Strange shit. Im mid 30s and haven't been wasted for over 4 years now. I was in a Montana Super1Foods and got some milk juice and a 6 pack of Clausthaler NA beer. It's 0.5% alcohol by volume. Im sure I get more alcohol in my blood by cleaning my weapons with rubbing alcohol than by enjoying the taste of a near beer.

Anyhooo, checked out as usual and swiped my card and stood there like a zombie, I had the newborn and the three year old firecracker all day. I really didnt have time to chat, just glad to be out of the house even if it was for chores. The chick at the counter just stared at me. I finally had to ask if we were squared away and if i could have my receipt. She asked if I was going to give her my ID. My response was, "Why?" She started to yack about how her buddy in AA said this and that. I cut her story short and handed over an ID. For fun, I stalled the transaction a d told her that since you made me dig around for an ID, you should know this is not alcohol, the state nor fed consider this to be an alcoholic beverage and that it was tax exempt, showing the exemption lable on the bottle. I was professional and on the level with her.

My question is, could this be a company policy or an uneducated employee?

Next time I go to town, I'm bringing my 3 year old to pay for the nyquill if the same clerk is in line. smile.png

Ha, this reminds me of the time my dad had stopped drinking for awhile, and trying to be good, he was only having near beer if anything. Well one Sunday morning he was on the way to play some golf, and tried to buy a 6 pack of Busch NA. The kid behind the register refused to sell it to him because it was before noon on a Sunday. That is the law for real beer and wine, but I thought my dad was gonna snatch him over the counter after arguing it was not even beer... to no avail. He had to leave with nothing, and THEN he really did want a drink!

That's interesting about the tax free stamp. I've always wondered if you could get a ticket for driving with open container, if only having an NA beer while driving or riding along? Due to advice from my cancer doctor, and feeling like I wanted to lighten up on the alcohol intake anyway, I sometimes drink a few near beers mixed in with a few Bud Select 55's, if I have to drive anywhere. The 55's are like drinking about half a normal beer. They are 55 calories, but most people don't know they only have 2.4% alcohol by volume.

EDIT >> I guess I should clarify that I'm not talking about taking a mix of beer and near beer, then going out to drink & drive....lol. I meant I drink the low content stuff and also mix in a few NA's. if I happen to be somewhere I need to drive home from.

In Georgia ID is required to purchase alcohol or tobacco. I saw a clerk turn away a 70 yr man buying one beer because he didn.t have his ID. showing he was 21.
When I was 17, I went to Ft. Bn. I remember how they would display dd fatal crashed cars on the side of the road. They put the hammer down hard there. Unless Ga. made soms bs law about NA beer, you can legally buy without id and enjoy it in your motor vehicle.

When I was in WA State, I'd have fun with the clerks. I'd give them my CWP.

Most stores have a policy that if you look under 40, card. When I worked for the casino in Tacoma, we'd sometimes do a 100% ID check. You'd be surprised how many of the older folks were driving around on an ID card.

There WILL come a point in your life when you actually appreciate it that they ask you for your ID. At times, I think most of the clerks are either blind or stupid, maybe both, because with the gray hair in my beard and on my head, do I really look younger than 21? :)

This is what happens when you replace common sense with rigid rules. A few years ago I saw a guy at a Walmart that was clearly way over 60 get turned down for a beer purchase because he didn't have his ID with him. I know there are kids under 21 that look 30 but I have yet to see one that looked over 60. Guess a big company can't trust it's employees to use their judgement (or make change without looking at the register!) Very sad.

Seems like a product of good ol' American Lawsuits!! The state requires me to get a photocopyof the ID from Everyone who wants a tattoo, and have it w/the paperwork they must fill out......Thousands of wasted copies and time just so we can be prepared when/if someone tells their Dad that "I fell asleep and he tattooed stars on my face!".....nope, got it here in writing baby....

That's odd. How many people walk when you ask for ID to photocopy? I'm extra paranoid about my ID after some fucking Mexican stole my NAME IN CAPS SSN. Even the gun shops I deal with have to be reputable and have a secure facility and vault if I'm going to give out such personal information. The STATE has a new law for tattoo artists? Nobody up here would scan your ID for ink. That's bat shit crazy. The state needs to provide a vault for that sensitive information. I sure as hell wouldn't trust you with it.

You aren't required to copy people's ID at all. It's CYA and applies to children. This is the only thing on the books about it.

http://data.opi.mt.gov/bills/mca/45/5/45-5-623.htm

(e) tattoos or provides a body piercing on a child under the age of majority without the explicit in-person consent of the child's parent or guardian. For purposes of this subsection, "tattoo" and "body piercing" have the meaning provided in 50-48-102. Failure to adequately verify the identity of a parent or guardian is not an excuse for violation of this subsection.

When folks don't want me to copy their ID I am usually fine with it. The fine local goverment representatives that inspect us, have us make the copy as it is the only way for us to prove to them that we checked it.

I don't like it, but I even have to keep these records for 3 years.....seems a bit overkill to me for just a tattoo.

With minors, now the law says the parent must be present for the entire procedure, and if you are insured, many policies won't even allow you to tattoo anyone under 18 period.

we used to be little dick heads and threaten to call INS on this one store for smokes and beer, it worked.

I'm actually GLAD GA drops the fucking hammer on DUIs, I see way to many people act like drinking and driving isn't a big deal, and the morons that ride with the in car breather tests, and just keep blowing and paying the reset fees and all that. Having a family killed in my neighborhood by a drunk driver at an early age drove that home for me.

that being said, why don't you just brew your own NA beer, way better and will actually be pretty cheap, I make my own GF beer (well I do so it's actually good), but I still make reg beers, made NA once for a friend, was pretty easy and damn it was good. I also make my own rootbeer, sarsaparilla, and sodas using natural fermentation for bubbles, it's tasty, and cheap to keep them around for friends that like sodas or don't drink.

You should tell the inspectors to provide the law that requires you to obtain and store a customers ID. There is no law and no requirement. They are exceeding their authority. Here is the Guideline and I already posted the MCA.

I work full time, take care of the kids on my days off and maintain our home, property and investments. If I had time to brew beer, I'd be making shine! Maybe in 18-20 years I can have the time to have a real drink again. Till then it's a distraction that I can't master.

Have you tried the Clausthaler yet? It's better than most real beers and I was a pretty big beer snob when I was a HUGE drunk!

Can't say I've tried that to my knowledge hard to keep track when one of your buddies is the Reid from beer street journal lol

I used to brew on days I worked at home a lot, or when I'm watching my 5.5 month old niece I still do, it's like cooking, sometimes finding the time to bottle is tricky, brewing for me is usually a multitasking event, when I clean guns or work on them I brew, just have to wash hands a lot. When I do nothing, but brew, well I'm usually cooking for the week when I do that, I don't try to make it a time killing hobby, I work it in with whatever is happening.
