  1. Forget the Halo, unless you like the extra pounds. Check out the Chaos rail, (he's a forum contributer).
  2. Thanks 1911, that pretty much sums it up . Honestly though, I was intimidated before I went through with my 7.62 conversion, then once I dove in, the water was warm and the girls were skinny dipping. Now I'm looking around for more excuses to use my dremel. Next project is modding an SKS-M receiver/stock to take the 75 round drum, just waiting on the UPS man.
  3. There's ways to make your 12 922r compliant that don't involve any cutting or grinding, then you can use the 10 round mags. Read up on the 922r in the forum: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showforum=65 You're still going to have to spend money on parts. Which to me is the hardest part of doing the conversion...the grinding and cutting is about as easy as baking a spaghetti.
  4. Might need a PG nut if that PG doesn't come with one. Or get the Tromix DIY TG and you'll solve the PG nut issue and a lot of other issues along the way. Not sure how it would work with the ATI Strikeforce PG, I only have experience with the SAW PG.
  5. When I first got my 12 I bought a big variety of stuff in 5 packs and tried it all out. The reduced recoil stuff did give some problems some of the time. The Walmart birdshot 100 pack works 98% of the time on gas setting 2. Some Federal birdshot I tried on setting 2 would stovepipe on me almost always so that goes in the trap shooting drawer. Love the Walmart Super X slug value pack and the buckshot value pack too! Using the 10 round AGP mags is a direct violation of 922r. You can get a Izhmash 8 round mag if you can find one...seen one in the for sale section for a steal at $150!!!!
  6. Can you test it by pushing the piston through the gas tube with both removed from the gun?
  7. This David guy would be a good addition to the team over at Wraithmaker.
  8. Here's mine (if you study the picture real closely you'll see it's (the gun) on the bed and ready for action ), simple conversion, still got to do the bullet guide so I can get some use out of my drum and mags and trying to talk myself into Dinzag's bolt on HG retainer so I can put on my K-VAR HGs. SAW PG, reused original TG. Tapco G2 FCG from Dinzag and AK retainer plate (works great!). Surefire clear 30 rounder. What an improvement over the factory config!
  9. Two ProMags must be twice as bad as one But I have faith that your design to couple them would work nice even if the mags didn't. Basically what I'm saying is put your efforts toward a better brand of magazine, sounds like the innovation is there.
  10. If you've got the bolt lined up correctly in the carrier, on mine I have to insert piston into tube and set the bolt/carrier down on the receiver rails at the back of the receiver so the back of the carrier is about flush with the back of the receiver, the trick is I have to push down a bit and then forward to get it to line up and go along it's track, the pushing down is due to the cocked hammer holding the whole thing up a little too far. A little push down and then forward and it all slides into place nice and smooth.
  11. Are those 12 guage mag pouches just mil surp stuff that they happened to discover holds the 12 guage mags and they're selling them for 3 times as much as my local mil surp store? If so, anybody know what the original intent of that pouch is so I know what to look for next time I'm mil surping?
  12. Not sure on the legality of adding vents to the handguard, if it is found to be illegal that's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard, I wouldn't be surprised though with most of the other gun laws out there. To remove the handguard, take out the screw on the bottom front of the receiver. Then pull the handguard off, you might have to smack it a bit with a rubber hammer.
  13. I seem to remember hearing bad things about those Wraithmakers... I know there's a site that sells Saiga parts, I've seen it recommended in other threads for similiar parts requests. Someone will chime in with the answer shortly I'm sure.
  14. Speaking on prices going up in the gun world, I'm no expert in capitalism or economics but you'd think the gun prices would go down with this panic fear of a ban situation. I guess if everyone wasn't panicking that is. If the companies have all these guns that might be banned, wouldn't the price go down so they can ensure they'll get rid of them all before a ban? I guess that just can't happen because of all the people who wait 'til the ban scare and then go buy bunches of rifles etc. Same with the ammo. Yay or nay?
  15. Izhmash brand bolts right up: Don't know about what vert grip to put on though, but obviously any picatinny style will do. I wouldn't imagine you'd want it any farther aft than the rail on here goes.
  16. I went with the x39 because of it's intended use of a couple hundred yards or less. And the ammo price helps too especially how fast you can unload a 30 round mag. I'm saving my .308 money for something with a serious scope for the long range situations.
  17. Often there's posts in this forum of someone or others local shop having a few. That's gunna be your best bet if you're really itching to get one, only costs about $25 to ship and maybe $20 for the FFL. After a week or so reading these forums and watching youtube videos, I read on here about one at a shop in Baton Rouge. Called them up and a week later I was unpacking that cool looking Saiga box amazed by this cool weapon.
  18. I got a Nike softball bag at Ross for $6.99. Kind of along the lines of what others have suggested, a cheap duffel.

  20. 1. The conversion (or if I may quote a valuable member of this forum by the name of Nalioth) the "liberation", so it's more like saying the unconversion because the gun was converted to be imported legally to the U.S. If that's not reason enough then I'm sure someone will pipe up on this thread with all the facts about the gun being better balanced etc. So yes, "conversion" is definately worth it. The way I look at it, an unconverted Saiga defeats the purpose of owning a Saiga. It's like you've always wanted a Mustang but end up getting the V6. That analogy sort of makes sense. 2. Y
  21. Yah I haven't heard word on if it's double or single stack. To me, if it's single I'll stick with my AGP 10 rounders as they are long enough but if they're double now I'm interested.
  22. I say it's well worth it to take it apart and do the conversion right. This carbine was meant to have a pistol grip and the trigger was never meant to be at the far back of the receiver. I got my FCG from Dinzag, it's a Tapco G2 and it's modded to go along with the BHO. I reused my factory TG. The 12 guage is the one with the gas piston. I got my SAW PG from Dinzag and it comes with the screw. The nut you have to purchase separately which I also got from Dinzag. There's a ton of stock options. Your options for the handguards are limited until you get an ak gas tube and the lower handgu
  23. I couldn't even drill through the spot weld, period. I tried a titanium bit and a carbide bit. Used beeswax on there too. Even tried a drill press after my arm wore out with the hand drill. Those titanium bits go right through that Izhmash finish but barely pricked that damn spot weld. What I did was grind off the 2 rivets and pull the plate off, then grind the spot weld from the now accesible top side of the sporter plate until the trigger guard was it's own entity for my reuse.
