Vintovka1891 1
Before I order all the parts, I'd like some advice from those with experience about which Fire Control Group retainer works best and is the best value. I've heard to steer clear of Tapco retainers as they require modification to fit properly. Which ones did you all use? Also, are all bullet guides created equal? Any recommendations? PS- I would prefer to buy all the parts I need from the same source to consolidate on shipping costs. I was planning to buy from CSS.
geepelton 105
I ordered a complete conversion kit from CSS and everything dropped in without a problem, I used a retaining plate that came in the kit. Just order a bullet guide from CSS and you will not regret it. Good luck with the conversion and don't forget to show us pics. http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-CONVERSION-KITS-cln-SAIGA-223,-5.45,-7.62,-308/Categories

The Tapco retaining plates for the 5.45, 7.62, & .223 require no modifications and are a good buy. Makes securing the FCG.easy.

The smaller version is almost a direct copy of the Krebs plate and is good to go in my 3 Saigas. Edited February 3, 2011 by Mullet Man
beefcakeb99 572
Well I am one going against the grain, and will say the shepards crook. IMO it "works best" and is "the best value".
sharkforce 4
the tapco retainer worked fine in my saiga 5.45 but the krebs style retainer seems more secure. my 5.45 has a round trunnion and there is no bullet guide for the 5.45 round trunnion on CSS. Got the Tapco retainer for free. Hasn't budged but Kreb's holds more secure. Would go Kreb's if I had to actually buy it: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=685437 http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=114844 You're saving $4.10 when going with the Tapco. toshbar 36
R clips from the hardware store. $0.40, not using a bullet guide and it's been 100% for 2k rounds.
