  1. Getting the BHO spring in place is the biggest PITA, but I found you don't necessarily need to remove it. You need to remove the hammer and spring (zip tie the spring hooks behind the head of the hammer) by tapping out the pin they're on. The BHO is also attached to the same pin. Then just use a hook tool to carefully lift the spring arm off the BHO and set it down on the receiver. The BHO should come right out at this point. Install the safety and reverse the instructions.

  3. I gotta admit, that chainsaw bayonet is pretty sexy. I can't think of a better zombie weapon. Bruce Campbell would be proud.
  4. Holy shit! As far as I can tell you are exactly correct. I was under the impression that the 10-round restriction was across all gun platforms, but I stand corrected. It would appear that us CA residents can receive and use 20-round drums if we want. We just need to find a vendor willing to ship it to us now.
  5. I haven't done any business with Ironwood, but their website seems pretty complete. Check it out if you have questions about what they do.
  6. I might end up going with Ironwood. I'm getting tired of waiting for rusmilitary.com to get them back in stock. I pre-ordered them 6 months ago and have talked to Oleg several times but he doesn't seem sure he'll get some in anytime soon. I don't want to pick up the handguard from carolina shooters supply because I want a matched set. Anyway, thanks for the replies guys. I'm holding out until the end of this month at which time I'll probably just break down and order a set from ironwood.
  7. I'm looking for the full set of buttstock, pistol grip and handguard. They must be for a saiga-12. It is an for an aesthetic, so I reserve the right to be picky (they should match and be in good shape). If you have a set, PM me with the price that would make you consider selling. For reference:
  8. I just saw this story and was blown away by the ridiculousness of it all. If you live there, you may already know that the laws are draconian. If you don't, prepare to have your mind blown. http://reason.com/archives/2010/11/15/brian-aitkens-mistake
  9. I got a pre-converted saiga from atlantic firearms. I couldn't be happier with it. Knowing that it will just work, and work well, right out of the box is great. You can get straight to shooting shit! I would definitely recommend getting one pre-converted from a reputable dealer, there are many you can find right here. The extra cost is not that much and is well worth it.
  10. I have the Kreb's and like them. They may not be for everyone though. It's hard to adjust for windage. They are very low profile though and I like the look of the elevated front sight. It's very AK-like.
  11. The Kreb's front sight is adjustable. It does look like he's using the Kreb's front with the stock rear.
  12. Bridis, First of all thanks for giving us this detailed early analysis of the Auto plug. The whole community is hungry for information. I have some questions about your conclusions. Your data doesn't seem to support this. It seemed like the auto plug only really had trouble on the lowest of low brass. Remington Value Pack and Winchester Universal had the overwhelming majority of the FTEs: 1/1 with the factory plug, 2/3 with the gunfixer, and 5/6 with the auto plug. Removing them from the equation yields no FTEs with the factory plug and just 1 with gunfixer and auto. Then
  13. I got my S-12 from Atlantic Firearms pre-converted. The conversion was done by Red Jacket Firearms. I've been nothing but happy with it. It has worked flawlessly since I got it. And the price wasn't bad either (~900). I'm sure other business members will make you just as happy, just my $0.02.
  14. Anyone? I know there are members here with some lovely wood. What are your thoughts on it? How does it feel when you finally get your hands around some russian wood?
  15. It looks really nice but I'm on the fence about wood furniture. How does the experience compare? Is it heavier? Does it kick harder? How does it feel?

The dust cover tends to move around some on my Saiga. It seems like with the rear sight attached to it, it would tend to lose zero. Do you find that with Slug-O?
  17. Whenever I have ammo penetration questions, I consult the Box o' Truth. For this case you may be interested in (http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot3.htm) but there's lots of good info there. Birdshot is a bad choice for stopping people. It would make an ugly shallow wound, but wouldn't be likely to kill a man.
  18. I'm no expert, but I thought you couldn't have a pistol grip in NY. Skeleton stocks are OK though. Can anyone confirm?
  19. I've got the standard Tapco AK fixed stock (http://www.tapco.com/products/ak_modern/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=35). It's functional but I do wish it were longer. Being in California, my stock options are somewhat limited. The UTG recoil pad makes replacing the stock a much lower priority though.
  20. I have one of those too and it makes a huge difference when shooting slugs. The first time I took my lead slinger out to the range shooting slugs, that metal plate on the butt hamburgerized my shoulder. As an added bonus it makes the stock an extra inch longer which is great for those of us with long arms. My only complaint is that it is easy to knock off by accident. I've considered attaching it permanently but I still have reservations.
  21. This is not technically an install question, but I don't feel bad hijacking my own thread. I took my Saiga to the range to sight it in with some slugs. I got the left-right adjustment pretty tight but it's shooting way high. We're talking 5"-6" at 25-yards. It looks like the front sight can be adjusted but it didn't come with a tool for that. What do you use to adjust the elevation of the front sight?
  22. I'm happy to report that I managed to get the rear sight in place at last. I beat on the stock sight for a while before I gave up and went the hack saw route. It was a little unnerving, but it worked. The Kreb's rear sight went in much easier than the stock sight came out. It's probably way off of zero, but the sight picture is beautiful. For now I've sharpie'd the bare metal spot where the old front sight post used to be but I don't love it. I've read about people using barbecue paint to touch up the finish. Any specific suggestions? Thanks to everyone that chimed in here. Future gen
  23. That's very interesting. I was going the other direction and having very little success. I'll give it a try the other direction. More questions. The stock front sight seems to obstruct the view of the kreb's. I assume I'll have to grind it down. Is that right? What do you use to touch up the finish where it was? How did you calibrate the sights once everything was installed? Did you just bring a punch to the range and hammer away as needed? Once it's sighted in, did you lock-tite the front sight?
