I know of a Gal that was organizing a protest of the transportation of oil equipment through scenic areas of Montana. The plan was............wait for it.................To DRIVE their Oil and Gas dependant vehicles to the Idaho border to protest the big rigs!

Fuckin Hippies.

College liberals are some of my favorite to talk to, they tend to have the "wealthy people are evil and I deserve some of their money" mindset.

Them: It isn't fair that some people are wealthy and have more money than they could ever spend while other people are homeless and starving. We should tax the wealthy more to pay for social programs.

Me: You're in college. Do you study hard and prepare for your tests?

Them: Yes, I attend every class and study.

Me: And how do you do in your classes, you get good grades?

Them: Mostly, I get A's and B's.

Me: And how about your classmates, do they all work as hard as you?

Them: No, some of them never come to class and party all the time.

Me: And how are their grades, are they getting A's and B's?

Them: No, they tend to get D's and F's.

Me: Well surely it isn't fair that you're getting A's while they're failing. How about we average your A with their F and just give everyone a C, that would be more fair right?

Them: No! I worked hard and they didn't, that wouldn't be fair at all.

And then it hits them, and the look on their face is priceless.

Why is it that college aged people (mainly women in my experience?) become such tree hugger hippies? That's a serious question. I get so aggrevated with people my age and some of their goofy ideas.

One friend of mine and I argue politics all the time. He comes up with these UNREALISTIC ideas about how we need to get rid of money all together, open the borders completely, give everyone legal citizenship, get rid of the meat industry, encourage unions, etc etc.. I can see how SOME of his ideas are progressive and it's good to challenge what we have now sometimes, but almost all of our arguements end with me looking up facts and proving him wrong.

I used to be very left-leaning when I was in college (only a few years ago). I think it has a lot to due with the fact that a lot of college students haven't yet had to really earn anything in life. Either mommy and daddy paid for it, or they have a loan that they don't have to worry about yet (at least that's what they think). Since they aren't paying taxes anyways what do they care what the tax rate is? On that same token, find the college students working 40 hours a week to pay for their schooling and see if they're on the left.

Once I left school and the gravy train from mom and dad ended, I quickly started to see where the conservatives were coming from. Once I had to pay my own rent and put the food on the table myself I found a whole new appreciation for what it means to earn something and suddenly all the "just take it from rich people" ideas didn't make much sense anymore.

There's a saying that goes something like: If you're not a liberal at 20, you don't have a heart. If you're not a conservative by 40, you don't have a brain.

I've been on both sides in a lot of aspects, and I can see kind of where it might stem from. At a younger age, idealism hasn't been erased. Younger folks tend to have a lot of compassion for just about everybody, and don't want to see people suffer when there are people who could afford to help. Conveniently, they don't usually happen to be those people in a position to help, so they preach about it to people who are. Over the years, they work their asses off to get to a better position, and they realize the value of what they've built up - so why throw it away on someone who didn't bother to work as hard?

Full disclosure, I'm 23 and a frequent fence-hopper :D Both sides suck enough to not pick one

I guess I'm pretty heartless for making this thread then. lol haha.gif

But, in all seriousness, I'm 22, and I think a lot of people in our age group buy into the whole liberal thing because they don't really understand the entire scope of it. They pick one social issue to support (like gay marriage), and then they make their liberal status "Facebook official." Personally, I couldn't give a rat's ass about gay marriage. I'm mainly concerned with gun control when it comes to politics, but that's because it directly affects me as a gun owner. Also, I think you could find the biggest gun n00b on these forums, and they'd still know more about guns than most anti-gun liberals out there. It's like a cult of misinformation.

Yes, another fine example of "Conditioning."

Even here in Montana, where I open carry at the Tattoo shop (work) once in a while a lady will come in who thinks we could all be killed because "That thing could go off at any time!"

It is because education in this country is completely artificial in construct. You spend 13 years prior to college thinking that hanging out with people a year younger or older is some amazing thing to behold (because on average everyone is +- 6 months of you) and that you just move from task to task at the sound of a bell. Then you go to college with minimal or non-existant work experience (and truthfully, the summers that I worked for an employer were just for fun money, I had no real financial responsibilities) where the educators frequently don't actually challenge you to think (most of my humanities classes in college were worthless) but just challenge you in the "mold you into my way of thinking" motif. But you're fooled into thinking that you're now smarter than all the other suckers who haven't gone to college and your profs and fellow students say such smart things regarding socialization of a lot of topics. So you become enraptured with your own brilliance and insight. However, you're probably just economically ignorant with no idea how wealth is created or how society becomes better through voluntary exchange.

"It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a 'dismal science.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance." Murray Rothbard

See that's the BIG problem. Liberals think compassion is "take from those who have, and give to those who need."

Compassion is sacrificing what YOU have, of your own FREE WILL, to give to those who YOU see in NEED.

The first is taxes and welfare, the second is charity. I'm a conservative, I give to charity. I am compassionate, at least sometimes.

Being in favor of the government taking other people's money to give to those who you, in your ignorance, think need it,

does not make you compassionate; it makes you a bitch.

You are correct sir. I'm 21, working full time and in school, and am very conservative.

There are plenty of college students working 40 hours/week to pay for school and are lefty. I have college roommates that are bitter about having to pay fo school when in many places in Europe it's covered.

I went to a REASONABLE school (Northern Illinois University - about $8,500/yr), got into a major that I knew I'd be able to find a job with (engineering), took out loans, worked hard to get a job after college, then took all of my spare money to pay off my loans over the following 5 years. Between what I paid off while I was in school and living on the cheap for 5 years I was able to pay them off completely. Then I see friends and peers my age who went to NYU for an ART degree and wonder why they can't find a high paying job and think it's unfair that they now have $200k in student loans. Unless you already have money or come from a wealthy family, it's not prudent to go to a 50k/yr school for an art degree.. you'll be in debt the rest of your life. Dont look at Uncle Sam looking for a student loan pardon.. These same friends have called me a cheap ass for not going on expensive trips w/ them or for driving a POS car. Now that I have a good job and my loans are paid off I can afford a nice car and vacations.

ok I'm done ranting haha When I hear people saying the govt should "pardon" their student loans I go a little crazy.

I have to admit, tuition covered by the government sounds really nice, but our system of student loans is why tuition in the United States is so inflated anyway. And we all know the government isn't really paying for everyone's college tuition in Europe.. Everyone else is!

You might become a conservative when you work really hard to finally make over $30,000/year, and then you realize your taxes went up enough that you made more take-home money at $27,000/year.

You might become a conservative when you realize the government mandated start-up costs/fees for a product or service you enjoy and are skilled at producing exceeds what you could make in the first two years in business.

You might become a conservative when the laws passed make you a criminal for possessing Constitutionally guaranteed items.

Here's an awfully delightful trick to get laid in college.

No real men want to attend all the social events and protests on campus but have you ever considered hunting for beaver at hippie fest?

9 out of 10 women there will be most likely as attractive as your own ass but on occasion you will find that there are a lot of really good looking hippie chicks.

Play the game! Pretend for a day you are a liberal dick wad and really give a shit about the Japs killing dolphins with a baseball bat or that your food is poisoned by Monsanto.

Be outrageous and involved with the group. You will have beaver for days.

If you get sick of the hippie beaver, continue to infiltrate the organization and stir up emotions and rivalries. Destroy from within.

I miss those days!

Happy hippy beaver hunting.

Patchouli Oil and B.O. are "No-Go's" at this station.

Good luck getting tested for "organic" V.D.'s afterward.

bd, you're forgetting that most of these so called hippies are mostly rich kids with nothing better to do. not the real hippies who smell like pot and BO.

Youth is impressionable so the older liberals target educational facilities to instill their ideals upon the next generation. It's the easiest way to curb a culture towards socialism and communism. Without ever firing a shot.

I got crabs from a hippie chick once but it was worth it considering I got more ass in those days than a toilet seat.

Never had a STD. Guess you just need to choose wisely. That hippie with the sores on her lip wont get ya anywhere!

Just busting balls storm6490.... And that new blister... hey where'd that come from? :)

You are right that if ass is the only goal, then hippies and Pro Choice rallies are fertile ground!

However the sex-addiction therapy sessions like in the book Choke by Chuck Palahniuk (same author as Fight Club) seems like the place to be if your moral compass broke long ago!

Good pick up line I heard at work once. "Hi! I noticed from over there that you were incredibly attractive. My first thought was to come over here and try and impress you by buying you a drink, but then I realized that it'd be a waste if you weren't the drinking type so instead I bought myself a shot to get up the nerve to ask you if you'd like to go home with me tonight and disappear in the morning. We don't even need to exchange numbers and dating is absolutely out of the question since I like to stay single."

Dude used the line on about ten to fifteen women, by then end of the night he walked out with two rather attractive ladys on his arm.

I let the hippie dudes keep the hippie chicks, hairy pits disgust me.

The rich kind are just looking for a reason to smoke pot IMO, when you really talk to them there usually pretty far to the right.

Not around here they arent.. I had a room mate who brought some friends (rich hippies) to stay the weekend at our big college house. They tried giving me a hard time for eating meat, subway, and using Head and Shoulders shampoo because it's not organic. I jokingly told them they shouldn't be giving shower advice ;)
