  1. Nice job! It looks really good, and I know you must be proud of your new baby. For the muzzle brake, you have a few options. I will list the ones I know.... 1. You can remove the shroud at the end of the Saiga FSB and thread the barrell. This will require you purchase a 14x1 LH Die ($32), a die starter ($7), and a die handle ($15). You can get everything at cncwarrior and I believe dinzag, and there are plenty of youtube videos to show you how to do it. I have never done this, but I believe it is pretty straightforward. Once you thread the barrell, you screw on your muzzle brake with a cru
  2. 4 pmags that I was going to give my Bro-in-law for Christmas....got him something else. 10 pack of pmags 10 pack of AK mags (Polish) 1000 rnds of 7.62 WPA SP 2 stripped lowers Some Magpul stuff 16" midlength upper I bought all this a day or two after Sandy Hook. Wish I had bought more....especially the pmags.
  3. Wow. This is really sad. I agree with another poster....feel bad for your guys. It just ain't right, and I would be patient. Lawsuits will be filed and injunctions will be granted. Wait until the very last second if you can.
  4. I spit my Dr. Pepper everywhere when I looked at those screen shots. Thanks for posting those Dr. Thunder. Made my day!
  5. If you don't want to or feel comfortable moving the trigger group forward, there are buttstocks out there with a pistol grip that just screw on to the receiver. I think Tapco makes one, but finding it now might be difficult. That being said, I would highly recommend moving the trigger, or having a smith do it for you. You will not regret it, and your buttstock/PG options are just about limitless.
  6. Good luck Dubya. It is alot of fun, and when you are done you will think you missed or forgot something because it really is that easy. And like Chevyman mentioned, you will know that part of your rifle very well, and will be able to fix just about anything that goes wrong with it in the future.
  7. You can get the hole plugs at Lowes. They are actually better quality than the ones from CSS. Cost about $1 for a two pack.
  8. This ^^^^^^^^^is why I don't have experience with them.
  9. Yeah, my x39 has a round one also. I would love to answer your question about the mag and 922, but I don't think even the ATF knows the answer to that question. The "safe" thing to do is make sure you have enough without the mag. I am guessing that evetually you will convert the magwell to accept the evil high cap mags, at which case you will need other parts to account for 922 compliance.
  10. Just be careful when you cut off the FSB. The shroud is not as thick as it looks. Nicking the barrell is okay as it will be covered up by the new FSB. Creating trenches in the barrell not a good idea. I have to cut off the FSB? I thought it slips or hammered off. Any vids of this procedure? It is possible that you could hammer yours off, but I doubt it. It really is not that big of a deal to cut one off, especially if you have a dremel. Just takes a few minutes to cut through the shroud and FSB on each side, then bang it off with a mallet. It should land on the floor in two pieces. I was p
  11. I ordered 1000 rounds of WPA SP's about 3 weeks ago from Sportsman Guide. It was on backorder, with expected availability March 2013. It came in last week, so who knows what the actual availability is. Mine took 10 days total. If I were the OP, I would put in an order for whatever I wanted and see if it comes in. Even if it takes a few weeks or months, you are getting it at the best price around right now (by far). The OP is well stocked. I was just sharing the info that ammo was available at the time for whomever may be quick enough.
  12. Yes when the last AWB happened people freaked out and prices shot up. Eventually prices came down and stuff got better. Remember that during the AWB was when you were able to get SAR-1s for under 350... Right now about 40% of Izshmash's production is going to the USA so I imagine Putin is already talking to Obama about that. Putin is a supporter of Izshmash and he knows that the market in the USA is helping keep the company propped up. This ^^^^ I fully expect the Saigas and VEPRs will continue to flow into the US. Izshmash has had some restructuring problems recently, but they wi
  13. I have seen the quick detach mount offered at PA, but I cant remember what it was offered on. I have no experience at all with quick detach mounts. Sorry.
  14. If you want a "shorter" foregrip (handguard), then you just need to change out the gas tube. It really is simple. Buy an AK 74 gas tube and some type of handguard retainer (there are several options in this....Dinzag has a good one, as does CSS). After you change out the gas tube and install the handguard retainer, just about any AK furniture will work. If you do remove the saiga gas tube, dont forget to remove the bolt assembly first.
  15. Regarding wood furniture....If you are going to do wood on the AK, I highly recommend Ironwood and Combloc Customs. You can order your wood through Combloc Customs and he will have it shipped from Ironwood to him. He will stain it whatever color you choose, then ship it to you. And he is awesome at what he does. I have a set of Combloc Red furniture on my Saiga, and I could not be happier. You are looking at about $200-250 for the wood and the staining, but it is well worth it IMHO.
  16. When you select a PA optic, you can choose which mount you want. For example, on my AR15 midlenght, I chose the high cantilever mount because that is what works best on that platform. With the AK, I have just the regular mount that is built into the bottom of the optic. I have three PA dots, one on an AR, one on the converted Saiga, and one on a M&P 15-22. When you go to their site, the first three on the red dot store page are three I own. I love all three of them, but the third one on the page is my favorite. https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_MultiReticle_Red_Dot_Sigh
  17. Wow...last January I picked one up for $500 less at J&G. Saw a mini draco there for 1K more than I paid too. Yeah, prices are retarded right now. Time to hold and wait.....
  18. Agreed, but wanted to share in case someone was looking.

  20. I highly recommend Primary Arms. They are based out of Pearland, Texas, and really have a quality product. I was skeptical of a dot for less than $100, so I tried one out on my M&P 15-22. Then tried one on an AR, and now I have one on my Saiga 7.62. They really are good optics, and you can choose your mount and order it all for less than $200.
  21. Wow. I have a whole list I wish I could send you while you are there
  22. Man I hope you are right. I am still kicking myself for not buying the IZ340 when it was $450. I can wait a couple of years for the 5.45 I want.
  23. IMHO, there will be some type of universal background check passed, making private sales a bit tricky. I could see Obama banning Russian ammo and imports (Saigas), and he could probably do that through EO. I also think 30 round mags and higher will be banned. They are asking for 10 rounders, and I think a compromise will be reached at 20 rounders. This may be wishful thinking, but I do not think assault weapons will be banned. We will see what happens, but this government may make my stash very valuable.
  24. Sad.....just sad I remember when finding a box of euro surplus for 4 bucks a piece at a gun show was a good deal. And that wasn't THAT long ago.
