  1. I got a call from my builder - he's putting my build into effect today [after a several month wait]. I've been looking forward to this one. This one will be a fairly close AK-101 clone. K-var poly 100 series folding stock, AK-74 front sight base and flash hider, Black K-VAR furniture. I went with the Orlite Galil mags - they were cheper than the K-VAR ones, and honestly I think they look cooler. I though about going the converted AK-74 mag route, but I ahve so many AK-74 mags I was afraid I'd get them messed up. So this won't be a Museum replica - mags wrong, no dimples, and not bothering with
  2. Excellant work. Thought about having the RUssian selector marks engraved and andding the false auto stop? Or having the importer info moved to teh bottom by an SOT?
  3. I was thinking the exact same thing. These work better than I'd thought possible.
  4. wow, and I thought I was just offering some information on how it could be done closer since some asked how it could have been done closer... never saif he had to do it, or that there was anything remotely wrong with hsi rifle either. Some people are certainly touchy. Incidentilly, I inquired about adding a "fake pin" and was STRONGLY advised against it.
  5. Nice looking gun. but he is correct its not a muesum replica. There's quite a few small details missing if you really want to go that far. Functionally, there would be no difference between his gun a mueseum replica other than looks, so for most people who aren't heavy collectors, there is simply no point in it. But, if you're interested in what makes a collectors gun, I can point out some of the differances. First and foremost, punch welds on the FSB and gas block. The proper selector stop, proper engraving, and auto stop. An actual Russian trunion with Russian folding s
  6. Your other option is to replace the existing front sight base with an AK-74 front sihgt base which gives you 24mm threading. Also, they make AR style birdcage suppressors in 14 in 1 left hand threading.
  7. why not just replace it with an AK-74 tyle FSB? This can be done with a hammer and a punch. Then it's threaded AND ahs a bayo lug. AND its easier.
  8. Do it... you know you want to!
  9. The setting all the way to the rear is NOT "point blank"... it is in fact "Battle sight". If you were going into combat with an ak you wouldn;t want to have to stop and adjust your sight every time you picked a new target. So the battle sight setting is a calculated number that takes into account the ballistic curve of the round. In the case of 7.62X39, the number is 250 meters. with this setting, an aimed shot at a soar plexis will yield a point of impact somewhere betwee the belley button and the top of the breast bone at any distance from 15 meters to 350 meters.
  10. Izmash mag, early stlye. Teh later ones look more like a longer version fo the SAIGA mags, actually, but I couldn't find one of those. I've also got some steel Izhevsk marked mags around here as well. I've actualyl shown this picture a couple of times... but have I shown you my suppressed AKS-74?
  11. If you think that's good, you should try a real AK-103 brake... or better yet, a sound suppression device - that will REALLY cut the flash, jump, and bang!
  12. That rocks! onyl thing I dont like about tennesse is that thier CCW is both expensive, adn it ameks you register each gun you carry. Other than that, it's a great place.
  13. if you do a front end conversion then standard akm furniture will work. I've got a couple sets of beautiful akm laminte furniture I haven't found a home for yet.
  14. Actually, I got it from Jim Fuller from Rifle Dynamics. I don't think he's got anymore though. That was fairly easy to find, as jim had it. Belive it or not, finding a correct Russian gas tube and front sight base were much harder.
  15. So what's wrong with the factory AK-74 FSB? I kind of like it. Here's mine; I used a real Russian IZMASH AK-100 rear trunion and folding stock, russian sling, Russian AK-103 mag, Russian gas tube, Russian AK-74 front sight base, K-VAR handguards and pistol grip, K-VAR 7.62 AK-103 brake, Tapco G2 Fire Control Group, Russian Pistol Grip Reinforcement plate, Russian rear sight leaf, Selector markings engraved. Punch welds instaleld on Gas block and front sight base. Refinished in KG Gunkote. Weapon accepts bayonets and sound supression devices. Enjoy!
  16. The factory finsih isn't real strong, so I wouldn't use anythign super harsh on the outside.
  17. SPF to "kajvid" Standard factory mag that came iwth my gun, unfired. I'm converting mine to take Orlite Galil mags, so I don't need it. Will sell it for $20 SHIPPED CONUS!
  18. The series of books that Iw rite are called the "red soldier" series. The most recent book I wrote, "snow and steel" just came out.
  19. OK right handers.... hold that weapon aginst your chest and throw yourself on your belly.... that's why military AK's don't have this.
  20. Well, without reading all that stuff, my understanding is; Our money is a promisary note darwn on a rivate bank that is owned by european bankers. It's wrth a value amount because they say it is - no more, no less. The silver and gold standard disappeared years ago from the states.
  21. There's nothing 'ballistic' about it. The blade doesn't detach or fly or anything else. It injects a large dose of compressed c02 into the target almost instantaneously. I understand that. However, for example, in some parts of NYC, A ballistic knife is identified as "any knife that is intended to cause harm or bodily injury to another through an assisted means". Now, gereally, they mean that as the srping which assists it - by a DA could make just about ANY knife a ballistic knife that way. SO in that regard I say again - check your local laws just to be sure. If
