  1. There isn't such a thing as "does not fit" when it comes to these guns. You make things fit. This can some times require welding and research. Never hammer axis pins out, you probably neglected to remove the anchor wire, or got them hung up on something. Don't understand why people buy trigger guards for these guns that come with a PG nut already on them... The saiga 308 already has a PG nut hole, all you need is the spindley sheet metal trigger guard and to drill 2 holes.
  2. My rear trunnion looks a whole hell of a lot worse than that... Rivets still tight, doesn't show any signs of having lost strength, but it is 11 years old and has had a high 3" round count. It's an under gassed gun with an auto plug and booster puck, I run a buffer now days which hasn't affected reliability at all for me, but it has stopped the battering. A lot of why my gun is still in one piece may have to do with the ace stock conversion block and how many friggin screws are holding that thing wedged in there. With the current set up, 3" 000 buck feels about like shooting a very
  3. Saiga 308s are out standing rifles with a proper full conversion, and CSSpec magazines.... (Please stay away from rails) Try to dress up a stock saiga with made in china gun show garbage, you'll end up with a joke of a rifle. Simple as that. Get an M1A and be happy with it. Few more paychecks, and you will have made a proper choice.
  4. That wood is amazing, it reminds me of the level of figure in some upper end guitars. That's always been a gripe of mine with wood on guns, you always see such nice woods used in other fields, while the scraps are used on guns. I've always been paranoid of ordering any wood set for this reason. Plus, I'd end up terrified of damaging it. It's a beautifully well made gun, as well as beautiful over all, very nice work.
  5. I read in another thread here about a certain way to use a digital camera to take a picture of the dot on aimpoints. Since to me, red dot sights have always been very strange to my eye, like a constantly shifting oval with some flare on the outsides, I tried this trick. Using the camera correctly, it's very obvious that the dot is flawless in aimpoint sights, my eyes just can't see them that way. It's quite impressive through a camera actually, it looks like someone pasted a perfect red round dot on the picture with photoshop. I've had lasik to correct my astigmatism, as well as ge

  7. Have you tried lightly sanding the sharp corners and de-horning the magazine ever so slightly, then just taping it up? If you're using it in competition type situations, that might be a good idea.

Depends on what you're after. I really do not like tradition smiths. Only company making revolvers I like the looks of is ruger, but I only like the full underlug GP100s.

Just picked 'er up today locally, first non-454casull revolver I've ever owned. Such a dream to shoot, a perfect double action trigger that still hits primers with authority.
  10. Well put 80 rounds through one today. Ran 100% as expected, geesh that's one tank of a magazine. I was using it as a mono-pod off the shooting bench and it wouldn't budge at all. I'd be willing to wager that these things are more durable and reliable than some of the upper end steel AK mags.
  11. I've never cared for the aimpoint dot either. Even after lasik it's still not a precise clean dot to my eyes. Now the leupold... It has one major flaw, the center dot is 7 MOA!!! The PKAS is 1.5moa when illuminated and 1moa when not. I was going to buy one a couple years back until I saw how huge that dot was in the optic. To me a 1x SCOPE is a precision optic and not something exclusively for close range.
  12. I see your point but, I disagree with what is viable to stake your life on. I've got an aimpoint compM2 sitting around, I've just never had a huge interest in it. It sits on my stg556, and rarely gets used. The PKAS I've used on almost every AK pattern rifle I have, and have never had to turn it on. It also doesn't obscure the sights, so it's optional use. Russian optics sit high so you can use your irons, mostly, aside from some of the more radical sights.
  13. NPZ PO 4x24 after being moved forward with the regular AK style mount. Here's some comparison pictures. Factory NPZ AK mount, supposedly: I think they should call it the saiga sporter mount, since that's what it's intended for. AK mount: Also PKAS hanging out in the bottom, I suggest using it with the cover stowed that way so you can keep the adjustment tool with you.
  14. Got my AK mount in for my NPZ PO4x24 "AK version" they call it. That mount was meant for unconverted saigas only, apparently. Now she really works like she should. Switching bases moved the scope forward 2 inches. Also, gotta love the CSSPEC magazines.
  15. PK-AS optics are known to go dead. I've never really used the illumination on mine except when messing around with it, if I can see through it I don't need illumination since it has such bright glass. You don't see the saiga series not selling because there's lack of replacement parts. Plus, what do you do when the tritium in ANY scope expires? I think off-ing all combloc optics is probably a poor choice, at least when dealing with this platform. Things are tailored to these rifles, and tend to work much better without needing a bunch of additional work.
  16. I'm bringing this back from the dead because I decided to try something with my NPZ PO 4x24. I bought one of the POSP AK mounts, and switched the mount on my PO over to the POSP AK mount. It works perfectly! Now I can use my irons, and my scope sits about 2" further forward. I installed it while half asleep after just getting out of bed, if that gives you any idea on how easy it is to swap mounts. I still need to pin it eventually but I figure I can get some headless allen screws then drill and tap the holes for them and have an even better set up than regular pins. Since it's all soft
  17. You're listing the specs for the lands of the barrel, not the bullet its self. (Sort of like how almost all 30 caliber rifles are called 7.62mm when they're usually firing a 7.82mm bullet. They're going by the size of the lands and not the size of the bullet. Russian 7.62mm is not 7.82mm, it is 7.92mm so that's something you may want to consider even though the lands are still 7.62mm, hints 30 caliber) .223, 5.56, and many other rounds all use the .224 caliber bullet. FN correctly did the name for the .224" in metric when they called it the 5.7mm.(5.7x28mm) 5.7mm is the true size of the 5

    ammunition?

I'd recommend grabbing the federal no.6 shot from walmart. It's $4.25-$4.77 per 25 rounds, it's cheaper than most bulk packs and it has a lot more cycling energy.
  19. What ever happened to these? I don't wish for any drama to be stirred up by me digging this topic back up, but I was highly interested in the concept and was anxiously awaiting its release for some testing.
  20. Just woke up and grabbed the package in the mail. Thanks a lot man these things are friggin amazing. So far they're the first magazines that have an oversized rear lug in my rifle. I'll need to even up my mag catch a couple thousandths, but even as is they function flawlessly and lock up like a bank vault. Zero side to side, front to back play, and they sit the highest of all my mags in my magwell. That spring is some serious stuff in there, reminds me of the spring I got in some checkmate 1911 mags awhile back. But anyway 100% worth every penny.
  21. If you aren't converting it, get the izhmash SVD style stock for it. Thank me later, as this is the most comfortable and highest quality stock out there. I would give nearly anything if they made one for a converted saiga 308. So insanely comfortable... Just wow. But really, a saiga 308 requires a conversion, in stock trim it's a very pathetic gun. The "non-conversion" stock options like the tapco and what ever else that use a pistol grip, are hilarious looking and very uncomfortable. Every time I see something like those the first thought that crosses my mind is "Wow someone i
  22. Do it the same way you reach out to 100 yards with a pistol. I was hitting 2" swinger steel plate with my buckmark 22lr over the weekend at 100 yards. Instead of your normal sight picture, slightly elevate the front post above the rear notch, and hold under what you're shooting at. It will take awhile to get the hang of it, and exactly where to hold, but this is how to get it done.
  23. Placing an order for 4 of them. Worse case if they don't lock up nicely in my rifle, I can pull out the mig and add a little meat to the tab then hand file it. Doesn't seem like a huge issue to me, as almost all steel mags for larger caliber AK pattern rifles have to be fitted to the individual rifle. I would have suggested not making them "drop-in" fit, and opted for making them oversized, since you can pick up a set of diamond files from harbor freight that are perfect for this kind of work for only like $2. And it takes a total of about 15 minutes to fit a few of them, I know because I
