  2. It's nonsense - an urban legend. Check the NRA website to verify that it's garbage. But if it galvanizes you to buy the S12 I have up on Gunbroker right now, you may be able to assuage your fears AND get a really fine weapon. I won't say which one, cause I can't. You'll have to guess. You can't go wrong WS
  3. Great! This means anytime someone decides to lob a nuclear missile at the Kremlin, the system is pointed back at us. This means we not only need to defend western Europe and our allies in the east, but Mother Russia as well. What a strange world we have come to live in. WS
  4. Bob Thanks on both parts. I'm guessing that during the mounting of the new stock and everything after the shepards crook was installed it got shaken loose. Thanks again Eric In my experience, there isn't enough clearance below the trigger group axis pin for the shepherds hook provided with the Tromix FCG. I had to reduce the diameter of that end of the wire in order for it to fit properly. After doing so, it slipped in and worked fine. If you are having similar problems, chances are it is the diameter of the wire itself, and not your dexterity or perceived lack thereof.
  5. Have had a similar problem with my Galil 5.56. Only happens with resin coated steel casings - Wolf. Apparently the resin on the shells leaves behind a residue which builds up in the chamber, eventually causing a shell to lodge so firmly that it has to be beaten out from the barrel side with a cleaning rod. Sounds like your problem may have been of a different nature, but if you are using resin coated steel casings, I would be on the lookout for it anyhow. WS
  6. Looks like an ejected Galil .223 or 5.56 casing. I always figured the Israelis did this to keep the spent shells from being collected, and reloaded by the enemy. Didn't expect to see it on a Russian gun. WS
  7. Agree on the Tac light. As long as it's mounted straight, fire at the center of the beam - you aren't going to miss. WS
  8. Might as well keep them in your pocket. The S12 is the original "point and shoot" device. WS
  9. I know this topic is old, but it continues to surprise me how little is known about the gas system. IF you are not getting enough gas to drive the piston with light loads, you need to have the gas system tuned up. Essentially the gas block needs to be removed, the vents need to be enlarged, additional venting may be necessary, and the port from the barrel to the gas exchange chamber needs to be enlarged and fitted to the port arrangement. The plug should also be checked to see that it is allowing gas to be vented into the system. I won't go into this in detail, but it is essential (and NO
  10. Sounds like you aren't getting enough gas through your system. Three ports is no guarantee that you have sufficient gas to drive the puck (gas piston). Also, the pattern of the scratches on your bolt carrier rails indicates that the carrier may be hanging on, or impeded by your hammer. All of the US FCG's I have seen have the hammer sitting 1/8" - 3/16" higher in the receiver than the stock Russsian FCG. Get in touch with Cobra or Cadiz about getting your gun properly tuned up for post conversion use. WS
  11. lol... I loaned two of my S12's to a LEO friend. He took them to a police only range to shoot them with his Captain. He said everyone wanted to shoot them, and had a great time putting several hundred rounds through them. Anyway, he came back with a smile on his face, and wants to go shooting with them again. No surprises there;) WS
  12. So, (taking this to the next logical step), how come our current President can't seem to pronounce the word "Taliban?" It's always "Tally-ban" when he tries to pronounce it. Lord knows he's probably close to the truth there with them sticking their Tally-ban-wackers into each other (and the nearest submissive camel thinking of their hideous wives in a tent somewhere back home) in some fucked-up hidden cave in the mountains of Afghanistan. And what the fuck is this new "adversment" shit used by the Yuppies now? It's been pronounces "AD-VER-TISE-MENT" for as long as I can remember.
  13. From a mechanical perspective, hinging the dust cover wouldn't be a big deal. The gas tube set up looks more or less like a standard AK with a removable tube. One solution may be to mod the gas block and tube so that the setup is more like a Galil. As far as the absent gas adjustment on the Russian military model, my guess is that they just don't use low brass in those guns, so why complicate things with a manual gas adjustment. Disclaimer: Don't try any of this stuff at home. WS
  14. raftman:> They were F-5's not F-15's. Iran flys F-5's and F-14's as well as some MIG 29's and assorted French legacy fighters. Waffen:> As for the Pilots, both ejected and are OK. I suspect that Israel will still not attack unless similar accidents occur with Iran's S-300 systems. Those systems can target lots of F-16's/F-15's simultaneously, which means Netanyahu is unlikely to commit as Israel fields no stealth fighters or bombers. Respectfully disagree. I don't care how many AA installations the Iranians have. If Israel believes the Iranians intend to target it with nuclear
  15. Not if Mossad had a pilot in the F15. Any word whether or not the fighter pilot ejected, and was subsequently whisked away by an Israeli chopper? lol... WS
  16. Let me get this straight, this man was found hung by the neck with the word FED carved in his chest and the FBI has not yet ruled out Suicide or natural causes? "Worst case of suicide I ever seen" - Anonymous FBI Spokesman, Paint Lick Field Office WS
  17. I regret the loss of this apparently naive and well meaning man. Going out and knocking on doors unannounced in rural Appalachia can get you an unexpected cup of coffee and country hospitality, or you may find yourself looking down the barrel(s) of a 12 gauge shotgun. Expect the latter if you aren't known, and you aren't kin. The census bureau would be well advised to familiarize themselves with local cultural etiquette, before appearing at someones door unbidden. Always have the neighbor call to let the next interview know you are on your way, so he has time to cover up the mason jar
  18. Schmled:> I think they lack about 6 votes in the house and 3 votes in the senate to pass anything right now. But you are correct, even the mention of gun control will cause prices to raise.... Prices seem to also raise when the NRA has membership drives... I wonder why??? Perhaps it is that interest in NRA membership peaks when people feel their rights are most at risk. From a marketing perspective, this is most likely the absolute best time for a membership drive. It is chilling to think that we live in a time when rights our forefathers fought and died for, for which
  19. Then couldn't you argue your definition of a liberal as someone who wants to take away your rights is also black & white thinking? The most committed conservative I know is one that I work with, she is the kind of person who will hold a grudge against someone indefinitely if they ever say so much as one positive thing about President Obama, but she is also the most anti-gun person that I know; she believes in a complete and utter ban whether for collecting, sport/hunting, self-defense, or any other purpose. In contrast, I consider myself a moderate with some left-leaning tendencies yet I
  20. I know the Russians have been over here harassing American manufacturers over American made AK's, but I am not aware that they have ever taken legal action here to assert their alleged rights in the design. I am not an attorney, but I suspect that under US law they may not have standing to do so. Doubtful that Izhmash will go away as an arms manufacturer, but if they do, I doubt there would be any real barriers to producing a US made AK 12 gauge. Just my two cents. WS
  21. Theoretically, you should be able to do a pistol grip conversion and retain the monte carlo stock. You may have to remove the stock and re install it, but that's not a big deal. The biggest issue I see is that you will need an American parts count high enough to qualify as 922® compliant. The FCG is three, the US made pistol grip is one. Replacing the Russian stock with a US made stock is one more, as is replacing the US made forend. You may need other US components - best to check for a list of required parts If you are not planning on going 922® compliant, you will want to leave the rifl
  22. Looks like we agree on this one, warthog. I find that as long as the gas system is right, the OEM puck is perfect. I'm beginning to think that the gas system in general needs to be better understood. Agreed! Me too, are you local to Georgia? I sent a PM to everyone that identified their location as GA, Georgia, or Atlanta. If I missed someone I am sorry! All are welcome that what to make the drive. I am hoping to get a shoot sit up out of this! Actually, I'm way over here in the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico), but Saiga nuts are few and far between out here, and it sounds like
  23. Aside from the offense nature of the first half of that statement the second half shows a server lack of knowledge concerning the history of Jews in Russia. Try googling "pogrom" that should at least get you started. Further the red army killed its fair share of Jews. Yeah it was kind of a racist/asshat comment. So from what I gathered the Molot factory (Izhmash owned) is shut down completely and their primary factory in Izhevsk is only producing 2 days a week. Since Russia bailed out other arms makers (like Sukhoi)I have no doubt they will never allow Izhmash to end production
  24. A really fine 1911 .45 auto, a well built tactical S12, a Mauser 8mm (the first gun my dad taught me to shoot with), 20,000 rounds of ammo for each, free passage to the family compound deep in Kentucky hill country, a 400 hp 4WD pickup (with plenty of fuel) a John Deer Gator, and a true country girl who looks like Anne Hathaway, cooks like Paula Deen, and shoots like Annie Oakley. And if you come callin' you better be kin... WS
