  1. That's beautiful - he IGNORES your letter and sends you a FORM LETTER promising not to send you a form letter.
  2. For the amount of effort that has been put into modifying the follower, making a mag extension, gluing 2 mags together, cutting a mag in half and extending it, modifying a FAL/M14/G3 mag, and a bunch of other things that I don't know about, a 10 round mag could have been designed and built from scratch. And unlike these other ideas, it would actually work. I would imagine that when cheap and plentiful mags do show up, and they will, it will either be by this method, or by an importer just getting a batch of Russian ones.
  3. For some reason, how to do it is some kind of "secret" meaning that whoever said they did it, actually didn't, or it didn't work. Don't let this discourage you though, because I still think it is possible. What you need to do is shave down the width (easy), add some kind of ridge to the sides so that it doesn't go too far into the receiver, (easy) and add a tang to the front and back in a similar orientation to the S12 mag (challenging). To gauge where the tangs should go, I would load a few shells into it and an S12 mag and compare the angle of the top shell by stacking the mags toge
  4. Do you think it is possible to machine 1 or 2 more slots of an intermediate size into the gas plug to give you 4 gas settings instead of 2?
  5. Did you mean: "Those are the same pads " (ha ha) or that they are actually the same? (need to know before I continue)
  6. You might call CDNN and ask them how many they sold and they might also have an idea of what percentage of the total imported that they sold. I don't know this for a fact but I think that they were one of the major sellers in the U.S. and somebody there might have an idea of the numbers involved.
  7. The recoil pads that are available look like they work fine, and I don't want to be critical because it is great that there are forum members who want to help other guys out, but please look at the recoil pad that the guy wants, you know, the totally cool one that you can't get: and now look at the one that you can get: It looks like a knee pad for roller skating or something. Not cool. The point is, why is all of the cool stuff completely unavailable? I know that there are customers waiting for it.
  8. I would imagine that we scared him away with all of the ranting and raving.
  9. It looks like the Saiga mag is narrower than the stock knox feed tower, so maybe the the Saiga mag should be widened at it's base into more of a "funnel" shape, perhaps even by heat forming, because maybe the shells are getting hung up where they first start to go into the cut-off Saiga mag, i.e. at the transition between it and the Knox. Or maybe you have already looked into this possibility.
  10. I have a theory on a possible reason that the rounds don't strip. I'll post it on the end of the original thread that you've given the link to.
  11. Muzzle breaks are quite rare. They only occur when you have a weak muzzle.
  12. No, they are making a replacement feed tower for it that mimics the S12 mag. No mods to the gun. Sweet
  13. Some people have tried it but have not perfected it yet. If you do a search, you will see the threads. Pictures and everything. It can and will work, it just needs to be de-bugged. The most likely source will be Stoney Creek Armory http://stonycreekarmory.com/ Check them out - nice products. They are working on it now and have said that they will be selling them "soon". Send them a note to give them a little motivation.
  14. I might not be understanding correctly, but if the cross section of the mag is trapezoidal with the front of the mag being narrower than the back, and the front of the rounds being held tight, I think that this would cause too much friction. I understand that you want to make a straight mag instead of curved, but I'm not sure what the problem with the curved mag is in the first place, (other than more complexity to manufacture)
  15. The thing that is holding Knoxx back from making mags for this thing, is fear. This goes for any other "mainstream" company. They sell products to LE, so they don't want to get involved with anything that they consider to be a "gray area" even if it is not gray.
  16. That was just an estimate Forgot to mention that we appreciate the pictures - very valuable information (regardless of size) Thanks bro! Here's the magwell one cropped:
  17. It looks to me that they are basically the same mags but that the front tang is not there and they don't have the 3 grooves on the side but instead, the walls are thicker below that point. Also, it looks like the follower stop is eliminated so that the follower can come all the way up. The idea is to eliminate the rocking action of inserting the mag, and also allow it to drop free when you press the mag release. Perhaps also the extra travel of the follower gives it a little push to drop it out of the magwell. Mag pic, compressed, cropped and reduced in size: BTW those pictu
  18. The Russians do a great job with weapons technology, but for some reason they won't make use of jpeg compression technology.

    WOOHOO

10 mags for under $100? That is one heck of a good deal.
  20. As far as making custom parts, people who have looked into it or tried it have found that it is only cost effective in large quantities, and usually there is not enough demand to get the quantity level that makes it work. This doesn't mean that you couldn't find 10 or 20 people that mind paying extra for that "must have" part. Like the gas block that would cost $10 if it was available, would still cost you $80. If you do a search on this site you will find several people who have toyed with the idea of making mags, but the S12 mag more complicated than it looks what with the embedded met
  21. Hey, with the front sight right in front of the gas block, how do you adjust the gas thing, you know, with the "1" and "2"? Or does the swat version not have that feature? Or maybe it is there and you just have to work around the sight block.
  22. The problem with GunsAmerica is that the ads hang around indefinately. Why don't they at least put a date on them or have them expire unless you renew them? This ad is AT LEAST 2 years old.

    8rd mag +1

I think that trimming the follower will reduce reliability. If you look at an 8 round follower vs a 5 or 2 round follower, you will see that it is taller, because the longer the spring is and the more rounds you pile on top, the more rickety the whole assembly becomes. So because of failures in testing, they lengthend the follower to keep it lined up and from not binding. Also since an 8 round mag is curved, the follower can more easily get out of whack at the concave end so this is where it needs the extra length.
