ironlionzion90 0 Posted May 8, 2010 Report Share Posted May 8, 2010 Hey dudes Just got my saiga back from the gunsmith today. I went with the hogue ak47 pistol grip. Needless to say i was surprised to find that the hogue grip wiggles back and forth and side to side (more side to side). Is this normal? Should i ask the gunsmith? Also there is no bottom to the grip. Does anyone know where to find one? Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Cowtown 1 Posted May 8, 2010 Report Share Posted May 8, 2010 (edited) I use the Hogue and I have no wobble or side to side movement... I used the the Tapco grip nut and a short screw with a little red loctite. Mine has no bottom either. I think someone does make a cap for the bottom but I have not looked for one. To make it fit properly (rock solid, unmoving) the easiest way is to take your pistol grip nut, and cut off ~1/8" of it, and it will fit right. I had to do that to make it fit when I used it. Exactly what KK said, I had to take just a tid but off the nut to make it fit rock solid. NM0 586 Posted May 9, 2010 Report Share Posted May 9, 2010 I put one on my 7.62 and ran over a hundred rounds through her a couple weeks ago. No wobble and it's still tight. I'm really pleased with the grip so far. There was nothing wrong with the saw grip, I just seem to like the Hogue better. Recently got one for my SP 101 and was amazed at how well it fit my hand and how much recoil it absorbed. Figured I might as well give one a try on one of the saigas. Yeah, as far as I know it applies to any Saiga rifle/shotgun probably many AKs too. I believe it's because the grip was designed for an AK pistol grip nut, but most people use a TAPCO pistol grip nut which is a little longer. So it's not really an issue with the gun but an issue with the grip nuts. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Mossberg Man 1 Posted May 9, 2010 Report Share Posted May 9, 2010 I agree when I originally installed my Hogue it did have some play in it, I added a rubber washer and it was then rock solid. When I added the internal receiver plate it rested on the edges of it perfectly and I was able to remove the rubber washer and still have the rock solid grip. If you use a Tapco pg nut, most AK grips will wobble.. because the Tapco product is not designed correctly. My advice is to replace the Tapco with a pg nut from K-Var, which are US-made and mil-spec. Yeah I put the final screws in and I am deciding whether or not to do a folding mechanism or not? Granted I think I may start with the Mississippi Auto Arms skeleton stock, and may add a folding mechanism later? H Hey thanks for all the quick replies. The K-VAR nut you're talking about is it the one manufactured by arsenal?
