That looks like a UTG AK scope mount. It slides onto the rail on the side of the weapon, and then the lever on the bottom locks it in place. I have the same mount for my Saiga 12.

There is a gas puck in there, it is like an intermediate gas piston to cycle the bolt. A regular AK doesn't have that. So it could be that had been stuck before with dried grease and you just loosened it up. Why not just take off the gas plug and pull out the puck and see if that was it.

Cadiz gun works did an underfolder conversion on a Saiga-12 years ago. The recoil was described as "brutal" if I remember correctly. Cobra did a polymer block external and slipped it on one of his as well. I can't recall much beyond that it couldn't open/ close over magazines. I put a similar polymer external block on my 7.62x39 without changing out the rear trunnion. It has the classic underfolder wobble, but if I get tired of it I can still go back to a fixed stock or folder.

So a dream of mine has always been to have a safe room. Living in the southern portion of tornado alley, many us either have spaces that are reinforced or underground. Moved recently and finlly converted our reinforced tornado shelter into a gun safe room as well. It’s not all that big at 80 sqft, but the only way to get to it is via a secret entrance, and it also doubles as my man cave and reloading room. Still some more work to do.
