Crusader 64
I got this idea from Glockmonger. I bought a XS rear adjustable sight for a 1911 pistol and put it on the rear sight slot of my Saiga 12. I had to cut the reciever cover and drill and tap a hole for the elevation screw, but it was worth it. I had the front bead filed down and a Kimber tritium bead drilled and tapped on the ledge of the gas block. I zero'ed this in with 2 3/4in slugs at 50yrds. The point of impact at 50 yards is set at the top of the front sight post. This allows for a point of impact to be within the tritium dot at closer ranges. Just as the XS sight advertized for their pistol sights. See some pictures below. Edited October 8, 2009 by Crusader
shades_of_grey 1,092
Pretty cool, Crusader. A helluva improvement over the factory sights, and good in low-light.
stiletto raggio 20
If you don't mind m asking, what was total cost on this mod? I am having a build done and thinking about sight options.
Crusader 64
If you don't mind m asking, what was total cost on this mod? I am having a build done and thinking about sight options. The rear sight was $90.00 and the Kimber front bead was $30.00. There are definiately cheaper options, I was just hell bent on XS style sights. Just remember that what ever sight you choose, a 1911 rear sight will most closely fit the rear groove.

Ragnar 10
Nice work on the sites. I am having a similiar setup done on my S-12. Why do you need two flashlights and night sites on one gun? Are you one of those guys who wears a belt and suspenders just to be safe?

I do wear both a belt and suspenders to be safe.
Gibbles 23
Pretty cool I have shot in several night 3gun matches, and I'm building up my saiga 12 with that in mind.
Crusader 64
Pretty cool I have shot in several night 3gun matches, and I'm building up my saiga 12 with that in mind. Thanks. I find that a 50yrd zero with the point of impact at the top of the front sight post seems to work best. That allows for the point of impact to be in the tritium dot at closer ranges.
towerofpower93 22
Looks nice. Any particular direction to knock the rear sight out (left to right or vice-versa)?

Nailbomb 10,221
what size groups were you getting @ 50 yards? Kindof curious due to the short sight radius...
Crusader 64
1.5 to 2 inch groups at 50yrds using winchester 1oz 2 3/4in slugs and I was able to consitantly hit diet coke cans from the standing position, but only 3 at a time. After 3, I am too much of a nervious reck to hit any more. I noticed that Tromix makes a fiberoptic bead that could also do the trick. Just need to drill an tap the gas block. http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_115&products_id=175 Edited October 13, 2009 by Crusader
