I was just watching the news they say it is not going to effect us here. Then I went and looked at the weather models and they all come straight here basicly. I live in oregon and it looks like a bad place on the model if goes bad over there. I hope they can get it under control.

here is the model link just copy and past it.

Dude there is not a cloud of death coming to get you. Like everything else on the news today it is BLOWN way out of per portion. The reactor did not melt down, this is not Chernobyl. There is a containment that would contain any bad shit that might escape. I have done maintenance on Nuke plants for the last 7 years. Stop believing everything you hear, take it from someone who actually works on nukes on a regular basis. WE ALL WILL BE FINE.

The "news" doesn't report shit. My best friend has been living in Tokyo for the past 10 years. The area that was mostly destroyed was falling apart, old and decrepit to begin with, fact. Another fact is that the nuclear power plant was already falling apart ten years ago, they knew it was in need of work and replacement but did nothing. You don't hear any of this stuff on the "news."

From what I've gleaned from several sources, including US experts that were at Chernobyl, this Japanese event has been blown way out of proportion by the media particularly with regard to potential effects on the US mainland, which makes more people watch their networks, which in turn allows them to collect more advertising money, and agitates the anti-nuclear people who view the industry as a great Satan. It distracts us away from the human tragedy occurring due to the quake and tsunami which likely involves many more lives, and we must focus on salvaging the majority of those who are starving, dehydrating, and freezing outside of the 20km evacuation zone around this one reactor site as well as those even more distant who suffer more from the physiological and mental stresses unrelated to any radiation, like depression, anxiety, hypertension, and post-traumatic stress disorder, which can all have physical and mental consequences.

When the Commies screwed the pooch with Chernobly, the United States received fallout. The US will receive something at what degree we'll have to wait and see. The food supply is my concern.

There is no chance of any health problem for us , here on the other side of the worlds BIGGEST ocean. This is at best a 50 mile problem, at worst a 200 mile problem. Those of my generation were exposed to 50+ ABOVE GROUND nuclear explosions. Each one exposed us to many many thousands of times the radiation near these reactors. Maryland was in the secondary fallout zone for US tests. We have the highest rates of cancer and goiters, and the women all have had fibroid tumors, mostly after child bearing years. I remember people in radiation suits with Geiger counters pulling the milk off of grocery store shelves! This is NOTHING! Do not buy the bullshit.

can we move this to political? this thread is BS.

Not a fan of the current gov but also don't believe Chernobyle had a worthwhile effect, let alone the considerably less extreme meltdown we currently face. I'm pretty sure Hiroshima and Nagasaki had a more extreme effect.. that went unnoticed for the U.S.. Tired of the nuclear fear mongering. We have bigger issues that get less attention.
