  1. Gents, My guess is there has been a run on these as the rifles have been bought up in a hurry and numerous conversions are under way. Distributors will restock after Tapco produces more G2 sets. FSE is good quality as well but I believe it lacks the sleeve that holds the trigger, spring and sear together when installing. It can be purchased for $30 at this site: http://www.rpbusa.com/ak.html (Part #AK-15) I ordered a G2 for $33 from DPH a few days ago and got it today. Wolverine
  2. KaceCoyote, Spray Paint and Seal. You can always replace the furniture with a set from Krebs for $35 if you don't like what you get. It's a thought. It doesn't change the forearm configuation but you are limited without the retainer. I experimented with one and butchered it with a sawsall trying to work around a Ultimak top rail with vented gas port. I made it work but it ain't pretty so I went to plan B. Another rail. Very costly but cool. That leaves me with just two more 7.62 rifles to experiment on. Wolverine
  3. k_dawg Where did you get your grip and was it $30? I am beginning to believe all the grips are sourced from a third world country and stamped whatever the distributor wants on it. The Chinese are famous for doing that and making low cost knockoffs on virtually everything. They will put any label on articles you want......if you pay good old USA greenbacks. They are corrupt as heck. Everybody gets aslice of the pie. graft is rampant and is a part of everyday business. I think we are the ones getting short sheeted. And yes, I like the grip very much too. It just peeves
  4. cgarperitti1, Shoot It. It will never be a collectors item worth appreciably more than current market. You can always trade or sell after use whether you convert or not. If you convert you will never find a better AK variant for this kind of money. Some guys have thought about buying these and converting them for profit. Can you imagine that? Wolverine
  5. KaceCoyote, Yes, you will either have to press off and on the Gas Block and FSB to install a metal handguard retainer or cut the retainer in half and devise a method (usually a welded nut) for bolting the two pieces back together. It looks a little more hacked but if you don't have a press and don't want to pay a gunsmith it is about your only option. If you study the threads you will find discussion and some pictures on cutting the retainer and pressing off the parts. Wolverine
  6. oak, Blackheart Inc. advises all TDI product is made in Israel. I bought one of these from Red Star Arms. It has no markings or trademark on it. The one I got from Blackheart states it was made in Israel. I called and discussed this to no avail. I will only buy from them again if they have something I can't get elsewhere. There prices are higher than Blackjack. I don't know about Blackjack' grip. Maybe it will have no trademark stamp stuff either. You could call Randy and ask before he ships. This same grip is available $10 cheaper at this site: http://www.botac
  7. Tex, I suspect no one has answered because of how your question is being perceived. If you have a saiga and want to convert it so it has a pistol grip and the Galil look you can just follow the conversion steps in this post and then purchase Tapco US made compliance parts including a Galil style handguard, folding stock, and matching M249 grip. http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/ http://www.tapco.com/product_list.asp?dept=40&last=40 If however, you are looking for some conversion to an actual Israeli Galil (minus auto fire) I am not able to help. There are othe
  8. Don't Let This Happen To You!! Carry A Sidearm At All Times.

  11. Gents, I have four of the waffles. They are cool but tight as heck. If you are looking for quick change out you might consider something a little smoother. You can get Romanian metal at Tapco and other outlets pretty reasonable. But all these are foreign. Why not buy USA made as compliance parts. Price is pretty reasonable. Follow the link: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=180371 Wolverine
  12. hugegator, Thanks for the details. You have some cool looking stuff there. Clearly you have alot of equipment, knowledge and ability. One last question, Since it is a pistol I take it if your state law requires it you would have to register it like any other handgun, right? Wolverine
  13. Malice, The Galil grip will work, like any other AK handguard, if a retainer is affixed by either pressing off and on the GB and FSB or by cuttung and bolting the retainer. In other words it will not fit on a stock Saiga without modification. For that matter neither will any other AK handguard. I hope this clears things up a little. Wolverine
  14. hugegator, Both look great. You got that done fast. Two questions. What did you use for handguard retainers, or how did you get them on and is the AMD long enough to be legal? Wolverine
  15. fhood: The importer, EAA just announced it would no longer import Saiga. We are all waiting to see who will pick up the line and what this will mean in terms of service and unit price. It is a wait and see deal. Wolverine
  16. Welcome scibaer!! If you need the link to the conversion page don't be afraid to ask. And don't be a stranger. Enjoy. Wolverine
  17. j-man, The .223 comes with one 10 rd mag right? What are you going to do for mags beyond the one with purchase? That is what do the other guys use for .223? With the 7.62 you can put in the guide, file some AK mags and your good to go. What about the .223? I am asking because I have a chance to buy one if I want to but I am concerned about mags since EAA has bailed/ Thanks, Wolverine
  18. AKfromDK85, Depends on the conversion, preference, and budget. K-var does have inexpensive synthetic buttstocks. There are other options such as ACE systems, Tapco synthetic folders, fixed aluminum skeleton, collapasing AK and AR-15 models, Bulgarian style folders. It's like being a kid in the candy store. As far a handguards, there are alot of options including keeping what you have. To install a conventional set of AK handguards you can easily replace the top gas tube with one fitted to the upper grip. the lower handguard is more tricky. You either have to press off and on t
  19. I'll let good old fashion use polish mine!! Wolverine
  20. Onepoint, I see you have a Tapco grip and a muzzle break. You have made the buttstock as one US part. Since you can't count the US grip and you didn't swap out the FCG, what are the other three US parts you used to comply with 922r? Also, did you use a US or foreign brake. If foreign you will need a fourth US part. Wolverine
  21. Nice find lollygagger. Gun broker.com wants $35 + $6 shipping for a 10 rounder. What a joke!! Baretta, Remington, Nintendo, one of them there corporate giants bought that there EAA. Don't shop just bid. Maybe they can set a record and get $50 + for one. Wow, the vultures circle quickly don't they?? Wolverine
  22. saan2112, No. The 7.62 is a beast unto itself that is used in AK 47 variants including the Saiga and a host of SKS rifles. The .223 is used in Saigas designed for the caliber as well as AR-15 and military M-16 rifles. I understand the 5.56 round is close to the .223 in size but has different pressure stats upon ignition. If you are not sure consult with someone who knows with certainty such as a gunsmith before trying it. I am sure others here will comment and help as well. Wolverine
  23. It would be nice if they included pins or a threaded set screw with every gas piston even if it cost a little more. Then you wouldn't have to chase half way around the net or find a substitute material you can trust to install a new compliance part.
  24. brian33x51, ACE folding buttstock, TDI grip and Tri-rail lower handguard, and Ultimak rail on top. I'm still mulling over putting a matching Ultimak rail on the bottom. They are expensive and weigh more I am sure. I also have a TDI folding grip for the lower rail whichever I go with. Wolverine
