  1. With the ejection problems you won't be able to test right now, but when it is sorted out there is one more thing to check. When the gun runs smoothly, try really fast rapid fire with the drum. It is the problem that may arise from reducing spring tension. The drum may not be able to feed fast enough when set this way. May work just fine. Check it out and see.
  2. Use a double hook trigger and follow the advice for trigger jobs from the link of GunFun's signature in post #4. Those links should all enlighten you a great deal. Enjoy!
  3. STOP YELLING AT US!!! STOP YELLING AT US!!! My eyes are ringing... It is a great mod. They SHOULD do it at the factory. Just be careful not to take much at all off the chamber. While you are at it, polish (remove no material) the face of the extractor and make sure the extractor moves easily in its slot in the bolt. Sometimes the extractor spring hole is not drilled properly and sometimes the extractor rubs the side of the slot in the bolt. These things are not necessary on most guns, but they can help with feeding and extraction issues. Happy shooting!
  4. Why don't you tell us... If you are using a double hook trigger, as you should, I bet the trigger wouldn't pull all the way... If that is the case, look up member GunFun and check his sig line. It shows how to fit a double hook trigger. Probably didn't cut the hump off in front of the hammer's rotational axis... Edited to correct spelling. Hate speling erors... Doh!!!
  5. Lol. Touché I only own a Saiga, and I love it so much I couldn't give a flip about the Akdal. Wish I could give a balanced opinion. Seems I have seen people who own both discussing them somewhere. May not have been this forum (they were discussing three gun). I want to say it was the Brian Enos forum shotgun section. I remember the Saiga won the discussion. Good luck in your quest, and welcome to the forum! Post pics when you get your Saiga 12.
  6. Ever driven to a Toyota dealership to ask if you should buy a Chevrolet?
  7. ^^^^ Better, more patient man than I...
  8. As I posted in another recent thread: What ammo? What puck? What gas regulator? What regulator setting? Does it cycle high power loads? On which setting? What mags? ***Small amount of info gets you a small amount of help... List everything about the system that is not as it was from the factory. I'm no expert, but you will need to supply a more clear understanding of what you are dealing with.
  9. Don't suppose you loaded up a 15 round drum and duct taped it to a stick mag to see if you can duplicate the failure??? Also, separately try zip-tying a block of foam or wood in place behind the latch to physically block the latch while rapid-firing drums. Let us know when you find anything new. Good luck!
  10. Was this being developed with retail in mind or a personal project?
  11. Do you know how the HD rod was fastened? Who did it? Sorry about your trouble! I HOPE to prevent that on mine...
  12. What? You don't believe pea gravel is real??? Never underestimate the power of gravel. If a boy can use a piece to kill a nearly ten foot tall hardened warrior-giant, a piece could easily stop up a Saiga 12...
  13. Those ports are not necessarily undersized. What ammo? What puck? What gas regulator? What regulator setting? What happens when it doesn't cycle? Has any other work been done at all? Does it cycle high power loads? On which setting?
  14. Is there room for an articulated cover on the outside of the dust cover? Same idea as the nesting cones that form the plastic guard around the base of the piston a cheap pneumatic desk chair. Would look something like dragon scales over the opening. Shield pieces could be Bakelite or Delrin, since they only have to deflect loose debris. Would have to rivet on an exterior guide rod (small music wire) above the travel of the charging handle for alignment of the pieces and link the front piece to the charging handle... It would be a lot of work to develop, but it would work if executed we
  15. Put short blonde, spiky hair on it and you have my aunt... Blehhhh. OP: So what size are your ports? Factory puck or after market?
  16. +1 to fitting them. No one likes loose mags. You know what's worse than loose mags??? NO MAGS. FWIW, my 2011 seems pretty flat. Can't wait to spend another 20 seconds with that file to fit my new mags!
  17. +1 to the Bonesteel folding AR stock adapter. I have that very one (left folding), and it is ROCK SOLID. The Interfacing parts of the folding adapter are angled so that they continue to tighten if they wear. They wedge tightly against one another no matter how often the thing is folded, so the hinge never wobbles. The shot stock can be installed with this adapter. Just remember to buy a $5 castle nut somewhere. Once installed don't fold it if you don't want to, bit you will not wear it out even with thousands of folds. Oh, and it sounds like you get a better (lower) cheek weld with this tha
  18. If you mean the dummy round (little black shot shell-sized cylinder), then yes. Leave that in to insure proper feeding. It pushes out the last round.
  19. I hold my Magpul VFG similar to AFG style. Ringfinger wraps in corner where forearm and grip meet while thumb lays along barrel pointed toward muzzle. Thumb does not go behind the VFG. Magpul suggests this method for the VFG. I think it gives a more positive grip to combat heavy recoil than an AFG can give (AFG style with a VFG sized backstop and vertical contact area for muzzle rise). Works great and keeps the gun really solid from shouldering thru recoil.
  20. I was thinking about an R&R carrier with left side handle, but I could be convinced otherwise... What would a LSCH install cost when paired with your LRBHO, Cobra?
  21. OP: Do me a favor and tie loaded drums to your stick mags and test. My "common sense dictates" that drums may fall free of a slip-fit mag well more easily because of a greater force due to gravity as a result of their greater mass. So, make a stick mag weigh the same as a drum and test, just to eliminate that possibility. Jack: No disrespect intended at all. I am certainly no expert, and I clearly stated in my posts that I was not knocking either of the products I mentioned. I also know what I see. From pictures and video, there seems to be around twice (estimating) as much total materi
  22. Wrong end. The problem is the extended part you push with your finger. I was referring to that part of the lever. The finger end has a lot of material that is in line with the horizon when the weapon is shouldered. The OEM lever (finger end) is much more upright and has less material to "flop around" and release the mag. Reread my previous post with that in mind. It should make more sense. I am not knocking the product at all. They seem well made to me. Nearly bought one myself. I am simply gaming ideas that may explain the retention failures. Since you mentioned the magazin
  23. I don't think we have been told if the release catch is a JTE or RAM or homemade model... Both the RAM and JTE extended catches have about three times the metal beyond the pivot pin than the factory part. Means much higher forces due to higher inertia and longer leverage from the pivot. They also change the direction of recoil forces acting on the lever. The factory lever is nearly vertical, whereas these two are horizontal. Recoil impulse may act on the lever even more due to the lever angle with respect to the gun. I would imagine the longer acting component of recoil is the vertica
  24. Mine was a very snug fit. I worked it in and out firmly about thirty times, and pieces of plastic shaved off the sides because of the mag well rubbing. Finally, it locked up solidly. It required no other fitting for my gun. I have another MD-20 I need to check. I bet it is the same. I would pop off the metal feed lips and take some sand paper on a foam block to it. I'd swipe from the top of the tower to the base, swapping sides and checking fit often. I would only shape where it is needed and only just enough to pivot the drum in snugly. It will probably wear itself in from there
  25. Read about fitting MD drums. MD Arms sight has a video I think. Go slow and follow Mike's advice to a "T". Mine were very tight at first and wore in. Are they tight on the sides of the feed tower?
