  1. It's nice to be reasonable with people with differing opinions. One thing I've noticed about this forum is the amount of respect most of the members have towards one another. I can drag my knuckles with the best of them though...and I have the battle scars to prove it.
  2. Barska Optics froogle it (google shopping) or search on ebay. I just got a new 3-9x42 with mil-plex IR for roughly $60 with shipping on ebay. I still have to get a mount though but the optics are really sharp and according to Bossman the adjustments actually give you the distance they are supposed to. Waterproof, shockproof, fogproof. To what extent I'll have to see.
  3. Tony, Can you scan it and have us take a look at it? Maybe more eyeballs would help in deciphering the handwriting. It is carelessness like this that gives gun owners a bad name and a bad reputation.
  4. I believe he is looking out for the best interest of this country. I really do. The problem is the schism between his view of how this country should be and the view of a lot of other Americans (perhaps the majority?) of how this country should be. I believe that the Founding Fathers believed in checks and balances precisely because they foresaw that people in power would have a tendency to abuse that power. There was a delineation between the three parts of government because they knew that dissenting voices and differences in opinion were healthy in a government FOR the people. The document
  5. Interesting question BRG3. I think ultimately it will boil down to the shooter. I've known people that literally couldn't hit the broad side of the barn with a pistol but could perform surgery with an M240G. Personally, my ultimate rifle will be the one that I'm holding in my hand at the time. No seriously, I mean it. I realized a long time ago that every weapon system is only going to be as good as the operator because after all, it is only a tool. I am better off devoting my time improving my personal skills than searching for the perfect tool. Put it this way, give me a mallet, chisels,
  6. Two things: 1) Is anyone thinking of making a 15rd mag for the unfortunate residents of NJ? 2) Why the HELL didn't I join the Air Force? Holy Shnikes!!!!!
  7. Sometimes this whole checks and balances thing is too inconvenient. Hell they had Congress and the Executive office. Why not the Judicial branch as well? Well, it seems like at least some Congressmen are doing work. I've been keeping tabs on this myself to see what the fallout is going to be.
  8. My research into reloading (i'm starting as well) indicates that this is a good deal. You'll need dies as well and several web sites suggest that you should stick with the same manufacturer.
  9. And people always looked at me funny when I told them to aim low center mass! Now I have hardcore scientific proof. Hey Cobra thanks for renaming the thread and clarifying things!
  10. The weekend prior at the Valley Forge Convention Center. I want to get there Friday night before someone snatches up all the .308 ammo! Seriously this ammo situation is getting out of hand. Anybody see that Chris Rock skit where he says that if bullets were ultra expensive then there would be less gun crime? I was laughing at the absurdity of it at the time but now I'm starting to think someone in authority actually took him seriously.
  11. 3 round burst? Interesting.... Seriously, skyugo thanks for posting this man. I am actually thinking of getting the RSA trigger at some point in the future. I'll tuck it away in the brain housing group until then.
  12. I just bought that yesterday also. I didn't want to spend that much but figured I could reload the brass once I get my hand press and dies. Hey Havoc if you're not gonna reload the brass I'll be more than happy to take the spent casings off your hands for you!
  13. You're welcome. I will be going to a show in PA next week and hope to find something as well. I really want to pick up a set of windage adjustable sights but for some reason they are scarce online.
  14. Cobra, I agree with RangerM9. I would never disparage the office of the President of the United States however he is a public servant, just like me. I did not agree with the arguments for the war, but I carried out my orders as quickly as possible and to the best of my abilities. I have no regrets and I believe that I went in there with both eyes wide open, which is to say that I expected to have been lied to and I was not surprised that end troop numbers were figured out by DOD bean counters while General Shinseki, who had the courage to tell the truth, was marginalized and eventually rep
  15. Lance and snapshot, My rule of thumb regarding legal to own or not has always been whether or not I can find that weapon configuration in a reputable gun shop in my state. Pawn shops don't count and my definition of reputable is typically years in operation. I can not stress enough that you must learn what is legal in the state that you reside. If you can find the saiga with the skeleton stock in a shop, then by all means add the stock to an unconverted one that you have. Make sure that you can prove via receipt that it originated from the Izshmash factory in case someone argues that i
  16. Thank you kindly, ma'am. I've been lurking in this forum off and on for quite some time...long enough to remember BRG3 not being old enough to purchase firearms. That was several hash marks ago. I haven't found a better place (other than the Corps) that shares my love of firearms and absolute hatred of zombies. Now where's the forum where we start talking about single malt scotch, Belgian ales, and fine cigars?
  17. Are you using a .41AE round to mount them? Because if you are then those are some monster moths. Perhaps you are raising evil moths with lasers attached to their friggin heads? That would be bad. Almost as bad as the undead running rampant in my town.
  18. --> QUOTE(G O B @ Feb 28 2007, 07:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Beretta bobcat. .25 ACP with crimcon trace grips(announced at shot show and i am still waiting.) The tilt barrel is great for old hands. No need to rack slide, and the first shot DA is heavy enough to limit unintentional discharges. Hmmm...learn something new every day. I did not realize those little .25's didn't need to have their slide racked. I may seriously look into these little puppies because I'm looking for something similar for the wife.
  19. Done. Too bad they didn't have a comments section. I had a few choice words for them. And I really hate how they throw these "statistics" right before asking a question without stating where they got their information from.
  20. In that article the trigger pull was somewhere in the area of eleven pounds for double action mode. Supposedly lightweight rimfire revolvers have that issue so maybe something in a .32 would be better. This is why I suggested the derringer. I know two rounds don't sound like a lot but it beats having a panic horn and in the event that she misses or doesn't put the assailant down with two shots the odds of the weapon becoming used against her are negated.
  21. I agree. When I first bought the 308 a few weeks ago I did not realize that the ammo situation was getting scarce. However, I expect that to change (hopefully) but in the meantime I am going to start loading my own rounds. Wanted to start getting into that anyway. Ammo situation aside, I would still have bought the .308 because I've never been a big fan of the .223.
  22. Combat Medic, I would never take an 84 year old woman shopping for a firearm unless I was very sure of what her skills/capabilities/mindset are when it comes to self defense. For your sake I hope you fully understand what it is you are taking on because from here on out you will be partially responsible for any incidents involving that firearm, good or bad. Having said that, these are my recommendations. Get her a derringer in .410, .38, or .32 magnum. Weighs less than a pound for standard models and half that for lightweight models. If you insist on a revolver get something c
  23. Doug, You'll want to clean that cosmoline off before firing otherwise it might cause the action to stick and you can get all kinds of feeding/extraction problems. Then you might start thinking the AK's are crap and we'd hate for you to think that! You can use hot soapy water if you want. But be sure to give the parts a good coating of lube (not dripping mind you) but well lubed. My definition of well lubed (in NE part of the country) is a layer of lubricant that coats the part and will leave a slight imprint of your finger if you touch it. If you take the weapon to an arid, dusty region
  24. Hello, my name is GunnyR. I live in NJ. I just bought a Saiga .308 with a 16'' barrel and skeleton stock. My last .308 caliber weapon prior to that was the M240G medium machine gun on a crappy ass turret in gypsy armored humvee in a sandlot called Iraq. I've shot everything from a Beretta 92 to the M198 Howitzer (pulling the lanyard and calling in fire missions) and every caliber in between. So what I'd like to say is that...ummm....I'm a gunaholic and I need help! (cheers and applause from other gunaholics anonymous members) Yeah G O B...I can relate! I told my wife last nigh
