  1. There is nothing you can do about barrel heating up in rapid fire session. The idea is to use this tape to tape inside of the handguard to prevent the handuard from melting. Hey Optimus Matrix, do you know if Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts sell that tape?
  2. TonyRumore, I can't wait to see it MD_Willington, I just want to see if the manufacturer can do it and how it is going to cost compare to the way you suggested.
  3. Threading is not standard in RAAC Saigas. You will have to do it yourself.
  4. Last weekend at the range, this guy has a Poly Tech Chinese Match Barrel Ak-47. He offer to let me shoot it, and it was amazing accurate. The barrel was way thicker than traditional AK-47 barrel. With all kinds of thoughts running through my head and I thought to myself, what if the Saiga .308 barrel were bore to .223 and 762 and put it in .223 and 762 receiver? I would think is an easy process if the manufacturer really want to do it because all the parts they have already. I wonder if we can submit this request to the importer and see what they have to say. If this is available, c
  5. Yes, glove would protect your hand in extreme heat transfer, but I don't think I'll ever get to that point. I just want to tape it to protect the handguard from melt down.
  6. Just an idea...your thoughts on this. I was thinking using this tape to tape inside of my Saiga handguard to prevent heat transfer to the handguard in rapid fire session. I'll go to HomeDepot and Lowes to see if they sell them later. If they don't sell them in small quantity, I will look for something similar that they sell in small quantity. Filberflect
  7. I was in the same boat as you when I started to play with Saiga rifles. I have simple tools, such as, drill, drill bits. screw drivers...my point is there is no greater satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment than doing it yourself. A penny saved is a penny earned.....The key point is doing research and see how things work before doing conversion. My Saigas
  8. So you are saying you would shoot the reloading cartridge with a dent in it. Do you reload the same cartridge with multiple dents? I don't know about you but I would rather have no dents on my cartridge when it come to reloading. The brass for my .223, I reload them around 7-9 times before I throw them away. If you're ok with 7-9 dents on your brass when you reload, good luck on safety........
  9. Not if you're into reloading.
  10. Do you think maybe cut 1/2" to 1" back to the same shape on the receiver cover will solve the problem? has anyone try it yet? anyone dare to try?
  11. Did you put Loctite on the screw, if you did, you should be fine.
  12. Just a thought, if you have mig weld, why didn't you just weld the trigger guard to the receiver and the mag release.
  13. The conversion steps is pretty straight forward. I didn't have any special tools. All you need is a drill, drill bits, metal file, punch and screw drivers. I order PG, Buttstock and FCG from www.k-var.com to save shipping cost. If you decide to reuse the hole where the spot weld is, I think that is going to be the hardest part to drill. For mine, I just cut the forward trigger guard straight and and use loctite steel & metal adhesive to glue it against the back of the magazine release. This way I don't have to drill unnescessary hol under the magazine release. The other thing member
  14. (1) If you are planning to convert to PG, Buttstock and FCG then this is a good link to read 2 or 3 times to get familiar with Saiga Conversion (2) Look through these picture posts and decide what you like an PM that member where to buy parts, how to do it or just post your specific question here and we will help you. I think this is the best way for you to start.....
  15. Tell us what you would like to do to your S-.223 and members in this forum will guide you in the right direction.
  16. If you have free money laying around, which gas operated, piston driven rifle in .223 would you get? and why? XCR .223 P.O.F .223 LWRC .223
  17. That is really nice. But how do you adjust elevation on that? or does somebody sell one with elevation and windage in one package? Have you thought about filing down the top mount where the weaver rail sits until you get an approximate same height as the leaf sight. This is really nice. I will do some more research on this....
  18. SaigaNoobie, your point is well taken. And I think this why you see many local gunshops selling firearms that are not compliance with the 922r. I would think the onwer would be smart enough to know the law. I don't think the owner wants an ATF agent walk in the store and point out to him that he is in violation of section 922r. To be on the safe side, I converted all my Saigas to be compliance with 922r. Please don't get upset with me, I'm just giving my observation.
  19. I used 3/16x19/32 Hair Pin Clips from Lowes. It has the same diameter as the origianl spring and it works really good. Just slide it in the pin axis until it locks in place in middle opening. It looks something this Hair Pin Clips
  20. (1) The empty bottle is for gun oil. (2) The tool above the oil is for front sight elevation adjustment tool, flat head screw driver for the handguard screw. This tool has to be use in conjunction with the tool on the right that has many cut slots in it. The tool with many cut slots in also use for opening up the gas tube lever. (3) The tool look like a puch is for driving out two pins in the bolt the hold the extractor and the firing pin.
  21. I don't think it is necessary to file the the disconnector. It might be that the pan head screw you put in to hold the rear of the trigger guard is a bit tall and that is why your disconnector wouldn't release the hammer. If you remember before you did the conversion, when you drill out the rivet that hold the rear trigger guard, the rivet end that goes inside the receiver has special purpose to maintain correct orientation of the disconnector.
  22. Just visit some local gun shops and went to the gun show yesterday and gun dealers are saying .223 ammo is going 25% in September. I can't find any .223 ammo anywhere at local gun shops. They say is one way of "gun control" that the f**cking politicians come up with.
  23. The gut of the Saiga is an AK-47, not only that , is from Russia. I bought Saigas because I could not find quality AK anywhere for under $500. I have .223, 762 and .308 and it only cost $880. With $880, I can't even buy an AR-15. I did the conversion to the .223 and the 762 with K-Var FCG, Buttstock and PG and each rifle only cost $370 after conversion. $$$$$ is why I bought Saigas..........
  24. I know how to use the peep sight, but is hard for me to explain to people how to use it. Here is the link with pictures Peep Sight
