Godwins Law: The claim that ignoramuses use to try and justify shutting down an argument when calling someone a troll has not worked. Invariably they use it incorrectly, proving they don't even know what godwins law is. (Goodwins law is "any usenet discussion that goes on long enough will eventualyl contain a reference to hitler or the nazis". Godwin, notably, did not take the holocaust revisionism use of the law as is popular now, to claim that "Any comparison to the nazis is invalid"... because he recognizes that such comparisons are stupid. Yet most people who reference godwins law use it in this meaning. Gunsnet: The absolute worst gun forum on the net, second place for worst is "the high road" where no disagreement with christian republican thought is tolerated, ever. Yeah, I've been around, and by the way, I spent a couple years in college studying the mechanism and cultural situation that allowed the nazis to come to power. When I reference these studies online, invariably some idiot who knows nothing about the nazi era, invokes what he thinks is godwins law. Having studied the nazis in depth in college is not necessary--- but being a closed minded idiot is just sad. There, that's my rant. Oh, and another thing-- military people who think that only military people have a right to comment on the military, are idiots. Its like saying that only hte president should be allowed to vote for president. The reality is, in this country ,we can all read the constitution, and we all have a right to comment on all aspects of our government, especially ones that our founding fathers didn't intend-- like a standing military. (And why is it that so many military people who post intolerant positions on forums never seem to have a working understanding of the constitution?) And why is it these generally non-thinking military types invariably resort to threats of violence to the people who criticized the military? If they are wrong, make a counter argument... don't say they don't have a right to an opinion, or that you'll beat them up (or even worse, that you'll kick them off the forum)... all of these responses make you look like someone who is not responsible enough to own a firearm. But most firearms forums are poorly run. Once I've looked around a bit I'll probably sign up and get a name. I don't yet have a saiga, though. But am I the only one who sees the hypocrisy in someone who is using an alias bitching about people posting anonymously? (Something I saw in soemone's signature in the thread wolverine linked to.) I made him that offer but so far he hasn't demonstrated much interest in Saigas or firearms for that matter. Some people prefer politics, religion, philosophy and the like. Others just like to use those topics to incite argument and dissention. Either way there are other forums on the net for that stuff. I own six Saigas, three have been converted. I have bought and sold off this form. I have learned from others and shared with others. I have offered a good bit of humor in the past so we could have a good laugh. I am politically conservative but have no problem respecting fellow member Smiley Guy despite his ACLU card carrying Liberal position. We can disagree but respect one another. However, Smiley is neither arrogant nor condescending. That makes all the difference in the world. I'm pretty easy to get along with until someone is either arrogant, abusive, manipulative or tries to cram their political or religious beliefs down my throat. I even less tolerant of those who intentionally bait others to argument and dissention using those topics and techniques. So to avoid conflict let's talk about Saigas.
