded NJ) Saiga 12. It uses the existing threads on the end of the barrel. I blue loctited the threads and screwed it on. I have yet to fully test the patterns, but it does produce noticeably different patterns on X-Full versus Cylinder setting.
  4. Why would you have to unload them? He said if they banned importation, not declared them a DD. If they only banned importation you and everyone else would still be able to keep them. Now if they declared them a DD, then everything changes. Oops. You are correct. I am so used to the worst case scenario threads (DD - in which case I would have to sell, or move) that I automatically went there. Banned importation would suck, but hopefully a domestic manufacturer would see the profit potential and make something just as good.
  5. I would say not at first, because people like me that live in shitty states like New Jersey will have to unload their Saiga12s in a hurry if that ruling passes. I would guess that a whole bunch of Saiga12's will hit the market at once if this comes to pass.
  6. I guess you probably are talking about the round button. But there is another thin tab sticking out. What purpose does this serve? The poorly translated manual by Russian is most confusing. Here, in the picture bellow. Sorry, I should've read the title better. My response was for Saigas that don't have the part shown in blue. My Saiga only has the part in Red. It is a bolt catch. Pull the bolt all the way back then press that button up into the frame. The bolt will remain locked back. To release the bolt, pull it back a little. The button will automatically descend from the frame an
  7. It is really a bolt catch. Pull the handle all the way back, then puch the button. The bolt should remain locked to the rear about 90%. Put in a loaded mag, then pull the handle back a tiny bit and let it fly forward. It is not a LRBHO, but rather just a BHO that needs to be manually activated. My Saiga will not allow me to fit a loaded magazine into the mag well with the bolt forward. The BHO is needed to load the new mag. I have Pauly's Glass Bolt coming in the mail soon, so this shouldn't be a problem any more.
  8. Run a few boxes of buck or slugs to break the gun in before you start running birdshot through it. They will help break it in.
  9. Good info. I knew they were no good on AK rifles. Didn't know they were good on shotties.
  10. If it is anything like the AK rifle dust cover mounted rear sights I have seen, no. I don't see how you couldn't lose zero after a bit of shooting.
  11. I agree. I have put 200 slugs and 200 rounds of 00 buckshot through my Saiga. It now cycles 7 1/2 and 8 birdshot well on gas setting 1(with an occasional misfeed), and like a champ on gas setting 2. I usually stick with setting 1at the range because it beats the gun up less and a misfeed doesn't really hurt me or the gun. If I were competing or bird hunting with it, I would put it on 2.
  12. A lot of recoil has to do with how you are shouldering a gun. Just think if you had a friend stand a foot away from you and punch you in the shoulder. It would hurt like a mother. Now have the friend stand so close that his fist starts out an inch away from your shoulder. Even if he generates the same force, it hurts a lot less. Stick that stock as into the crook of your shoulder as tight as you can manage. I guarantee that will reduce the felt recoil. If it's still too much, you might want to pull a few maxi-pads from your purse and put them between the stock and your shoulder.
  13. The hardest part (and mostly psychological) is taking a Dremel to your working rifle. After that, it's cake. You'll see!
  14. My mechanical skills are very moderate, and I had it done in two hours (maybe even less). I used this video and ordered the conversion kit from Carolina Shooters Supply.
  15. I'm in the same sad boat. Have fun hunting. Bring two five rounders. You can swap 'em out pretty fast. I can't see you needing both for one pig unless he makes you miss a lot with tactical evasion techniques.
  16. Is this humor or douchebaggery? It's often hard to tell the intent of a forum post. Hoping it's humor.

    I'm new

I am in your boat with a new Saiga 12, except I have to keep it in the original configuration because of retarded New Jersey gun laws. I am proceeding slowly since the gun works well in its stock form. I bought a poly-choke and a 2 round magazine so I can try it out when I go for pheasant in the next week or two. I also bought the MD plug. I will be trying it out tomorrow with a variety of ammo. I figure if it doesn't work well, I have spent $25 on stupider things. Unless I were to send the gun out to be professionally finished, I would want to only have one variable at a time to think about.
  18. If only I lived in a free state where I could own a shotgun magazine greater than five rounds.
  19. Your tinfoil hat is on too tight, asshat. I haven't made the jump from a Saiag-12 not being allowed to be imported in the future because it's reclassified as non-sporting, to it being confiscated as NFA.
  20. I do complete high performance rebuilds of factory guns. No pistol grip, but they run like a scalded ape with the reduced trigger pull, and all of the high performance Saiga goodness of my tactical builds. I have a client in NY who uses his Lone Star Arms "Super Sporter" for three gun. He says it shoots circles around Benellis, and absolutely smokes the competition. Far too much is made of the pistol grip in states like NJ, NY, and California (and elsewhere for that matter). It isn't necessary for a top performing gun to have a pistol grip or a forward located fire control group. The fixa
  21. It is questionable. I know folks have gotten opinions from the State Police firearms unit saying it is OK, but since nothing is in writing, it is a gray area. That is the problem with NJ firearms laws, way too much room for interpretation. While California's are worse than ours, at least they are clearly delineated. Here there is so much confusion over the laws that I would venture to guess most police officers couldn't tell you what really is or isn't legal.
  22. Here in Jersey, AutoLoading shotguns with pistol grips are considered Assault Weapons. Yes, I know that's retarded. Seeing as how I am stuck here for the immediate future, I would like to make the most of my soon-to-arrive Saiga-12. The only parts I was planning on buying immediately are the poly-choke and the two round magazine so I can use it next time I go for pheasant. I would make changes over time. I want to get a feel for the gun in its stock configuration before I start worrying about functional modifications. It seems that most of the accessories are for converted Saigas. Knowin
