  1. I'd as soon as consider a VEPR 12 at this point. Pricey- yes. But perhaps it evens out with the wash. Besides- I'd rather NOT be wrong about the $850 entry fee and end up with a substandard piece. Nogt all that comes from China is bad. However, QUALITY is all over the map- and there is NO guarantee which end of the spectrum you'll get.
  2. Not sure if it will pass. FL has a long history of supporting CCW permits, stand your ground laws, and so forth. However, as I look across EVERY state, there is a concerted effort from the left to push all sorts of laws. Meanwhile, unemployment is high, Bengazi, arms deals and federal aid to countries that hate us, the deficit out of control, healthcare entitlements will bankrupt us... seems like gun control is a GREAT distraction.
  3. I'm curious too. Unless someone has/has had a VEPR and a Saiga... and magazines for both... I'm not sure how the differences can be explained without the examination of both. Hmmm...
  4. That'd be my concern- shortcuts that lead to a pricey paperweight. Hmmm... Local FFLs are selling Arsenal Saigas for around $1200. When I bought mine, I thought it was pricey... now, they are just outrageous. Makes me wish I bought 10 Saigas at $300 each a few years ago. I could have made about $900 profit on each in today's market- not that I'd gouge but seems like the Saiga has outperformed GOLD as of recently.
  5. I'm looking for a wood handguard- without converting over to the AK gas tube. Any ideas? Ironwood had a set for the sporter configuration, but I have a converted Saiga 12 and need the sporter handguard, a Yugo grip, and a Warsaw buttstock. Has Matt ever done that for anyone?
  6. Early 80s non-EFI K5 Blazer- perhaps an old CUC-V. Like others have said- you need to haul things. Plus the top is removable. But good luck finding one where the frame isn't Swiss cheese.
  7. Floyd- How many rounds have you put through it and what kinds of loads? You mentioned that you wanted to run 3"... have you done that yet? Also- what year model is yours? I've run about 150 or so 1 1/8 bird (setting 2) and some (maybe 40 or so) 00 buck (on setting 1) through my '09 model Saiga. My carrier looks similar in terms of wear but not quite as broad in terms of the contact as yours does on the tip.
  8. Me too. But I've gone bigger- where only 7.62 will do... LR-308 AP4. Collapsible stock, forward grip... it's not a tack driver but a nail gun.
  9. I think its safe to say the OP isn't planning on checking the rebuttals. He's got three posts and that's all.
  10. Have fun with the AR. Just like the Saiga... they both transmit "black rifle disease". You'll end up with more at some point.
  11. No that is incorrect. A gun that comes from the factory with a pistol grip is not a shotgun, legally speaking at least. It is an "other weapon." Not to be confused with an "any other weapon." To be a Shotgun, it must be "designed or redesignd to be fired from the shoulder." It ATF letters are not the law per se. However this letter explains what I'm talking about. Which just underscores the problems with government... very few people can make sense of the policies, procedures, guidelines and such without having spent countless hours figuring out what in the heck they (agencies
  12. Huh. Well, I own both- an AR and S12. I also own an LR-308 (~AR-10). I've never had an issue after any of my platforms were broken in and set- AR or other. Sure, the Saiga has something my ARs do not- the ability to shoot a multitude of shell types- but once a newer Saiga is properly set up with even the OE gas selector, it fires quite well. Mine did! Or buy an V-plug or auto-plug. Regardless, even the best manufacturers suffer from quality control issues. It happens. If I mention Olympic Arms on an AR site... well, the horror stories come out there too. Technically, the S12 has ma
  13. Oddly enough... but I've never been to a gun show because of the horror stories. I'd rather call around and check the internet than deal with drama.
  14. I'll be on the road later this year traveling between NM and IL. States I'm going through are NM, TX, OK, KS, MO, and IL. My Saiga 12 is 922 compliant. Is there anything that folks who live in those States can tell me about the laws and where being 922 isn't enough? Any restrictions on magazines (possession) or configuration (pistol grip / 18in barrel)? Thanks in advance...
  15. I paid almost $800 for a box-fresh Saiga that was in stock- cash & carry. Then, I bought a conversion kit. Another $150 or so. To be honest... waiting a week or three would have been okay too. Perhaps even better since I could have saved the money. But the ATF study scare was happening in the background and Saigas were in short supply at the time. I think your frustration is that you have a wad of cash out there and someone's story didn't seem to add up. I'd give them some time & get caught up on their supply. I always buy on a credit card (and then pay it off when it arrive
  16. I'm wondering when the reality TV "gun" fad will crest. I'm enjoying it while it's on... but still. If you look at the big picture, there's a lot of similar format shows that crop up... run for a while... and fade away. How many weight loss shows are there- Biggest Loser, Shedding for the Wedding? Ghost shows- wow, there's a bunch of similar shows... Ghost Adventures, Ghost Hunters, haunted this & that. The food network is the most guilty- you can watch any number of shows with the same format and a different host.
  17. Vulcan: Ugly guy, blind to the world around him, pretty good with tools likes building stuff- machines, etc. Hot wife. Seriously... it's a good fit. I'm all over the map when it comes to building things. I've built a few cars- interior restorations, some painting, fiberglass, custom wiring & even EFI systems... lots of home improvement projects- walls, cabinets, pantry, closets, landscaping... other hobby stuff too- a Saiga 12 conversion under my belt, some AR-15s / AR-10s, lots of RC models, scale models, and even some custom furniture.
  18. Yep. It's a theory. Maybe good- maybe bad. Who knows. Only time will tell. But I would be weary of anyone using a "theory" as the catalyst to enact sweeping changes or laws that redefine the relationship between man and his government. I'd also say that mankind has a terrible habit of getting dyed in the wool about stuff and then creating the most horrible systems to shove things down the throats of his/her fellow man. I've been around long enough to never want to be in such a rush only to make a mistake... and to know speed of action doesn't replace sound judgement. Someho
  19. That's the problem- the "data" is all over the place in terms of interpretation and causation. Pick a position- man made or otherwise- and an "expert" who supports it is out there. Tie that to politics and legislation that favors one side or the other... and "science" (good or bad) becomes fuel for political agendas- scary stuff. That's running amok.
  20. So... who (or which groups of folks) came up with the figure of 4.5 or 7 billion? I'm skeptical of science these days. Too many folks are in it to "make a difference"... which is code for AGENDA. Global warming has been the poster child for science run amok and unchecked. FWIW- I'm more concerned with OUR economy and OUR ability to sustain OURSELVES. With 9%+ unemployment, an ever increasing debt, horrendous trade deficits, increasing entitlements... well, I'm thinking locally before globally. We need to get people working and off the dole. Drop the tax rates and spur hiring where
  21. Same here Me too. Somewhere around 2000-2003... Oh- and Dave, looks like you got a heck of a deal. I spent almost $800 on mine back in late spring. I have a feeling prices either have stabilized or will remain low since the BATF is dealing with a lot of bad press and is stuck in "damage control" versus "take your rights" mode.
  22. Is there an Izhmash sew-on patch? I've seen ones for Colt, DPMS, and other manufactures- just not Izhmash. I'd like to put one on my soft case.
  23. Best revenge is success. It eats people alive to see someone they don't like succeed.
  24. Yeah. That's what I thought too. I did my Saiga 12 conversion myself. I went slow and had videos from CSS and others on my laptop and played them when I needed them.
