  1. If I remember correctly, the reason for the wierd clothing was because they somehow believed it frieaked thier enemy out amking it harder for him to concentrate and thus hit them. a "magical armour" if you will.
  2. The differance in setting up your magwell for orlites and steel is that the guys at Red Jacket will champfer your magwell if using steel mags. The steel ones have a steel palte on teh side to give them thickness, adn this can drag when you take the mag out, so they champfer it for you - hence why he might have asked if you want to run steel or orlite. other than that, there are no other differances in the setup.
  3. I actually bought mine off the shelf of a local store for $15 a piece. I bought 7, which was every one they had left. I really like these mags, honestly. I haven't tried a steel galil mag in it yet to see how that works, I've just been running the orlies I have. I'll have to pick up a steel mag sometime and try it.
  4. 5.45 is smaller than 5.56 by a tiny margin, and it is extremely encouraged tht you do NOT try loading .233/5.56 bullets into 5,45 cases. Secondly, there are no US suppliers of either 5,45 caes or 5,45 bullets. surplus ball 5,45 is typically 53 gr., but there are loads anywhere from 50 gr to 70 gr.
  5. Orlites - more rounds and cheaper mags with more sources to buy from. It's what I chose; My .223 conversion to near AK-101 specs with folding stock, Kobra sight and Sound Suppressor ["silencer" for the non-class III people].
  6. I got some better pictures of the AK-101 today, this time with silencer and Kobra sight.
  7. the link was to centerfire systems. they should be available at all kinds of distributors within a week.
  8. That's the East German sling. They are sort of a blue-ish grey. I think you can get those here; http://www.e-gunparts.com/DisplayAd.asp?ch...rSKU=&MC=YJ
  9. I didn't have time to get any really great pictures of this one, as I was kind of in a rush adn the lighting was terrible, but I did promise to get pics up when I got this in. I didn't go all out on this on like I did on my 103, as this one was just kind of a fun build. I didn't do the dimples or the punch welds, and I've also opted for the Bulgarian slotted flash hider over the '74 style for personal preferance. I wasn't able to get a lugged gas block. I had it set up for the orlite galil magazines. I used an East German sling, and a K-var 100 series folder instead of the much more rare [and
  10. Projected retail price on 5,45 saigas I belive was $550 on the gun store shelf. add in new FSB [$70], muzzle brake [$30 on up], lower handguards retainer [$12], handguards [$70], new gas tube [$30], rear sight leaf [$20], trigger guard [$20], fire control group [$30], bullet guide [$5], stock [$30], pistol grip [$5], p-grip nut and screw [$10], a refinish, and don't fogerget 922r. Also factor in what is your time worth? You know what? I'll pay the extra $50 and and hve my gun look professional instead of like a gun that's been ahcked apart in my grage... which is what it would be. Now I su
  11. A lot of folks make thier desicion on a rifle, using thier sense of a carefully weighed balance of features that begins and ends at one thing only; price. And wether or not these are or are not a "ripoff", everyone's opinions aside, the fact remains; 5,45 SAIGAS are now in COUNTRY - why do we not have a fourm for it?
  12. I've never seen one, but I'd buy one in a minute if it were available!
  13. All opinions aside, like it or, they are here, with more variants [including the cheap RAA versions] coming soon, and since it is something the members want, lets see one.
  14. The Arsenal SGL-31 rifles have arrived, and they arrived in Izmash SAIGA boxes, and the rifles are marked "SAIGA" on the side. I know, because I have one. That being the case, it is 100% factual to say that 5,45X39 SAIGAS are HERE and IN THE COUNTRY... so it is indeed time for a forum dedicated to them... c'mon mods, lets see one!
  15. I my 5,45X39 SGL-31 came in form K-VAR... and guess what; it says SAIGA on the side and it came in a SAIGA box. Nice gun, BTW.
  16. Is it that time of month? Nah - he's always that way. Internet police and all.
  17. When it comes time to have a kid, she might decide to keep that money - the actual birth these days is EX-PEN-SIVE in the hospital... tell you need "half up front". ;-)
  18. He does seem to ahev taken it some-what personal. Create it now or in three weeks.... what's the differance? why wait?
  19. Rifle is done and they are putting the finish on now, hopefully will ship out this week, and willr eceive it either end of this week, or begining of next, depending upon shipping time. I'm excited!
  20. If I'm not mistaken, Didn't the Bulgarian military move to a 5,56X45 AK in order to join NATO?
  21. I wasn't sure if it was worth doing or not. I'd considered it briefly, but I wasn't sure of cost and wether I'd have to refin it again afterwards or not.
