  1. Sounds like you don't have enough "back-pressure." Think about what's happening with the firing mechanisms. If the gun is allowed to "slide" then the carrier isn't going to have the inertia to cycle properly. If bumpfiring/hipfiring is your choice, make sure there as little friction as possible, and that you are stable as possible. I'm not well versed enough to suggest alterations in gas handling.
  2. Thank you... I meant to imply that I have already converted the carbine and installed the BG. I appreciate the advice!
  3. It's a small thing, but I'm expecting my first batch of 10 pre-ban, steel, 30 round mags. It was a tough decision, but I decided to modify the weapon to fit the mag. I'm guessing the method of modifying the mag catch is easy peasy. Just grind and file slow and a little at a time until click-city is achieved? I'm more nervous about this than the BG and conversion.
  4. Haldir... you should be able to see threads under the sleeve on the muzzle.
  5. What model do you have? My IZ-332 had 24x1.5RH threads under a ring that was welded on (easy to remove).
  6. Congrats! I love mine... I put black wood on it. If you haven't done this before... as I had not... You'll probably need a upper hand guard spring (or shim as I made) to fit properly on the gas tube. The composite/plastic upper is shimmed with a plastic crossmember.
  7. Congratulations! I was thinking about polishing the friction surfaces of the FCG/Carrier/Bolt only. I don't like that shiny look of a polished carrier. How did your drum run before conversion?
  8. I did pay a hefty price for my IZ-107 ($700) but that's the item I wanted, and I was very informed after several months of research. I would not have gone higher, and $850 for the sporting carbine is atrocious.
  9. I was genuinly surprised when i ran my IZ-107 for the first time. I expected problems from all the hubbub about FTF/FTEs. I only experience issues when the gun is allowed to pivot more on the carrier (hip firing) with light loads. Glad to hear about your wins!
  10. Yes, if you go through the receiver, you're not paying attention at all. I don't think the bolt/screw supplied with my kit would have seated properly if I didn't drill completely through through trunion and the tap I used certainly wouldn't have done a proper job. I didn't have a deep enough pilot divot and went off center slightly. Post assembly, my carrier was hanging up on the screw head because it wasn't seating in the recessed portion of the BG. I managed to plane the BG a little with my Dremel and seat the screw head to the expected level. So if you do slip up like I did, it's recove
  11. My IZ-107 and its little friends... I need to get it some big friends.
  12. I can only hope to run into such a deal one day. Congratulations!
  13. I'm glad you asked your question, fretout. Prior to my infatuation with Saigas, my experience has been with steel pistol mags and single shot rifles. Even after I bought my Saiga 12, I had no idea that polymer feed lips in rifle mags would deform/slip as the shell detent is different. The thought just never came to mind. I learned something today - and I wouldn't known/thought to search the forum first on this topic for education. I keep all my Ruger 9mm and S-12 mags loaded, but only have a silly 5 round 7.62x39 mag at this time (unloaded).
  14. IZ-332 was noted @ ~96mm IZ-107 didn't have a figure recorded

    Texas?

Over in Oak Hill here about 2.5 miles from Red's.
  16. FYI: I decided to check on those cheap 5 round magazines at Keep Shooting and it seems they're on sale again. I picked up another 10 of them since they're at just under $8. Personally, I had to file about 1mm off the catch on each mag to fit them to my IZ-107. YMMV Happy Valentines Day
  17. I purchased four at the Black Friday special price. Good service, good quality performance mag. I made three into dove mags and used the fourth to fill the last empty slot in my vest. I will certainly purchase more as filing them is so simple.
  18. Haven't seen a clean FB GT in a while. I've seen several LXs raised from the dead in recent years though; none of them really clean.
  19. I couldn't find any alternatives so... My IZ-107 should be arriving locally today. I'm dripping with anticipation! My little Browning Invector 20ga is going to be sad. Maybe the range will afford me some range time for a few slugs (yeah right). Cross your fingers for me (that it comes today and that it's not some problem child).
  20. Greetings all... I've been lurking and salivating over these forums and the Saiga 12 for months. I'm finally in the position to make my purchase and thought I knew where I would buy from, but lots of negative views of the retailer have got me skiddish. I need some help. I've canvased Google like crazy looking for retailers and private sellers with 24" Saigas. There are a couple private sellers, but IMHO they want too much (>$700). Several "back order" listings exist (like Izmash is going to resurrect the IZ-107), and there's a few that are either on the mark or too good to be true.
